NY # 56.... I agree that any time folks can show appreciation for one another is a good thing. I think holidays many times get commercialized and when folks can do things for each other on a personal level it does matter. Many times more than anything that money can buy.

Which, when I read your menu it made me think that all sounded good.. Making a meal for someone [or many someones] is a way to express love and caring. Even if it's just cracking open a couple cans of weenie beanie and some nachoes.... And, that could never be bad, unless your arteries harden from the grease. But, at least it's not a scam.

Well if you do that, you may gain weight, then have to go on a diet to get the Holiday 7 lbs off. Then you will be so hungry, you feel like you could bite your own arm off. (me right now)

So if you had no one special to cook for you, it's a blessing, you stayed slim(mer)

PS- if you want you can look at my home cooked meal collage pic in my profile, I removed the pics of the key lime pie & focaccia bread

When I see people scammed on Dr. Phil that way, in the end, the scammed people are mostly upset about loss of love than the money they were scammed out of, because they sent money.

I normally don't watch much television but did happen to catch part of a recent episode on Dr Phil and it was about this woman who believed she was married to Tyler Perry. I think she was scammed out of a lot of money. Communication was all by text and email I believe. The interesting part was Dr Phil's staff was able to show many text messages were taken directly from a Hallmark card. So here this woman thought she was getting a sincere one a kind text message but it was word for word coming from a card. I think Dr Phil mentioned there is a website scammers use to get this kind of material to use to woo women. There was a part two episode which I did not see so not sure how it turned out, if the woman finally realized she was not married to Tyler Perry? The woman never met the person face to face, did some type of marriage ceremony by phone or text, don't recall...?

Texas, I know all about you sweet talking southerners☺ In the north for where I've lived, it's too familiar to say things like sweety, honey, dear to someone you just met. The Nigerian scammers love to say "my love".

Driving, I missed that show, but I know what you're talking about. These people that get scammed are living in a fantasy world. My friend's sister was scammed. It was very obvious, but not to her. Her sister is easily led, is gullible and a little nuts.

Dr. Phil has done that with other scammers where he finds what they write is taken off the internet. I found a guy that contacted me was mentioned on a dating site about losers. My gf's sister's scammer's pic was on a scammer site with him using various names, but her sister didn't care. She had already sent him money.

You can call me either one or both. I'm not one of those crotchety and joyless f*cks who gets bent out of shape over it.

I'm not sure if any of the more senior posters around here remember this, but, probably around 2006 or 07 this forum had its very own scammer. This man was quite a frequent poster here, seemed like a normal ,nice quy. Until it hit the Canadian news, he was catfishing women on this site for money.
If anyone is really interested, I will do some research and see if can find the info again.

I do recall his REAL name.

Myself & quite a few other women from the forums emailed & even spoke on the phone w/ him.

He never asked ME for dime, but no man ever did.

Why?

I was pretty upfront about how I roll. (no, not a gold digger, but no meal ticket either)

Now I do not mean to "victim blame" not at all, his #1 victim from POF was a very sweet, kind lady.

But she gave him too much trust.

I wouldn't hand over ANYTHING I had to anyone but my own children.

We all must own our behavior, period.

PS- been binge watching 90 Day Fiance on Roku LoL

Yes, I think I private messaged with him a few times as well. He was never anything but pleasant. I do agree, she was way to sweet and kind. The level of naivety with some people around here totally astounds me. This place isn't for the faint of heart. Some people shouldn't be allowed on dating sites EVER, for their own well being.

When I "dated" I told men I had way less than I really did, to weed out the "man-whores"!

"Neither a borrower nor a lender be; For loan oft loses both itself and friend."

This is a famous phrase said by Polonius in Act-I, Scene-III of William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet.

Great advice and I agree with you regarding the American guys that do it.

I had an exchange with a guy that kept saying "my friend and then sweetness🙄". When I let him know just to call me by my first name, he messed up my name. Exactly, no class. I cut all correspondence. #blocked

I remember the Iceman.
We messaged a few times, but only in regards to the Red Sox.

I'd like to think I wouldn't fall for a scam of that proportion, I'm
not one to invite people into my life at all. I keep most people at
arms length....but who knows? We can all be vulnerable and have
moments without clarity.

Iceman was the perfect scammer I would say.
He was really good looking and smooth talking.
And those are the people I trust the least...hahahahaha!

He was not smooth talking, he was and still is a complete loon and many of us pointed that out while his defenders would stand behind him and claim he was a saint.

He displayed the classic signs of a scammer from day one.

I've been here since 2005.
I was here when he and Monica were talking.
When they were both members of the forums.
He was a smooth talker.
Clearly, after Monica came in and told us what
had happened, it became obvious he was a scammer.

I remember her coming in here and calling him out
in the forums.

So yeah.
Hindsight and all.
He was smooth and he managed to scam a few of our
own.

He only displayed the classic signs AFTER he was outed in the forums.

^^^It's that time of year I guess.
Everything everywhere is slow and boring.
I'm realizing I was 53 when I started babbling here.
Gads.

In order to maintain the highest quality forums you are restricted to having no more then 2 of the last 10 posts on a thread.
Since 2 of the last 10 posts are yours you can not post to this thread, unless of course you're interesting and vivacious.

Nope, none of it was hindsight.

I called him out before got caught.

Most of the old threads have been deleted, but it was clear to me and some others that he displayed the classic signs of a scammer.

So maybe for some it was hindsight, but for me it was pretty clear.

He like some others here, where very quick to tell you about how great they are always went out of his way to try and tell you how great of a person he was and when you would push them on anything they go full ballistic.

Much like another scammer that may still be around and his fake go-fund me pages.
