In this particular case...I have just simply never been curious about the author. But once the "racist" implications arose...it became a cost/benefit thing for me. No benefits. I prefer to read those books without any preconceived ideas or biases. Just simply enjoy them for what they always were for me...fun, silly and whimsical stories. Occasionally, I will read a biography if I am particularly curious about the author's or artist's life. Otherwise, I just enjoy their works of art just as presented.

The Office of the First Lady announced on Sept. 6 that in honor of National Read a Book day, Melania Trump would send Dr. Seuss books to schools across the country that had been recognized for educational excellence. One school in each state received a package of 10 books. Liz Phipps Soeiro's school was the Massachusetts recipient, and she wasn't satisfied.

"School libraries around the country are being shuttered," Soeiro, a school librarian in Cambridge, wrote on the Horn Book's Family Reading blog. "Are those kids any less deserving of books simply because of circumstances beyond their control? Why not go out of your way to gift books to underfunded and underprivileged communities that continue to be marginalized and maligned by policies put in place by Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos?"

But Soeiro also criticized the First Lady's choice of literature, calling Dr. Seuss "a bit of a cliche" and arguing that the late author's illustrations are "steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and harmful stereotypes." She did, however, suggest a list of 10 books that she hoped would illuminate the impact she said the Trump Administration's policies were having on certain children.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next piece of garbage Trump blurts out is saying people who are confined to wheelchairs shouldn't be allowed at sporting events, since they aren't able to stand during the playing of the anthem. He would probably apply that rule to war veterans too, and justify it by saying it's their own fault if they got injured during combat.

It truly is amazing to me how stupid so many Trump supporters are....Trump claims that kneeling is disrespecting the flag although that has absolutely nothing to do with why the protestors are kneeling, but his non critically thinking dumbo supporters buy into it and creates a huge national debate. I always knew those on the Right were not the brightest...but I had no idea so many of them were so dumb.... and my working class friends, the ones most hurt by Trump's policies are his strongest supporters... go figure. I suppose its not surprising the non critically thinking are taken in by the Grifter in Chief.

Chump has yet to label old angry white men who use their guns to be "losers". If there's a link to the Clive Bundy/Oregon park bunch, the NRA will tell us its "too soon" to "politicize" an act of "domestic terrorism". But if we find the old man went to a mosque once to use the bathroom, the "politicizing" will begin in earnest. Of course, if the old white man went to Christian Church every Sunday, Chump will be certain to keep things balanced and twit about "radical Christian terrorists".

So far at least, he hasn't tried to blame the mayor of Vegas for what happened. I think he's too busy, trying to figure out how to talk as much about gun control as he does about football players. b/c obviously they are equal in importance to the average country music concertgoer at this moment.

^^^ ya, no mention ever made about the fact that one individual seems to have a need for 10 guns (at least 10 that he brought with him), and that the carnage was caused by at least one that was capable of extreme rapid fire - certainly not a hunting rifle. On that topic, we will next be besieged with asinine comparisons such as "vehicles kill too so we should get rid of all vehicles - so do knives so lets get rid of those too." Then there will also be the usual cry that people want to to get rid of the 2nd Amendment, rather than looking at ways to have better and more effective gun control.
