Yeah I get all that vlad ...maybe if Jim callaghan or Michael foot got in, there would have been bailouts whether it would have worked out, I have my doubts. Certainly those communities would have been conserved but probably only with subsidy. And then there were globalist/American rules . Did she have the latitude to act . Her priority job was to win and she had to make enough people happy in a set time.

The British electorate returned her government time and time again. We still have it. This is thatcherism. More money every year spent on the NHS. This started under her. The only real cuts in the nhs ever were under Jim callaghan's labour when the Americans or the IMF came in on our national bankruptcy and took control of our economic policy.

This is not a criticism of his government because he and Healey made a decent fist of that period. Handing Thatcher a sound economy. Unlike Heath and his dash for growth.

Post second world war the economic structure of the world changed because of bretton woods. Implicit in America selecting the dollar as the world's reserve currency was that as global trade became more competitive post ww2, America had to run indefinite trade deficits because the world needed dollars. This is simply America printing paper and Germany sending her a luxury BMW. Yeah, German workers, their resources and commodities in a swap for American paper or electronic digits that costs virtually nothing.

It's sounds a great deal for America but as Robert Triffin and John Maynard Keynes pointed out this would bring about America's bankruptcy. It's not Trump's fault it was a decision made in 1944. But the Trumps, Thatchers and callaghans get the blame because we really don't want to do the thinking.

Again the economy went into recession under Thatcher . She blamed Callaghan. They cast her as a villian. All nonsense . It was the dollar. And that decision in 1944. Paul Volker a Carter appointment went to Switzerland and was told by West German central bankers to look after the dollar. The dollar lost 50% of Its value between 1978 and 81 ...Of course America's trading partners lost 50% on their savings in treasuries. Volker went back to America and hiked the fed funds rate to 20%..(it's 1.75 at the moment) to save the dollar system . Cue deep recession in not only America but little old us. And the specials singing ghost town.Confidence in the dollar restored gold tanked and America restored the global Credit fuel. Until withdrawing it again in the late eighties throwing people out of work and restoring it just in time to make slick willy look good. This is the big picture.National politicians have little leeway and are hemmed in by the macro or big picture of what really drives economic life.

So we now don't do heavy industry. What we do is inflate our house prices and our pension system so only the existing rich can afford them. But hey this props up the nhs. We have mass migration because this is stimulant for a time. We also get sent stuff from the east for next to nothing often from poor People who could never afford the lifestyle we mostly currently all have. Why do they prop our workshy economy up. Why don't they consume their own produce..

Well it's 1944 Bretton woods and the dollar, backed by gold .The world attatched their currencies to the dollar and away we went. Until America defaulted officially on its gold obligations in 1971. They had been cheating the world for years. The formation in 1960 of the London gold pool was a default. All roads lead to gold . Kissinger propped it up with the petrodollar deal backed up with violence. And then Volker. How this mess has endured is a wonder to me. Seems to me I was a bit unfair towards Ted whose own stint as globalist pm was wrecked by the dollar.

See Russia put into a recession by the dollar in 2015 and just getting off their knees are being smacked down again with very tall stories and sanctions . I hope they sell treasuries and buy gold again. Putin is someone worth listening to. Theresa is not .

China for ultimate good or ill wants to gain the ability to price their oil in renminbi yuan. This nuclear power is going to break free of the dollar scam one way or another . They are now the biggest oil importer in the world this gives them immense pricing power. If the world moves away from the dollar , America's bankruptcy will be revealed and our own. Suddenly U.S. interest rates will be shooting up and the world will be selling the dollar. Our perception of the world will take a knock. We may have to go back to work to eat. Of course other scenarios are available .None good.

Vlad when Thatcher, finally went against the neo liberalism / globalism agenda in her rejection of the European superstate. They defenestrated her. Of course she was politically weakened by the poll tax which was a fiasco and Britain had by then entered a recession which was exacerbated by her acquiescence to howe and major over the ERM. That policy cost us our entire reserves and put a million out of work. She was part cypher and let's face a curate's egg. The left right paradigm is phoney. It's a control divide and rule mechanism . The middle ..the same.. all high bollocks

I'm rather surprised no one has mentioned missiles over Syria. Despite my feelings about Assad and Putin, I just can't believe this is taking us anywhere.

I was just talking about this very question the other day..........

"Curious Questions: Why do the British drive on the left?

Here in Britain we like to think we are a cut above the rest, and we revel in those differences that mark out the way we do things from those of our continental brethren.

Take driving. Why do we in Britain drive on the left when so many other countries favour the right?

In the good old days, there were only two ways of getting around: by Shank’s pony or on horseback. If you were a knight and were on horseback (and right-handed) you would want to ensure that your sword hand was unencumbered to enable you to defend yourself against attackers.

Dismounting was also easier on the left, particularly if you had a sword in the way. This meant that horse riders naturally preferred to ride on the left hand side of the pathway, a practice that had been enshrined in legislation by 1300 by Pope Boniface VIII.

Things became a bit more complicated around the eighteenth century when wagons drawn by teams of horses were used to convey heavy loads. The driver didn’t have a seat but rode the left rear horse, leaving his right arm free to wield the whip. Because he was sitting on the left, the driver was happier if everyone passed him on the left. In other words, they adopted a preference for driving on the right-hand side.

What gave a real impetus to the driving on the right movement was the French Revolution and subsequent events. The French aristocracy had traditionally ridden on the left, forcing the peasants to travel on the right. When the sans-culottes gained the ascendancy in 1789, they made driving on the right de rigueur. Napoleon’s rampages across Europe introduced the trend of driving on the right to many of our European friends.

Naturally, in Britain we eschewed everything that smacked of foreign ways and steadfastly stuck to our guns, ploughing our furrows on the left. The practice was enshrined in legislation here in 1835, and – just as Boney had done – we introduced the custom of driving on the left to those parts of the world that had the good fortune to come under the yoke of enlightenment, otherwise known as the British Empire.

That is why some 35 per cent of the world’s population – including countries such as India, Australia, New Zealand, and some African countries – drive on the left to this day.

The Japanese, who were never British subjects, still drive on the left. This is due to their Samurai heritage. They too needed to have their sword hand free. But it wasn’t until 1872 that this unwritten custom became official, a year that coincided with the Brits helping the Japanese build their railways. It became enshrined in law in 1924.

The Americans, of course, drive on the right. Initially, when it was a British colony, the inhabitants drove on the left, but following their rebellion in 1776, they forswore all practices they associated with their colonial masters. Of course, the influx of settlers from European countries who had been subjected to the dread influence of the French also helped.

The state of Pennsylvania was the first to pass legislation that required people to drive on the right (in 1792), followed by New York (1804), and New Jersey (1813).

The answer to our original question, then, is due to knights, Napoleon, and British perversity. So now we know!

Here is hoping that I`m on the right thread...for some reason ther all seem to start different but end up on the nearly same topic so I get very confuddled...

Anyway I`m posting this on the talk about everything thread..

So, I sends out the mass event invite today 14/4/18 and gets a message about 3 hours later from a woman who tells me that I`ll be forever single and no one will ever want to meet me while ever I am associated in a hosting capacity on here..

So my question is do you think she is right or wrong??

By the way I`m not one bit bothered either way but just found the message interesting..

Interesting info, Vlad!

Wright, I don't believe that's true about hosting and not getting dates. If anything, it gives you more opportunity to meet people.

I think the thought is, how do you take out a country's leader without leaving a hole for Isis to take over, then you have people worried about civilians with missile strikes. I'm not proposing to know the answers.

Weighty, I think chappy mentioned something about this. He runs singles clubs,
I believe he had a woman with issues about his involvement in running singles
Meets.
Let’s face it, this is an issue for her to deal with. This woman probably has issues
with her men talking to anyone or socialising in anyway shape or form

Is being an organisers of meets a bit like being a bouncer at nightclubs?
We all know what bouncers get up to Bryan and Chappy :)

Hey there Roxy,

I can fully assure you that being an Event Organiser is totally nothing like been a bouncer/doorperson.

Your there to help people and give them the chance/opportunity to simply meet other single people from both that local area and the surrounding area dependant on the location chosen to run the night/day out.

Its a bit like organising a birthday party or family event but they are all strangers and on this occasion you don't actually know about any of the attendees unless of course like me you read the profiles of all the guest list to get clued up on each one.

I`m kinda now hoping that young Chapster will agree with some of what I`ve said..

Now now.... bouncers are actually event safety coordinators these days... much in the same way politicians are fiscal manipulators of self enhancement

All in a name, but in real life. at least 95% of security work is customer enhancement and interaction... by that I do no mean twattin a gobshite!
We are there to protect the vast majority and make sure they enjoy themselves.

A wee aside... worst gig I did was the outdoor bit of last night of the proms in Hyde Park. The pretentious fur coat n nae knickers mob are uncouth to say the least. Ach... I got called a jobsworth by a "lady" who started taking pics... she got one offer to delete them then I got the police involved.... he he... they factory reset her phone

Hey up Squareslice..

I really do hope that I didn't offend you by my comments on the bouncer/doorperson thing, there was never any insult intended I can assure you that and I do know that some are now titled Crowd Safety Officer or something very similar and they have one hell of a role to play and sometimes in the most challenging of conditions, I certainly could never do it, I`m just not built for it..

Anyway in other news..I actually wanted to ask if any of you had received a copy of my Event Invite in the last few days and if so what did you think of it? I try and word each one differently to as to explain in small easy to follow words why its been sent..

I didn't get an invite Bryan but I am outside your catchment area.

As an organiser I get to do all sorts of things I never expected in my wildest dreams. I once helped a friend and member whose girlfriend was stalking him and threatening to commit suicide (the police got involved that time). Trying to make blokes in particular understand the accepted limits these days in particular regarding unwanted touching. Dealing with a couple of stalkers. All sorts of other nonsense that you'd expect grown ups to be able to deal with themselves.

But that wasn't the lacivious bit you were hoping to hear. I've had a few offers and a few followers. I guess someone who wanted access to lots of females could use this position for some fun and I know a few guys who do exactly that in other groups. I'm too old to be bothered with all the jealousy and hassle that goes with that now.

Dontcha just love it when the offenderatti dafties get a good kick in the yarbles? One complaint was enough to put the local council in dhimmitude.

I wonder if anyone has been 'offended' by Rosslyn Chapel? Maybe this fantastic stone built and hand carved chapel should get destroyed?

Cannae have anything that offends the religion of peas can we? But to be fair it's usually middle class white arseholes who are so patronising they feel THEY have to get offended for muslims and speak up for them........

"CHARNWOOD Borough Council has made an apology over the controversy caused by banning a market trader because she was selling Knights Templar coffee mugs.

But a week ago, Friday, October 6, she was further told she could no longer trade at any Loughborough market, as concerns had been raised about her selling Knights Templar coffee mugs.

The mugs feature a drawing of a knight and are branded with the Latin motto which translates to: “Not to us Lord, not to us, but to Your Name give the glory.”

At the time Ms Gayle told the Echo: “The council gave me a letter at 4pm and said I’m banned.

“The complainant said they were offensive because the Knights Templar killed Muslims in the crusades 710 years ago."

I wonder what the result would have been in the national media had not got involved?

Hey up Chapster..

Event invite wise I thought or was led to believe that it went to every member of the site unless they had figured out how to disable it via mail settings, I`ve had replies to it from various parts of the UK coast to coast..

Its a bit of a dis heartener if people think hosting is done in order to gain something...trust me I simply want to help single people get together away from their homes and computers or whatever device they are using...

Hey up young Billy..

How`s tricks?

With regards my POF shirt well I prefer to think of it as Arriva Yorkshire blue due to my genuine and total lack of interest in politics.

Well its now ten to eleven here in Altofts and it looks like its going to thunder, its gone very dark and the winds picked up..

So having subjected an old lady of 92 to a load of music which she probably detested,
they dug the old dear out of bed in her Castle to push a button to set off the London Marathon.
The Beeb had Windsor on the news this morning - the Castle was deserted, and some twerp with a mic
started the time-worn patter of 'there's half an hour yet, plenty of time for visitors'
....or some such twonk. I notice they wheeled out the Coldstreams so that the old duck
wouldn't feel lonely/silly/cold/ignored (delete as appropriate).
Mo ran out of water & someone won.......job done........

This made me laugh - FB

"SHOCKING FOOTAGE SHOWS THOUSANDS OF WHITE PEOPLE CHASING GROUP OF BLACK MEN AROUND LONDON

Metropolitan Police detectives have promised an immediate investigation after footage emerged on Sunday of a group of black men being chased around London by THOUSANDS of white people.

According to sources at the scene, enquiries are now underway to see if a hate crime has been committed.

One witness said: ‘I couldn’t believe what I was seeing – those poor men!’

‘Credit where credit is due though, they just rose above it and went about their business as if nothing was wrong – nobody caught up with them throughout their ordeal.’

‘They showed huge dignity in the face of such hatred and intolerance.’

‘Some of the people chasing them were covered from head to toe in outfits, and I assume that this was a pathetic attempt to hide their identities for CCTV cameras.’

‘It’s hardly inconspicuous though is it, heading out dressed as a giant chicken to incite racial violence.’

‘We hope that thermal imaging will identify these **stards.’

Another witness said: ‘This is what Brexit Britain is all about now. It’s crazy! Kenya isn’t even in the EU.’

‘Farage and Gove have a lot to answer for.’

Unconfirmed reports from the scene have also revealed that the would-be attackers were being cheered on from the pavements of London.

One Facebook user posted: ‘They were handing out water just in case their rabid hatred was leaving them dehydrated.’

‘Surely this would make these people accessories to any offences that have been committed.’

The shocking scenes were first reported on Twitter by the user @pajoflynn, who admitted that he holds Theresa May personally responsible for the incident."

So today we have a trawler owners funeral
(I live in a fishing port)
Beautiful horse-drawn hearse
Two huge limos
Three long whistle blasts from the harbour
(mark of farewell)
and the boat crew following the cortege in seagoing gear -
glad I saw it, it was very special (& moving).
