I am just wondering, when was the last time someone on here met someone IRL? How did it happen? How did you know they were single?


A few weeks back at my gym.

A woman and I had been talking and then it progressed to spotting each other, and then the next thing you know I asked her out. (Kind of hard not to when your spotting someone and their sweating chest and crotch are all up in your eye)

Anyhow, maybe I'm just old school, but I find it easier to meet and ask out people in real life than on dating sites.

I find it easier to talk to girl I want to date in real life than to channel my feelings by way of computer keyboard.

I csn’t remember the last time. It’s very hard to talk to women here in real life in Canada - they all have their noses buried in their iPhones. Online technology has made us very lazy in our conversation skills.

Yesterday. A guy came to service my road-side assistance call and to provide a jump to my secondary vehicle. He was cute, but I can tell that he's younger. He wasn't openly flirting, but asked if he could take me to lunch sometime. He seemed harmless and he already had my number based on having the road-side assistance customer information.

I've been flirted with or asked out by service people before, so it's not a first. However, it's not always the best idea, in case the person is mentally unstable. I did meet one that was married and completely lying about his marital status, but I'm quick to figure things out before getting involved.

Anybody can be mentally unstable, not just service people, lol. That's a risk we take everytime we meet some strange person on POF. I sure wish I could meet available guys through such circumstances. A little over a week ago my kid locked my van with the engine running and I had to phone CAA, the guy that showed up was my great uncle and no, the sparks they did not a fly.

July: you're right. I've had enough crazy encounters to last me for the reest of my life. The thing I was mentioning about service people that know where we live and our personal information, whereas some guy that I meet out won't have any of that information. I only give out my first name and my google voice number, because you can't be too safe these days and I've had some really crazy experiences.

I did have a previous HVAC service guy that ended up asking me if we could exchange info. He told me he was single, never married and had a five year old daughter. After some communication over the course of two weeks, he shows up unannounced. He said he wanted to ask me out for the following evening, which was a Friday. I said fine, but told him not to show up unannounced again.

He stated that he wouldn't and left. He called me when he got home. However, Friday came and guess what he stood me up. That was the first time that I've been stood up. Initially, I hoped nothing had happened to him, so I sent a text saying that I hope he was okay and to please let me know that he was - nothing. So Saturday morning, I texted one more message - nothing. I finally went online to check for any other information and came across another phone number for him.

I called and guess who answered? If you said: wife, you were right. His wife of five years. She sounded like this had happened before and I apologized to her as I did not intend to cause her any issues, but I explained that now I knew why I had been stood up. She asked if he was wearing his ring and I stated no and that he had completely lied to me about his marital status. I called the HVAC company and requested that he never be sent to my residence ever again, I didn't explain why - just that he was under no circumstances to ever service my address and then I blocked his number and all contact.

You're right we do take a chance no matter what, but those that provide us a service to our residence, it becomes a bit more personal as they have personal information as their disposal. I don't even want to mention the real live crazy guy that I met from this site. He seemed to possess Ike Turner tendencies.

Mustang, fancy, fancy, looks like they get an interesting mix of cars. What was Rick doing when you saw him? I've gone to a local Ford dealership for car shows. People bring some really cools cars. It's a combo car show/big bbq event. It's fun talking to the car owners, with most sitting by their cars they're displaying. And you know they're happy to talk about them🚘

^^^^ Reminds me of a friend of mine. He has a 1930 Ford hotrod. One day, I went to see him-he and a buddy were waxing the underside of his car. That doesn't last long. Currently, that is sitting in his garage. The motor has froze solid, because he wouldn't start the motor up. It did that 8 years ago.

I never heard of waxing under a car. I've heard of undercoating. Why wouldn't he start up the car? I dated a guy that warehoused what he thought would be a collector's vette, but did put insurance on it during the summer to take it on the road.

Oh you simply must get to know some of these car crazies.

One, wrapped his Entire car in Saran Wrap, and drove it to an auto show in Detroit. He didn't want to get it dirty.

Another, whom I built several garages for, picked the paint job apart on his new Chevy Suburban. He walked around it, and pointed out all of the paint flaws to me. (He owned a body shop.) He came home one day, while I was working on his second garage, driving his Dodge Viper. He parked it under a tree. I told him I had a sheet of siding laying right where he had parked his car, and a bird crapped on it. He immediately put his car away. My uncle had a restored International Pickup. You weren't allowed to get into the bed of the truck until you took your shoes off. (Bare feet were a NO-NO!)

Some of these guys are anal. Big Time.

I'd like to wrap my Mustang in saran wrap. Debris on the hwy, sometimes from trucks, cause dings in the paint and start window cracks. Lots of cracked windshields in WA state. If I had a Viper, it would never be just hanging outside my garage. I don't have Viper $$$, but if I did, it would sit too low to get into my garage and may not be able to crest speed bumps☺

hmmm, I meet 'dateable' men in real life all the time.... library, hardware store, school yard, running club, pool service center... I just fail to recognise the opportunities... or maybe because I'm apathetic to factors of life I don't push for any more than idle 'chit chat'....

however - the last time I dated anyone that I met in real life, was hmmmmm 2006... yeah, lived just down the road from me and his exwife and children were no end of drama.... recognise that I shoulda left well enough alone - and probably why I don't take up 'todays' dateable opportunities.

I can't see why using the internet is any different from any other method. The internet is just a tool. Some people who swear they'd never try and meet somebody on line don't think twice about going to a bar. Bars generally involve drinking, and that can lead to real trouble. Many (I didn't say all) bar patrons are alcoholics and drunk drivers. You can't always tell if a person's drunk by looking at them, and if you get in the car with them, it may be the last thing you do.

Then you have the sanctimonious advice columnists who tell people to meet in "church groups" or the like. Anyone remember the mass murderer in Wichita called the "BTK killer?" Guess where he met his victims? IN CHURCH.

Maybe it's not the case in the big cities but nowadays around where I live the bars are often empty with maybe a few regulars. There may be a busy evening here or there but the bars are not the same gathering spot they once were. In my parents' day they were busy every evening of the week.

My mom and aunt were just lamenting that this year the city of Melville cancelled their Valentines dance and their Easter dance due to dwindling attendance for years and lack of volunteers. Dances were huge events once upon a time and tickets told out. Barn dances were still big when I was a teen.

The only events that still seem to get good attendance are hockey games and concerts. People just don't go out anymore. Does everyone just stay home night after night?

On the news, they interviewed young people that said they like OLD, because they'd rather not go to bars. I was going out with the meetup groups, before I decided to stay home and care for my dog. Events could be both day or night. I have a casino nearby that I loved to go to on weekends. It's 24 hrs, where the rest of WA closes down between 12am & 2am.

There could be more or less of any particular age in mine depending on what band is performing. It's free to go into the club where they perform. That's where the concentration of younger kids are.

There used to be a car show at a dealership down the way from me that didn't feel like a giant sales pitch. Of course as soon as I got an car on the road, they stopped with the show--too bad, they had a nice café, the large waiting room had fake business fronts like it was an old main street, and even a waterfall if I remember. This Thursday if it doesn't snow :), i'll be at this one at Gillette Stadium for the Patriot's football team...its too little to be caught in one photo, and its every other week there isn't a game. Pretty much worth the 2 hr drive for me :

Waxing the underside of a car sounds like an idea to prevent salt from the winter getting a hold, but I wonder how his engine seized up, I guess his piston rings rusted to the cylinder walls?

Bars around my place are only hopping on Friday and Saturday nights. Maybe the sports bars do better. But like RR Man said, the internet allows us to do what is our nature.

^^^^Exactly what is in a man's nature to do on the internet, looking at porn perhaps? My friend told me his daughter is breaking up with her bf, looks like he's cheating, but also said she couldn't believe the porn he was looking at. I should have asked, is it something weird, because otherwise, I think looking at porn is to be expected.

Some bars have hot weekday nights, like one I frequented in NY, on a Wed. You'd think it was a Sat nite. Go there on Tuesday or Thurs and its completely empty.

On any multi cylinder engine, there's always valves left open. Left to sit, moisture collects. One rusty cylinder is all it takes to freeze an engine up. Engines that are left for years, should be "Pickled", oil squirted into the plug holes, intakes and exhaust sealed.

Tonight and it irritated me. I try to be civil and even nice when the situation calls for it, but this idiot came out of nowhere to irritate me. I was picking up a pizza for a relative, sitting there minding my own damn business - finally checking my phone, scrolling social media; and this dumb azz walks up and goes: "what's your name?". There was no eye contact exchanged at all.

Normal people usually have some type of eye contact before they proceed to bother a stranger to ask for their name and I looked up to see if I even recognized him and I didn't. He had extremely unkempt hair, messed up teeth and had "an air of bad life choices and struggle moves" about him. And, it was not solely about his appearance, but the rudeness as if he was entitled to know my name - it wasn't an introduction, it was a demand and then a smart ass comment as he rushed off, because he saw I wasn't interested in engaging a dumb ass.

I don't get why some assume that it's cute to bother people and he was old enough to know better than to just randomly go around messing with people, but that's this town and state for you. If men ever wonder why some women wear their "resting b*tch face" think about all of the dumb asses some deal with and encounter. Most men don't deal with some women approaching and either saying something stupid, inappropriate or sexual, especially while minding your own damn business.
