Saying something like "That belt in your 2nd picture caught my eye in an odd way. I mean, I like the dress you're wearing, but I'm assuming you have a better looking belt, right?" will garner a response from a cute chick with lots of attention.

Hmmm… not in my part of the world. You start talking like that to a woman here, and she will likely assume that you’re a gay fashion designer or something.

I once saw advice on some type of how-to-get-a-girl board not to neg. Because, it said, a woman who respects herself and others will not be impressed and will say "I gotta go now." Very true!

True, not a good example - lol. Better one would just be saying "Nice smile in your 2nd photo. But I have to say, that shirt you're wearing in it made me laugh. :)"

Well, to be fair, that's not necessarily the case. A neg is not a neg is not a neg -- they vary a lot, actually. A neg isn't necessarily something that'll be bashing. A gal with a low self esteem will run from anything that's questionable. A gal with a good self esteem won't. Some negs can come off even as being nice, but the under-the-radar goal being to have the other question their attractiveness in the eyes of the other. Like when mingling at a bar/party, and saying "Nice shirt... my grandmother actually has one just like it." They won't take it as the guy "negging", but the result is mildly the same.

It's risky business to ride that line, but I agree with Joe that you'll get more responses (at least) if you're negging on some level VS being yet another dude saying hello.
