After Mr. ED: Dentures, and a DouchebagPage 3 of 3    (1, 2, 3)
Iredurbio2,

Is E D the reason you abandoned dating your own
generation or is it old people in general?

I don't know what gave you the impression that I gave up dating within my own generation. Actually, I prefer to date men who are a little older than I am.
BTW, I, too, am a big fan of mid-century modern.

I am once again happy to be a Canadian. We do not have mandatory tipping here. You tip based on level of service. And some places are becoming non-tipping establishments to compete with the big fastfood chains.

I am also glad to have a 3-party system although right now I have no idea who to vote for. Because we have third parties that can come up the middle and take significant seats away from the two main parties, the two main parties actually have to do things for the Canadian people. I won't vote Liberal because they are an Eastern-interest party and while the Conservatives are a Western-interest party, I don't vote for them because they are too far right when it comes to social programs. But the party I do like, the NDP, are unfortunately too socially leftwing and urban right now. The problem with the NDP is its a coalition between environmentalists, labour unionists, rural socialists and urban socialists, all groups which contradict each other. I am a rural socialist (socially conservative but very much for social programs) and a labour unionist (a member of a big healthcare union and all for organized labour) and I support oil pipelines and am not really an environmentalist. And right now, the urban socialist and environmentalist side of the party is running it with the abysmal leader they have who I cannot support so I might have to vote Conservative, not that it matters because my area is going Conservative regardless.

But despite having our own politics to worry about here, people here tend to take sides in American politics too. There are way too many guys who are Trump supporters and very few women who are. I enjoy a good debate and as long as they are reasonable Trump supporters I could date them. The guys who like his economics I can accept but not the ones who actually like his character. That's too much too accept.

Cinnamon Girl, sorry, I feel your pain. It sucks when you go to the effort to find someone and you get duds. It would be nice to find normal nice guys. Unfortunately, when you get North of 30, most of the guys on POF are longtimers for a good reason. You want to give them a chance by finding the diamond in the rough. A woman's best bet is to peg off a newbie though. Most of the newbies are still nursing broken hearts and on the rebound but you are more likely to find a normal person by that method rather than trolling the shallows for old weird or bitter fish.

More like north of 50 ish, IMO.

But yes....the older a single person becomes, the more bad habits or mind sets deterrent to a relationship are accumulated.

Geez, North of 60 is even worse! July, it works both ways, man of woman, finding a good, normal mate is definitely difficult.

Yes.
I am messaged repeatedly by men who don't even have a car.
I live in a mid-sized city, there is no subway system. My city is very spread out.

What is with all these men who don't have vehicles?

I get it. I'd be lost without my car in spite of the fact that I have very few other tangible assets.

I am once again happy to be a Canadian.

Because it's hockey season? :)

We do not have mandatory tipping here.

Neither does the US. But we have an unwritten rule.

You tip based on level of service.

Same here in the US.

And some places are becoming non-tipping establishments to compete with the big fastfood chains.

Very very few here in the US as experiment.

But it is different in the US vs Canada (not talking about hockey). When in Ontario, I'd have to be reminded that you don't really tip. In the US, it's not mandatory, but unwritten rule that it's at least 15% for adequate service. From my experience in Canadia, it's more like the loose change from the bill, or if it's a big bill you leave them just a buck or so. Any recognizable tip would be on the level of someone in the US giving them extra money beyond a 'standard' tip, due to something quite out of the ordinary that happened.

What "effort"?

Setting up a profile on a dating site, sitting back and waiting for the messages to pour in, and then choosing to talk to and meet problem people by focusing on the shallower aspects of human society?

It would be nice to find normal nice guys.

Then people have to focus better on the deeper fundamentals.

^Sorry. Sometimes I think some of us women take things for granted. It can sometimes appear to be complaining about 1st World problems vs. 3rd World.

Not always....but sometimes. :)

So given this.....

"Shame if its all you get used for ;)"

Would you rather be ignored or used?

I'd rather be ignored 100% of the time. A lesser of two evils.

I'm not sure who in Ontario told you that. Everyone I know, tips. Usually 15%. Even in the nightclubs, every drink brought by the waiters and waitresses are tipped. Most of these people need their tips to survive. It's not mandatory to tip but you would be considered a real cheap a%% not to tip.

How does one beat the above rule? I forgot.

In Montreal I tip. It is in Europe where tipping isn't custom and in Japan it is an insult to do so.But come to think of it in Italy they have a service charge in many places in Rome just to sit down and Costa cruise ship had same fee which is basically to cover tips.

Mr. ED: Dentures, and a Douchebag

I would like to have been your next date, I would looked a dream from heaven in comparison.

If a guy doesn't wear his dentures on a date, he doesn't own dentures. I would make book on that.

Unless this 'change' took hold within the last 10 years -- basically when I was there, I was given a really odd look by the girl I was with that I was leaving a (20%) tip. It wasn't about any particular % amount she raised her eyebrow about, but basically, she lectured to me that beyond the spare change and rounding up to them (~$1), they don't really tip "out here" like in the states unless something unusual happened. And that they didn't make any lower wage being a waitress. But, reading online, I see that in Canada, she was wrong/lying to me -- people do tip about 15%, even though in Ontario, it's $12.20/hr vs $14/hr min wage (not much a diff).

The reason we would tip 15-20% originally in the states, is because the server's minimum wage was much lower than regular minimum wage. When I did in the late 90s, it was $2.35/hr, while the regular minimum wage was $6/hr. So it's understandable for even just adequate service. But, they have raised raised the minimum server wage in most states to compete with regular minimum wage -- which to me, would mean less room for tipping. Instead, the opposite seems true: 15% has been considered leaning on the cheaper side now, and 20% is the base-line. But, one can argue that in the US, the regular minimum wage is much lower than it should be nowadays, so it's to compensate.
