Hey Grog, i agree with you, doesn't matter who our team meets first round now. At least we are going into this with the best the team has played all season. They started out fairly strong but quickly dwindled down to nothing with the injuries and lack of a consistent goalie.

Can't wait for the playoffs to start.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FLAMES RULE
KIPPER vezina trophy
unfornutely Pheneuf will be third for the calder

As long as Edmonton Oilers lose in the first round and the Maple Laffs dont make the playoffs
life in hockey land is good.

Flames vs Oilers? Yes that would be good for the first round - good for the Flames because they'll kick some Oiler butt! Roloson? Gimme a break!

I wish Kippy would come on over.....take Bert and Cloutier!

That's absolute insanity! Like the Flames would give up their star player for a couple of useless bums!

im afraid you will win the Lotto before that happens
The Jamaican bob sledding team has more a chance to win a Gold medal before the Leafs will even get into the stanley cup let alone win it

This time we cannot keep blaming the core group...AULD although I know he has tried to be a starter...should have never been one this season...NONIS HAS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT OUR GOALIES.

You think Vancouver's got it bad, look at Tampa. Their goaltending situation is abysmal!

I couldn't agree with you more!

With any luck...TB will be replaced by Atlanta. We're 2 points out right now and Carolina plays TB tonight. Huge game against Boston tomorrow and I'm there!!!
Go Thrashers!

Hey! Watch your tongue there boy! Well, I am clearly worried about Tampa though. Their goaltending situation is abysmal and they've put themselves in a situation that is er, not that great. Their remaining games are certainly on the tougher side compared to Atlanta. Best to just keep the fingers crossed, that's all.

Canes vs. Ottawa.....canes win and Ottawa blows it again. Canes lose in seven to Detroit.......unless age can give them an advantage.

I`m going to go out on a limb here and predict an Ottawa-Detroit final with the wings winning in the first overtime of game 7. I`ll even give the time of the winning goal,10:13. So there you have it, you can now go on with your lives. Thank you!

I wrote my own hockey simulator, keyed in the actual player data, and have it spitting out results (staying at least a day ahead of the actual games).

So far, the series are as follows (first two games of each series simulated):

WEST
2-0 Edm.
1-1 Dal/Col.
2-0 Cal.
1-1 SJ/Nsh.

EAST
2-0 Ott.
2-0 Car.
2-0 NYR.
2-0 Buf.

Oh wow, I'm trying to keep this stuff updated on three different forums!!
Just go see SportsNet.ca, their hockey forums, look in general, and look for my simulator thread.

FIFTY MISSION CAP (lyrics tragically hip) For All Die Hard Leaf Fans... The best hockey song of all time...

Bill Barilko disappeared that summer,
he was on a fishing trip.
The last goal he ever scored
won the Leafs the cup
They didn't win another until 1962,
the year he was discovered.
I stole this from a hockey card,
I keep tucked up under
my fifty mission cap, I worked it in
to look like that

Bill Barilko disappeared that summer, (in 1950)
he was on a fishing trip.(in a plane)
The last goal he ever scored (in overtime)
won the Leafs the cup
They didn't win another until 1962,
the year he was discovered.

I keep tucked up under
my fifty mission cap, I worked it in

4Hire does your simulator work better on the sportsnet forums?
cause you've got about 80% of them wrong on this one.

Without posting all the scores, here are where the series stand so far after 4 games played:

WEST
3-1 Edmonton
2-2 Dallas/Colorado
4-0 Calgary (sweep)
2-2 Nashville/San Jose

EAST
4-0 Ottawa (sweep)
3-1 Carolina
4-0 New York (sweep)
2-2 Buffalo/Philadelphia

Quite a few sweeps in the first round. Quite a few shockers. Some comments: The simulator does not model injuries... so Hasek is playing for Ottawa, Jagr is playing for the Rangers, Lundqvist isn't getting the playoff jitters, etc. It's just going by the numbers.

Every game was close in the Cal/Ana series but the Flames were just a bit better in each one. Lundqvist stood on his head for the first two games shutting out the Devils and really helped in that series. The Red Wings blew a lead in the first THREE games of the series to the Oilers before finally clobbering them in game four.

Anyway, it's still early (in reality and in the simulator) so we'll see what happens. See how many series it gets right.

I think people make WAY too big a deal out of ONE playoff game.

I look at what's happening in Carolina for example where they lost game #1 and decided to switch goalies for game #2. As if Ward is better than Gerber. Then they lose game #2.

Another example is New York going with Weekes instead of Lundqvist when the latter is a much better goalie and one of the reasons why they made the playoffs in the first place.

Some teams hit the panic button way too soon and put too much stock in a single game. Anything can happen in one game, but let's see what happens in the whole series.

Here's a little bit of trivia:
Ottawa's only been around since 1992.
They've only been making the playoffs (consecutively) since 1999.
Ottawa has battled back from bancruptcy.
They've choked in a few playoff series agains the Leafs... BUT the Leafs have been choking in the playoffs since 1967. In fact, they haven't even made the cup finals since then either. The Leafs don't deserve a fraction of their fans.

Anyway, enough of that.

1st round predictions? I say Ottawa, Buffalo, NJ and Montreal in the East. Detroit, Calgary, Nashville and Colorado in the West.

I'd love to say Ottawa will win the cup, but I'm never that confident. I do think they'll make the finals though.

In 1997 we made the playoffs by beating Buffalo in our last game of the year thanks to a late goal by Steve Duschene. Then we lost in game 7 to the same team (Buffalo) due to an overtime goal by Derek Plante on Ron Tugnutt. In 1998 we eliminated New Jersey then lost to Washington in the second round.

You didn't do anything. Your involvement in the Senators success was zero. I always think it's funny when fans take ownership for the team's success.

I've always said that if Toronto missed the playoffs, Ottawa wouldn't have any more roadblocks between them and the Cup.
