Mark Messier Joke-

One day, Mario Lemuix, Wayne Gretzky, and Mark Messier all go up to heaven
and they all meet God at his throne. God asks them all two questions.

God: Mario, what did you accomplish in your life?

Mario: Well, in 11 NHL seasons, I won 4 scoring titles, was second all
time with 2.03 points per game, and after battling back from cancer, I
lead my team to the Eastern Conference finals.

God: And what did the people around think of you?

Mario: The people in Pittsburgh loved me!

God: Wayne, what did you accomplish in your life?

Wayne: Well, in my 17 NHL seasons, I won 11 league scoring titles, I was
league MVP 9 times, I received 4 Lady Byng Trophies, earned 5 Lester B.
Pearson Awards, and lead Edmonton to 4 Stanley cups.

God: And what did the people around think of you?

Wayne: The people of North America love me so much they called me The
Great One!

God: Mark, what did you accomplish in your life?

Mark: Well, I reached the 50-goal mark once, the 100-point plateau 5
times, I was voted the 1984 playoff MVP, and I had my name etched in 5
Edmonton Stanley Cups. In the '93-'94 playoffs, I promised a game 6
victory in the Eastern Conference Finals, and delivered, and then brought
a Cup to Broadway.

God: And what did the people around think of you?

Mark: Well, the people in New York love me, and frankly, they think
you're sitting in MY seat!

alot of hype for the Flames eh...i like them but...come on...they may win the division...MAYBE...but they definitly aint gonna get by Nashville, San Jose or Anahiem...sorry boys. If they want to win...they might wanna invest on some offensive talent....because you cant win a game with 1 goal now a days

Mark my words: the Flames will finish towards the bottom of the pack and don't be surprised if the Oil finish above them.

Oilers are gonna whip those Sharks tonight! Give them a small sampler tonight to remind them of how we whooped their lil fins last year. Muahahaha!!! It's a PPV game so we're all going to one of the sports bars in Vancouver that broadcasts Oiler games.

3rd in the west is higher then 8th tock. and you said the oil would win the cup wrong again. both teams finished without the cup a failed season on both teams parts.

Obviously you've forgotten or just habitually like being habitually wrong. You said that the Oilers have no chance of making the playoffs and they did. Even when things looked bleak, I still maintained that the Oilers were playoff contenders - and they were! Then you said that you would wear a dress and clean the City of Champions sign in Edmonton if the Oilers went further than the Flames in the playoffs...and they did (by the way, you reneged on the deal) Those posts are still lurking around earlier in this thread for everyone to read. In a nutshell, you were right (but barely) about them not winning the Cup, but you were wrong for every other round along the way and about them not making the playoffs at all (so you were one for five).

PS. And for those of you that thought the Oil were a Cinderella team and that they would fall apart after the departure of Pronger, Peca, etc...well, you obviously didn't watch the team that went almost all the way last season. They look pretty damn convincing to me and will definitely make some noise this year.

Oilers would have thumped the Flames in 5 or 6.
Think about it. Oilers beat the team that beat the Flames...and they did it in 5 games!

9-1 Buff over Phili....

That was a beatdown of biblical proportions. There is no doubt in my mind that the Sabres are the best team this year and probably would have gone all the way last year had injuries not severely handicapped them. As for the Flyers, I don't know who Bobby Clarke blew in order to keep his job over the years. He's as old school as it gets and getting him to adapt to the climate of the 'new NHL' would be like trying to teach rocket science to a chimp. Here's my short list of immediate changes the Flyers should make:

1) Fire Bobby Clarke!
2) Fire Hitchcock!
3) Get rid of that pilon, Hatcher! Watching the Sabres skate around him reminded me of speedboats blowing past a rusty cargo ship. When he clumsily tries to hit someone, it reminds me of an elephant trying to swat away flies with its trunk.

^ Huh?? The "flames had worn them out"?? Dude, the Ducks went on to sweep the Avalanche in the next round and then have a 8 day rest before they faced the Oilers. On the other hand, the Oilers had only one day of rest (instead of the 3 they should have been granted after a 6 game series) after a hard-hitting series with the Sharks and the entire team was riddled with a flu bug (remember the reports of players puking between periods?).

whatcya think pronger's gonna think of his old teamates

Who cares? Do you wonder what Conroy, Nemo and Commodore thinks of their old teamates? I didn't think so.

whats my point?????? you never played a team close to the flames style in the playoffs. you cant say cause ducks beat calgary and oil beat the ducks that the oil would have beaten the flames. there is so many intangables in the game

My statement was directed to the fact that the Flames style of play is not suited for the new NHL. They will never go deep in the playoffs because they can't clutch-n-grab their way to the finals anymore. They lost to a team with superior offence who in turn lost to another superior team, the Oilers.

What you failed to notice and what everyone overlooked last year - at least until the Oilers showed what they're made of - was that the Oilers were perfectly designed for the new NHL. It was only until the Oilers started playing a determined and confident game did the rest of the league realize just how fast, gritty and talented the Oiler forwards were - a key ingredient of the remaining 4 teams. I remember before the playoffs began, Jim Rome interviewed players from several teams, including Detroit, and asked which team they wanted to face the least. The most common team mentioned was the Oilers! That is, while the rest of the world underestimated the Oilers by the way they squeaked into the playoffs, the real professionals - the ones who play the game - knew that this team could be very dangerous.

i fthe oil had meet a hot briz(whatever) they would have been out the first round also.

I disagree. I think he played fairly well, it's just the quality of Oiler shots were better than those that the Flames were capable of...a problem that is plaguing them till this day. Also, the only reason the Flames went to seven games is that the Ducks made the mistake of playing that piece of crap, Jiggy, for the first few games.

if the sabers had not lost 4 defencemen in the playoffs they would have beat the canes.

About the only thing we have agreed on so far. I love the Sabres...they remind me of the Oilers in so many ways.

Memo to Sutter: speed, talent & grit wins Cups nowdays.....end transmission...

oil would never beat Flames in play-offs,might go to the limit..but......Flames just need to play thier best and look-out.Clutch and grab should be outlawed. What ya call how the oilers play?Whatever.Oilers ain't superior to nothing. Change thier name to GOONS.Memo to oilers fans, give your head a shake.
