Many years ago I met Gordie Howe in O'Hare airport on a trip to Wisconsin to play the Badgers.
Colleen(his wife and manager) was two seats down withe the briefcase open studying contracts.
Ol #9 sat there with the Free Press in hand reading the sports page.
He had shoulders the size of a bull moose's.
He could not have been nicer as he asked us about our season and signed our tickets.
What a thrill to meet Mr. Hockey.

Last night while flying into Edmonton I had the pleasure to meet George Chuvalo. Nice guy but a little punchy.

You are wrong, the Pats and the Leafs are the same franchise just the nick name changed.
Like the Ducks changed theirs.

Yes Prairie you did but not Sly.
Their is no Leaf franchise but there is a Toronto franchise(barely). Therefore they have missed the playoffs 3 yrs in a row before.

[Also, if we're going to use that line of thinking then we have to credit the Ottawa Senators with something in the area of 20 Stanley Cup titles.]

No Sly you are wrong again. The Ottawa Senators of today is a completly different franchise from the Ottawa team of the first few decades.

The Maple Leafs and the Pats are the same franchise. Only the name changed. The original Ottawa franchise was disolved.

Well, Smack...looks like the Nucks are already done like dinner. As we speak, they are sitting in the 9th spot and the Preds have a pretty easy schedule until the playoffs. Dunno..don't think the Nucks are going to make it this year.

As for the Oilers, they seem to stack up to the (relatively healthy) Flames.

Sly you obviously have no concept of how a business is operated.
The NHL and their teams are nothing more than individual businesses.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a business. Their original nickname was the St. Pats. They changed it to the Leafs. Same business just a different name.

The Detroit Hockey Club/Franchise/Business, did the same thing changing it's name from Cougars to Red Wings. Same team/franchise/business though.

The original Ottawa Senators hockey team/business was dissolved. shut down, Kaput!
In the 90's a new business called the Ottawa Senators was started. There is no connection to the two other than there name and where they are located.

The Calgary Flames are the same franchise/business as the Atlanta Flames.
The Colorado Rockies are the same business/franchise as the Quebec Nordique.

The Atlanta Thrashers have no connection to the original Atlanta Flames because it is an entirely new Team/franchise/business!
If a new team starts in Quebec City called the Nordique it will not be the same franchise/team/business. There fore the records will not carry over.

Smackem even if the oilers snuck in at 8th they would not see the Flames. My prediction... Wings beet # 8 no matter who it is.

Lets see... last year the Wings go to the 3rd round, the Flames go only to the 1st round but somehow the Flames are the better playoff team?
It don't add up Smackem.

Yes Prairie that is why I said sorry a couple of posts ago so now it is your turn to let it die.

Hey Smackem if the Wings are a bad playoff team then the Flames are a horrendous playoff team based on your theory.

lol...speaking of the Flames, I can't believe their string of luck in regards to injuries. If they manage to stay healthy, they could go deep. The whole complexion of the first round matchups are changing on a nightly basis ...lol...so we'll see who matches up with who. Can't believe Nashville managed to claw their way into 8th and I'm really thinking the Nucks are finished. No heart, no desire, no passion...but on a positive note, there's no shortages of excuses.

Nashville was predictable as they had the easiest schedule down the stretch.
