I don't even like to visit the states. No way in hell would I move there. I'd sooner move to Iraq. Crossing the US border is like stepping back 50 years in time.

Yes, but only in the sense that we still believe in family. I lived in BC, Canada for two years and really didn't see that many families. Then there are the drugs. The horrible way men treat women. My youngest daughter was with me(she was 12) and I certainly did not want her growing up there. The United States isn't perfect but we still have some basic morals and the majority of us still value the sense of family. Canada would be the last place I would ever move!!! At one time I thought Canada was called the Great White North because of all the snow, but now I know better. At least I didn't see much snow on the ground.

Oh, yes they have plenty of children in Canada, but few that I saw where born in a family. I saw few people under the age of 50 with a family. They just seem to come together to have sex, and if a child comes out of it, it does. Then the drugs, every night the Vancouver news delt with grow ops that had been busted, or a big coke bust. As to racist, white Canada is way more racist than we will ever be.

I find it interesting that the couple of people that have lived in Canada that would never move back were in Vancouver..hmmm. It's a well know fact that Vancouver is probably the drug capital of Canada..being so close to some of the States that have a high rate of drug abuse. Just look where it's Geographically situated. Ports...borders..I can't speak about the whole getting together for just sex. I live in Canada's most highly populated area...Southern Ontario and FAMILY is a mainstay here. You're here aren't you? Things didn't work out for you like most of us on the family front but I can assure you, I come from a long line of long lasting marriages..as does my ex's ...and most of my friends come from a two-parent home...unfortunately mine didn't work out. I'm still all for family because I believe my children are THE most important people in my life. You should have stepped outside your box and took a trip to another Province maybe?

Now before you start pointing fingers, I had a long distance relationship for a year with a man in North Carolina...I could go on about how @ss-backwards the area he lived in was...If I was narrow minded I may just say that all southerners are country bumpkins or rednecks...but I'm not. Open your minds people. As people, Americans and Canadians are not that much different. Subtle differences that might make a person believe one is better than the other but you find the good, the bad and the ugly anywhere on this Planet. Half my family is still in Germany...a quarter of my mother's side immigrated to the States...we're all Family and alike in many ways.

As for gun control..I've never seen a gun up close..nor do I have a need for one. My brother in law owns some and must be licensed have them locked up. And the racism? I've seen more mixed couples in Canada then I've seen in the States I've visited. We're more tolerant I believe. Even coming from a very very Geman background, I have a couple of cousins that are married to African Canadian men and have children with them. My family didn't bat an eye.

The country in which we live in doesn't change the fact th at we are all humans. Let's celebrate are commonality as well as our differences !

lol blu.....I guess I got sidetracked as to what the post was really all about. Would I date another man long distance and move? No. And it has nothing to do with the Country but rather the fact that I would never move my children away from their father. He may have been a bad husband, but he's a good father and I would never deny him the time with his sons.

I actually have someone up in Canada I do kinda fancy, and this has become an issue a little bit. Not that we are serious, (as both of us are dating, although lately it has been disasterous for me.lol) but I do have feelings for him, and do love Vancouver, so it has crossed my mind. I would say if he felt the same way, I would do it if I got a great job there, but I would live on my own first there, and then see if moving together would be good. Everything has to go in stages. =)

I would move to Victoria, BC in half a heartbeat. I love it there!! I used to go all the time when I lived in Seattle, and it would be close enough to my daughter's father that they could visit.

To me the biggest thing would have to be the difference in the weather.
What would be your fear in making the move?


Hmm...a Canadian lady would have to make an awfully big run at me to make me consider the move...and the fear at that point would be of moving to a place I would hardly know a soul, and of finding employment, of course.

No problem! There are some very nice places south of the border. I was born down there while my parents were at university, so i can come and go as I please. My last girlfriend was from NY we met on a cruise. In fact i,m think of returning to college in the states. Tell me more about this island sigi....

I have read some of the 18 pages. Didn't see anyone who said "I have a life, why would I give up that life". Maybe I feel that way because I am older and have a history that I enjoy, a business, home etc. I also feel that if I can't find a partner within 75 miles, something is wrong.

Congradulation to most of you, who have played nice and got alone well with the others on this tread.

well max i lived in Canada for 3 years and yes it is a beautiful place and yes america has its' problems but i like it here and if you do not please do not let the door hit you in the crack your mother gave on the way back. nothing personal to you but if anyone does not like it here you are free to leave. get it land of the free.

well, from experience....

i had met a lady in texas (i'm in ontario/canada), we dated for a few years (3) before deciding that neither of us really wanted to leave our home countries. while our reasons for deciding it were different, it took far to long for either of us to come to that agreement.

but in the end, i suppose it saves us both alot of trouble, because while we may care very deeply for eachother, we both have enough brains in our head to understand that once in the opposite country, we're kind of up a creek without a paddle if things ended up turning sour.

my biggest regret in that sense is not stepping back and looking at that alot sooner.. guess i was still blinded by the fact that someone enjoyed being around me for who i was rather than how much i make or what i look like.

so in the end, i'd have to say i'd not make the move, it caused alot of pain overall but as long as i keep looking towards the future i'm sure that things can move on.

I'd JUMP!!..In a Minute..!! I consider myself 1/2 Canadian{STILL}..our family had a summer cottage just W. of Pt. Colborne,Ont.
I've always found Canadian women fascinating, challenging and attractive, for the Most part...{always exceptions}..
If I could find a Canadian Lady, that shared a mutual attraction..I wouldn't think more than _Once_ to enter into a serious relationship!! . . . .

i'm only responding to the first post that started this thread.

i'm from the SE US and thinking about moving to Canada. i'm not a socialist, more of a libertarian if that means anything. the reason i would move is because they're laws are more green friendly. In British Columbia (or Alaska) there is no penalty of law for possessing green that is illegal everywhere else in the World (exc. Amserdam of course). So, that is such a big issue for me (the war on drugs) that its worth moving out of country for and its esp. worth moving out of state for. i may just move to the NW but i'm considering Van Couver, Canada.
