We come in all shapes and sizes and I really don't think we are ever happy with the way we are. If we have straight hair, we want it curly, if it's curly, we want it straight. I just want to feel good about my body. I want to be fit, that is all. Once I'm fit, I will be fine with whatever number is on my scale.

I accept myself, but I need to lose the weight to feel better. I find I am happier health wise if I can lose this last 30 lbs., I have allergies and asthma and the extra weight seems hard on me. I gained after a car accident and my darling ex drove me into a very stressed depression.
Between not being able to move to well and being medicated I gained a lot of weight. I lost a whole lot by dumping the ex, getting off the meds and starting to relax and not worrying to much anymore.
I would very much like to lose my last 30, but I have chrones, which means no fruit or veggies and no red meat or grains. I also have a bad hip and arthritis in my toe, which slows me down a little. MY goofy work hours don't help either. I would very much like to go swimming as this is something I can manage and would like a buddy to go with me. I'm in the Oshawa area if anyone would care to join me.
I would also appreciate any diet suggestions from any of you. Weight watchers, Dr. Bernstein and Herbal Life have actually turned me down as I can't do the veggie salad thing.
I have no problem with anyones weight as long as they feel healthy, so to all you ladies out there who think they have to lose weight to look beautifull, look at Queen Latifa, she's beautifull and funny and overweight. Look at the old masters artwork, no skinny gals there, men used to prefer rubinesque woman as it showed signs of wealth. If thats not enough checkout the forums about men prefering heavier women, no lack of wants there either, lots of fellas prefer a little meat on their girls. Made me feel better about myself right away.
Advice of the day, do what ever makes you feel good about yourself.

I recently lost 135lbs - turned out I did not have a metabloism. My family DR. has known me since I was 7yrs old, he knew that there was some reason I could not loose weight since I was very active, into dance, karate, going to the gym for weight training, aerobics etc. A simple blood test showed that although I did not have diabeties my blood sugars were out of wack and in turn threw my system out of wack. I am now on Metformin (a diabetic med.) and in the first couple of months with proper food and exercise I lost 60lbs. The rest came off slower over the next 6 months but non the less came off. Most family Dr's now know of this test and support for over weight people who might be at risk for diabeties, heart attack or stroke.
It is really important to know that a life style change in what you eat and how you exercise is important (not a diet of any kind). Also reducing stress is just as highly important because stress causes weight gain.
*Note this was all done for my health and not vanity - both my parents died from Stroke - Heart attack and Diabeties. My Mother had her first stroke at age 46 and was house bound from that point on changing our entire families life. Both were very sick for many many years. I am 43 and don't want to go down that road.

This is quite cool, I am fairly new to POF completely nevermind the forums...I am glad I found this one. It seems I am not the only one in this boat...duh, do you think? Been workingon weight loss FOREVER. The last year has been the most successful...down 20 it has been slow or so slow, but I figure if it comes off slow it more likely to stay off.

Gotta go, I'll be back !

to penumbric: try cutting out white food, potatoes, bread, pasta. Go with with whole wheat or barn, use mustard instead of mayo. Cut sugar in coffee, work your way down from cream to homo to 2percent to 1 percent, get used to it after awhile.
See if friend will go swimming with you.
I've managed to lose over 30 lbs. I can't salad, fruit or veggies, no nuts or grains. Have chrones, hard to diet. Change food habits, instead of donut, whole wheat toasted bagel with cream cheese or peanut butter, toasted, or low fat jam, skip butter.
Lunch whole wheat bread, low fat deli meat, experiment with diff. mustards, soup.
Dinner, try more chicken and fish, same, experiment, eat salad and a veggie, no potatoes, try just steak and simple salad, lettuce, tomato, onion and light dressing.
this always worked for me.
Good luck

One thing I learned, losing more than 2-3 lbs a week makes it harder to keep it off, your body adjusts better to a slow loss than a quick one, I've lost 6lbs, and keeping it off is easy even when I give in to my chocolate cravings.
I also find that after every 10 lbs I lose I get stuck for a few weeks before I start losing again, so don't let this discourage you, as long as you don't gain, don't worry and don't give up. I've lost a total of 36 lbs and I'm still losing.
Congratulations cagewench, your doing great!

So how's everyone's weight loss goals coming along.
Myself, not too good. Been focussing on my (previous) move and (previous) party that I hosted, but I'm kicking my a*** in gear sometime soon and getting a gym membership. Somewhere I know my friends will be, and that will motivate me even more.

Here i come salads, water, and exercise!!

If anyone is looking for a free online way to track their weight loss, exercise and calories, they can go to www.sparkpeople.com It tells you how many calories to consume each day and how much exercise to do and which types and you log it. It's set up so you lose 1 to 2 lbs per week. I've lost 66lbs since mid October, which is averaging 2.9 lbs per week. They even have suggested meals for people that just aren't sure what to eat.

congrats to everyone who is losing.

Ok lets update.....I was post #20 last time so you can get the background info.

I spend way too much time in the car travelling for work.
Solution? Alternating Buttcheek flexes, I have a mini-barbell for arm curls....and i've been pulled over twice by the cops on Hwy 11 for strange behaviour behind the wheel

I walk. I'd like a walking buddy.
But not one that wants to talk cause I have a walkman on with sweating to the oldies & the odd time dance hall reggae.. or cares what they look like because I am a HORRENDOUS SWEATY MESS when I'm done my walks. I try to walk at a pace of "omg theres a weird guy following me so I can't look like i'm trying to run but I'd better get my ass moving" speedwise

But I'm not weighing myself.. theres a certain way I want to look and a weight number has nothing to do with it
Spanks.. I think you should pony up and move to Barrie.. to walk with me among other reasons

Weight Loss...I'm Confiding in my Fellow Fishies

Hello All,

Like many of you I have been blessed with lots of curves and extra weight. I was a normal weight as a kid, gained weight, lost it , gained it, lost it, was skinny and thought I was still fat (the image in the mirror never changed even when I was a size 6 and have gained it again. I have tried all sorts of diets, none of them really worked and most recently I actually gained all of my weight becuase I was working out constantly - I found out later that I had stressed adrenal glands and as a result my body was in constant shock from lack of sleep over the years combined with not eating enough food. Currently I am losing weight again and I want to share a few tricks and tips with my fellow beauties out there.

1) You can work out daily in small measures - Do pushups against the wall in the bathroom daily to strengthen your arms - takes about 5 minutes until you feel them burn.
2) do 50 to 100 sit-ups every day - takes about 7 minutes
3) do butt dips using a chair, couch or end of your bed from home - put your ams behind you, and put yourself into a sitting position and then lift using your thighs and butt - if you extend higher you will feel a burn in your lower stomach
4) walk whenever you can but amazingly - get yourself a jump rope - just 10 minutes of rope jumping a day is amazing for your cardio and for everywhere else
5) Do isometrics when you can - if you are watching tv - put your arms out in from of you parallel to each other and with small movements reach forward - five minutes and your arms will burn.

I have been working these tiny and soooooooooo easy things into my daily life since March - so far I ahve lost about 25 lbs. In terms of food, I have never really been a junk food person and eat quite healthy- whole grains, vegetables, fruits, never drink pop, leaner meats, and mostly I try not to eat out as much anymore. The trick I found becuase like many of you is that in the morning - I can't really eat is to have a protein shake - but most importantly with something called Eudo's oil that I add into it - it's essential fatty acids - and for some reason by having those fats in the am - almost all of my cravings for fat or junkfood are minimalized throughout the day. Also, I have started eating throughout the day - I usually begin around noonish with real food - healthy stuff and then mibble all day long until about 7 pm.

So far the little exercising I have been doing has had even better results then when I hit the gym hard regularly which is what I was doing and it's because it's isometrics based - the trick try to isolate the musles in the areas you want to lose and figure out which actions isolate the muscle and repeat. Lots of stuff can be done even while driving, sitting, on the phone, lying in bed - yes..the sexercise method is good..but only if you can find a lover who can rock your world to the sweating point and is good at getting you into those gumby positions. But something you can do while lying in bed is butt squeezes, lie on your back and try to squeeze your ass checks together - practice repeatedly and it will help firm your ass and hips as well and getting you into practice for those sexercise moments - lol

Anyways,
Like yourselfs I am on the road to health - doing it for myself - there are still those skinny clothes in my closet that are still in fashion and dammit I want to wear them! Will keep you updated with my progress...only 50 more pounds to lose! Good luck and tons of hugs!!

Good for you Kai....

My story is similar...lots of stress, years of bad food and I guess...eating my feelings. I am down 70 lbs so far and continuing to make good progress. You could even say I am even down 240 lbs if you count shedding my Ex!

I made the lifestyle change and now better eating habits and regular exersise is a part of me! No fad diet, just good food and exersise and patience to let that work. The feel good about yourself factor kicks in pretty early so you get some benefit right away!

you have to get a good one, with a long stride, so it is just like walking without the impact.

I have one thats almost perfect.. the stride is a bit short for my liking.. but dammmmmm do the thighs ever burn after!

I love it!

Thanx Mae... my neighbour has one and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the burn in my thighs. It let's me know that I am doing something right!!! I'm short so I'm not too sure if a long stride makes much of a difference... I'll look into that though for sure!!

I recently read a book and I highly recommend it. The title is "Eat, Drink and Lose Weight." Although it promotes incorporating more veggies and grains into ones diet it also breaks down and explains good carbs versus bad carbs, how proteins work, how soy products do increase your blood sugar thus raising your insulin level.. oh and for anyone who is confused (like me) about the different types of fats (saturated, unsaturated, polysaturated)... it breaks down and explains them too.

I know it sounds like a lot to take in and that it might have a bunch of boring facts and figures along with it being written like a graduates thesis... NOPE.. it's in layman's terms and very easy to understand.

To lose weight.. you must CONSUME LESS calories than you burn.

Here'e something for all of you...

"If we've learned to trim the fat from our diets, why, during that same period has the obesity rate nearly doubled? And why hasn't the war on fat led to a plummeting of heart disease rates in recent years? Part of the reason is that we've cut ALL fats without regard to the benefits of unsaturated fats which can improve levels of cholesterol and other fat particles in the blood, strengthen the heart against dangerous erratic heartbeats, and fight the gradual clogging of the arteries. But aren't these 'good' unsaturated fats still fattening? Not necessarily. It may surprise you to learn that it's not the fat -saturated or unsaturated- in your diet that makes you fat. And contrary to popular assumptions you can't control your weight just by limiting "fat calories". The bottom line is, a calorie is a calorie. Eat more calories than you burn - any kind of calories whether they're from fat, carbohydrates, or protein- and you'll gain weight. So, if you keep your total caloric intake and your activity level constant and shift the ratio of the kinds of fat you eat to include more unsaturated fats and less saturated ones, you won't gain weight. Add to this a small reduction in carbohydrates, and you'll lose weight." (pg. 35)

Blah.... read the book.... I'm not gonna preach to you.

What you should be looking for is a machine that feels comfy when you're on it.. the motion should not feel un natural.
Best example i can give is the clown peddling on the teeny tiny bike... looks weird feels weirder.
If you're short.. maybe one of those cheap Orbitrek ones wouldn't be so bad.. I can't use them.. cause it looks like a fat clown on a teeny tiny bike

Gidget, I saw your posting. This is the first posting I have ever done and will probably be the last. I am posting to help you and others with some information regarding losing weight.

Next time when you are grocery shopping, look at the ingredients of everything processed you buy. The dirtiest secret regarding the obesity epidemic is a processed starch called "High Fructose Corn Syrup." Its not a natural sugar, its an artificially processed one. However, the worst thing about it is that it kills a brain chemical that tells you you are full. If you consume foods with this, you will eat more because it kills the natural chemical telling you that you are full. Exercise and healthy eating are important, but if you consume products with HFCS, you will not lose weight. Unfortunately, HFCS is now in everything, from milk, fruit juices, soda, mayonaise and most other processed foods. I found this out by accident. For more information, get the book "The Owner's Manual," written by 2 doctors.

Also, caffeine causes your body to absorb about 26% more carbohydrates. If you knock off the HFCS, eliminate caffeine, and get moderate amounts of exercise, you will watch the weight melt off. I know.

Good luck.

WooooooHoooooooooooooooooooooooooo CAGE!

Congrats girl!

And keep your butt moving.

OK......I'm a frikin slacker. End of story.
I used to work Weird long hours (that are never the same), completely screwd me up.

Monday I am starting a new position within my company that is a 10 minute walk from home. I switched my kids into a daycare that is a 5 minute walk from my home, on the way to work.
I'm burying the car key.
No more driving. (i used to put over 6000K on my car a month for work)

And thanks Magtag.. but I wouldn't be upset if my legs ended up being extremely muscular, I'm at the point where i need some serious muscle to burn the fat fuel i'm storing (if i were to spontaneously combust, I'd take out a city block)

Walk on peeps

After my 135lb weight loss I have been going up and down 10lbs and not losing more - Patio nights and BBQ's have helped me do that YIKES!
I am now looking for a treadmill - anyone got one for sale CHEAP! If you're using it just to hang your clothes on I wouldn't mind using it!!!
I have to try and go back to laying off the treats! I'ts all about lifestyle and mine has been slipping!
It's never easy, but it can be done, so I'm going back for that goal I was supposed to be at by now!
