you're fired!Page 2 of 3 (1, 2, 3)
I've been fired twice. Once was on purpose, the other was a prick who thought he was harming me.
The first one was at a place named the Gyro Wrap. I was a teenager and was working two jobs. I wanted to cut it down to one and this place was the one I was going to quit. The manager was an ego maniac and I just wanted to see how long it would take him to fire me. Basically I kept goofing off all night, not doing anything he said, etc., and it took this guy almost 6 hours to fire me. It was sort of funny. The final straw was I would not wear a hat at work that night. This guy never wore a hat and I told him I would wear one when he wore one. That finally did it and he fired me. It was actually kind of funny.
The other one was after I had gotten out the military. I had been working for a company for about a month and I had a better job offer from another employer. It was strictly business, no bad feeling on my part. My immediate supervisor was a *rick, but all the other bosses were pretty cool. He got his panties in a wad a few days prior when I told him to refer to me by name instead of "Hey you."
When I gave my notice everyone else was sorry to see me go. The *rick wasn't there when I gave it, but when he learned of it he kept paging me across the intercom to meet him at the time clock. When your a-hole boss is paging you to meet at the time clock, you know what's up. So I took my time and went around and said good bye to everyone. This dude was PISSED. It was too funny!
He thought by firing me that he would make me unemployed and hurt my cash flow before my new job started. In reality I just started there the next day.

Oh yeah. When I was about 18 years old I worked in this really upscale restaurant. We were supposed to carry these big ass trays on our shoulder to the table and someone would set up a tray jack (the rack to set it down on) next to the table. Well, I had a table of about 8 people..they all ordered steak and lobster tails with drinks from the bar oc course. Got them their drinks, put their order in etc.
Brought this huge tray with 8 dinners and sides out on my puny shoulder (mind you I was 5'3" and about 102 lbs) just made it to the table and there was no jack. Asked for help from the manager standing there, no dice. One of the customers jumped up to help me out and knocked the whole tray over on the floor.
I felt like I could die, he was beside himself, everyone at the table was trying to clean it up and saying "sorry" etc. bus people helped me clean it up, I got them some more****ails, said I would re-order their dinners and when I went to get their "new" dinners, the cook just rinsed off the food and re-arranged it on the dishes. I got sick to my stomach and told him I couldn't serve them the food that was all over the floor. The manager got mad and demanded that I get back out there and give them their dinner ( hair stuck to it and all?) I refused to do it and he fired me.
I started to cry, cause I am a girl and I got fired...on the way out I made a point to tell the people I was leaving and why. They said we're leaving too and the man gave me a fifty dollar bill as a tip. That was so nice and it made me feel so much better about getting fired! HA
That was the only job I got fired from (thank God)

Once - I had been laid off of a job in my own industry, and took a job managing a telemarketing team selling telephone systems to businesses. I'd been there about 2 or 3 weeks, and a huge hurricane (Floyd, 1999) was coming right to my area, I took my daughter and my dog and for safety's sake went to a friend's house in the next state. I called my boss the next morning and told her I'd be in later in the afternoon when I got back to town. When I walked in, I was berated that management needs to go down with the ship (yes, she was single, no kids) and I basically abandoned my post by leaving! She then went on to tell me that she didn't approve of my socializing with the sales staff (I went to lunch one day with one of the girls in the outside sales group, the nerve of me!), and also, in the two weeks I'd been there, I hadn't turned the telemarketing department around.... I happily gathered my belongings and left after that. And no, that job is not even a blip on my resume!!
Other than that, I've been laid off twice (incidentally, both times from the same company mentioned above), but I'm still in the same industry - that's a help because using my connections, I was never out of work any longer than I wanted to be. I did walk out of a job when I was about 23, having had enough of a verbally abusive co-worker and a boss that wouldn't do anything about it, that was the only time I left a job with no notice. I guess I've been very lucky - I've pretty much written my own ticket...

More like told to resign but it really is being fired. It was at the worst place I ever worked in my life in the worst job I ever had. I was an engineer for a tier one automotive supplier. I lasted there for two years. They gave me a good severence package. But its a long story. I was put into a job I had no background in and the place was a stress nightmare. The production floor ran on emergencies all the time and you had nothing but red tape and BS to try to solve a problem with. And when I told recruiters about that place when I was looking for a new job many of them seemed to have known about that company and its bad reputation as a place to work. Some even said they wouldn't send people there.

Hmmm...got canned once. Within six months there was only two people left there who had worked there when I did. Manager demoted, and one part-timer. I told management what the rpoblen was, they refused to listen, refused to transfer me, and canned me. The problem persisted, and the whole place went down the tubes, as I told them. Shrug...guess some don't knbow good advice when they hear it, or have their heads shoved up their collective corporate a-holes and refuse to see where they are going. Ah well....always a job out there if you can stomach it!

I have recently been let go. As a matter of fact, this is my very last week at my job.
An Australian company took over the company I have worked for for almost 6 years.
As the person who handles all the claims and property damage, the company that took over decided they would not need me. That company has a "risk management" department and, instead of keeping me on as part of that department, they are making me sign a release stating that I will not work for this company any more.
I must admit that I feel that I have given 110% to this company for 6 years and now they are just all saying "bye bye Hillary". I am expected to spend my last week here making 'nice nice' for the new company when really all I want to do is leave them a disaster.

I was 'fired' when the boss let his new g/f work for the company (me and the only other girl working there).
Hmmm, can you say "Insecure" "Controlling'" "Manipulative"
Needless to say, this lady ended up having all of her family start working for this guy, firing everyone.
Sucks to be him.

QUOIS? That is a great story! No one wants to work in a place like that. Good for you for standing up not only for yourself, but also for the guests! So glad you told them!!

Fired once, by a wonderful "Mr. Don't" type of clueless general manager.
He asked me to fire a gay employee, because he was gay. He was also one of my best employees, and caused no problems. I told him to fire him himself.
By the time the dust settled, I had a year's pay in my pocket .
The company fired the idiot, a few month later, exactly as I had told him to his face.

Got fired from a factory job for being 6 minutes late due to a major blizzard. I appealed, and was awarded 6 months pay! Could have gotten the job back, but passed on the offer... just took the money and ran back to school!

I've left a job at BK after two months because the "people" atmosphere just wasn't good. Everybody was yelling at somebody, the lunch lines were horrible (not because it was busy, it was because each customer usually had to wait 15-20 minutes for their orders...). Also, the food was not being properly kept. The trays of condiments were not on ice, as they should be (was berated for wasting time when I put ice where it was supposed to be), and they often "faked" in the shelf life for the condiments. (If the mayonaise is supposed to be on ice for 4 hours, he'd have it out for 8 hours, without ice)
I've been fired from a job at Zellers after working there 4 years, mostly due to punctuality issues.

yes when i was eighteen i was fired. i was working as a cook and they got a new head chef. the second or third day he was working he called me stupid and i told him if he ever talked to me like that again i would knock his teeth out of his face. from then on he had it out for me because he couldnt talk down to me which seemed to give him so much pleasure. a week before he was fired for sexual misconduct he took me down with him for a last laugh. oh well

A few years ago there were rumors I was going to a competitor although no one knew for sure. I put 4 weeks' notice in and was fired the next day, stating they were using their "at will" policy. Their dumb asses had to pay me unemployment while I had a month vacation between jobs.
I forgot I had posted in this thread a long time ago, but I mentioned a similar episode. I gave a notice and was fired the next day. The boss in question thought he was screwing me, but in reality it was actually to my benefit. I find it sad that some people in positions of power allow it to go to their head, where they seem to get glee from being a prrick. I have seem similar behavior at other jobs I have had and because of which I would probably never give another notice to a company if I switched jobs. There is no loyalty anymore between employer/employee or vice versa.

Disagreed w/ the way the my idiot of a boss did things and I told him so.
He fired me...and I went to work for their competitor the next week.
Now both companies are closed.
And the world keeps turning.

I was effectively fired (contract not renewed) from a company after a change of management. Had no idea it was coming because we'd had a great year with successful shows (including mine).
The new boss decided he was taking the department in a new direction. Turns out that new direction didn't gel with what HIS bosses wanted and he got fired himself a year after that in spectacular fashion.
All this was cold comfort for me and my family because I lost a great job I was good at because of what amounted to a personality clash with a jerk.

I've asked my boss what I had to do to get fired. I've tried almost everything I could think of and still can't get them to set me free. lol
Things in the "lewd and lascivious" category I won't do so I am sure there are ways but general insubordination and a bad attitude sure hasn't worked yet.

Only once, it was the best thing that could have happened, I had a feeling they were going to fire me due to the backstabbers I worked with, so I got another job with better pay and benefits, did the job interview on my lunchbreak. Found out after we mutually agreed I should leave that they had been secretly training someone to replace me, thankfully I beat them to it.

I got fired from my first job. I was thirteen. I would take people out, on horseback, as a trail guide. The owner was full of himself. He would brag about how he would bang the rich wives of the horse owners. He had a spray can of orange paint. Everything he owned, bridles, saddles, etc..., would get sprayed just a tiny bit, just so you'd know it was his. One day, I found the spray can. I sprayed all of the horse crap around the stable orange.
My message to him: You think you own everything, but all you really own is ........

Trump did fire my aunt cause of her Diabetes. She worked for Buffington Harbor in Indiana on one of his new boats. She said her medical condition did cost her job.

Once, and it was the best thing at that time that could have happened.
They had me doing 2 jobs but paying me for one.
I was the only woman and getting paid well ( in their minds).
I didn't suck up enough for them.
Go for beers after work with the boys club ect.
I took a lunch break, went 2 miles and interviewed for another and got it at 6 grand more a year for less work and less stress but same field.
I admit it felt like I had been kicked in the stomach (asked to resign) no reason given just "you aren't working out".
Fire at will states needs no reason other than someone wants you gone.
They had some brass ones asking me to stay 3 days to help out until they got 2 men to replace me. LOL

Yep, worked in sales for Ford and was fired the first time because I had a slow month and the boss and I didn't get along. That is what got me hired back on the second time by the new boss, lol. I stayed and happily worked there the second go-around until I went back to school.

I was fired from my local public library, back in the day, due to a major personality clash with my boss. She told me I was too uppity for the library, though thats not saying much.
