Jesus, if he ever existed at all, was mostly likely someone who led a revolution against the Romans. Of course he failed and got crucified for his trouble. People like that were common at the time. As for his teachings they weren't all that revolutionary or new. The Golden Rule, for example, was taught by Rabbi Hillel (a Pharisee) long before Jesus was born.

Jesus said that he spoke in parables so people WOULDN'T be saved (Matt 13:10-15). But don't expect your Sunday School teacher to bring that up.

I think that Jesus was an enlightened human being, who tried to tell mankind to love one another.

Matt 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Hello

I just read over some of these responses and I would just like to say that plain and simple yes the Lord Jesus was enlightened and much more. To compare Him with another person or spiritual leader is not of a good understanding of His nature and the nature of human beings in general.

Buddha and Krishna ..those kind of guys , maybe they were great men who had good intentions and thought they had the right way, Jesus was always divine from all eterntiy and He prooved it in many ways that others can't.

{Again, what PROOF is there, (besides the bible tells us so) }

There are many secular non Christian records and sources like the book "Josephus" among other people who tell of events that are accurate and are co-understood with the Biblical accounts themselves.

It envolves alot of history study.

Jesus gets mentioned twice by Josphus.

The first:

About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he was one who wrought surprising feats and was a teacher of such people as accept the truth gladly. He won over many Jews and many of the Greeks. He was the Messiah. When Pilate, upon hearing him accused by men of the highest standing among us, had condemned him to be crucified, those who had in the first place come to love him did not cease. On the third day he appeared to them restored to life. For the prophets of God had prophesied these and myriads of other marvellous things about him. And the tribe of the Christians, so called after him, has still up to now, not disappeared.

However, given that Jospehus was a devout Jew it's beyond all possibility that he actually wrote the above paragraph. The writings of Josephus were handed down by Christians, not Jews, so they had more than enough opportunity to tamper with it.

The second occurance:

Since Ananus was that kind of person, and because he perceived an opportunity with Festus having died and Albinus not yet arrived, he called a meeting of the Sanhedrin and brought James, the brother of Jesus (who is called 'Messiah') along with some others. He accused them of transgressing the law, and handed them over for stoning.

This passage has some problems if it's to be used to support the existence of the Biblical Jesus. Both of the names James and Jesus were common at the time. More importantly, later in the text this Jesus is called the son of Damneus.

There are several other mentions of Jesus by historians, however, they were written so long after the time Jesus was supposed to have lived that they are hardly evidence for his existence.

You make the assumption that devout Jews would not have passed this information down. THat's not true.

I don't make that assumption at all. If Josephus was merely passing down information he would have worded things to make it clear he was doing so. There's a big difference between

A) Goerge Bush used to snort cocaine
and
B) Some allege that George Bush used to snort cocaine.

Josephus was never a Christian so he didn't believe that Jesus was the Messiah or that he rose from the dead. Let us not forget that Josephus was a Pharisee; one of those people that you say rejected Jesus' claims. We're also lucky enough to have Josephus' autobiography. So we know he wasn't a Christian. But since the "Testimonium Flavium" is written as if the writer believed it, rather than just passing on information, then we know that it was a forgery.

Most Jews of that time knew that Jesus was the fulfillment of the prophesies of the Old Testament.

That's highly unlikely since Jesus didn't fulfill a single Messianic prophecy.

Damneus is not a person's name. Son of Damaneus, (damnation or perdition), is an insult, an accusation.

That seems unlikely. However, after rereading the passage I'm not sure that the two Jesuses are the same person. In any case it doesn't even matter. We could assume that the passage is not a forgery and it still wouldn't be evidence for the Biblical Jesus. The word Christ/Messiah means anointed one. Kings and priests were anointed. King Cyrus of Persia, for example, was called Messiah. All the passage means is that there was a guy named James who was the brother of a guy named Jesus who had been anointed. Both were very common names at the time.

There are several other mentions of Jesus by historians, however, they were written so long after the time Jesus was supposed to have lived that they are hardly evidence for his existence.

That's actually untrue. There are artifacts from the first century that clearly speak of the Biblical Jesus.

Such as...?

I discuss the Testimonium Flavius in msg 30. It's a forgery. A badly one done at that.

Native Indians were slaughtered savagely by the white man, this is not the point of the discussion. --- bewitched soul

And native indians slaughtered each other long before the White man came along. They massacred each other in great style and did so for centuries.

Don't try to squeeze the guilt thing around people's neck. It doesn't wash anymore. People can see through that stuff.

I see modern-day indians enjoying ownership of casinos and clubs and what have you. We have come a long way.

Jesus denounces Humans turning the other cheek - Time to kick some ass

Given that most people interpreted it all wrong, Jesus is in the ring sparring.
"They got it all wrong",
Jesus was recorded as stating on 'Hell on Earth' News channel yesterday.

Jesus went further on to say,
"The idiots who wrote that New Testament have me all figured out wrong.
Just cause I restrained myself from strangling most people does not means that I am suggesting to nor condoning any cowardly acts veiled as civil and virtuous."

Jesus further told 'Hell on Earth' News channel that he would be coming out with his own book soon
and that it would be on sale the day that Oprah interviews him on her own special TV appearance offered free and live on the Internet.

Oprah was quoted as saying that Jesus' behaviour 2,000 years ago was more akin to Steven Seagal in his the early movies?
