Night Shift....Page 3 of 4 (1, 2, 3, 4)
ENsomniac Theator, this is when you can no longer sleep at night, I uesd to play on the FORUMS, but of late I have found a way to get to SLEEP...
I eat 2 sleeping pills, consume one Margaita, watch 2 Movies anr read the news, so I get to sleep by 4:AM and to wark by 10;AM it's not perfect, but it's better than NO SLEEP AT ALL...

Last year was killer. After i worked the day shift, i was on call for the night shift. If i thought i might get called out, i would race home. Then i would attempt to do whatever i needed to do. Run errands, read mail, eat, etc. Then i would try my best to be in bed and asleep by 7:00pm. Not all that easy.
Then i would get the dreaded 1:00 am wake up call. And start the whole process all over again.
Pay is good, but i can forget about dating. Or flying. Or anything else.

I'm getting that most folks’ experiences with night shift and dating is that it's very hard to near impossible. I really hope that I have better luck but I have to admit so far it's been tough. I posted a thread in the PoF suggestion forums asking them to consider adding a matching factor for a non-traditional work schedule.
If you guys think that's a good idea show your interest and post up here:
Thanks good luck to all you other day sleeping fishies!

In the middle of a 11p to 11a shift as I type this... Fortunate that my job affords me the opportunity to "entertain" myself, although I am resricted to a sometimes "irritating" Dial Up connection.
Have been doing shift work for the last 33 years and though my shift changes every month, I normally have little trouble adjusting to each change... I think the key, [for me at least] is "regular" aerobic exercise. For those of you who can't sleep/have trouble sleeping, I highly recommend you give it a try.
As to whether I am "normal"? Depends on one's POV I guess!

I've worked the vampire shift for the last 17 years...even when I'm off I've always fallen into the up-at-night schedule.

I use to work many different shifts, one year I changed shifts 7 times, I never knew when to sleep. The worse had to be working 5pm to 5am, seven days a week, now that was killer! During winter you went to work in the dark and came home in the dark, it really messes with your body & brain!

Reset the brain with a bio-brite sunrise clock.
The only alarm clock that wakes you with light, resetting those essential rhythms

I work alot of hours, so any type of relationship is almost impossible. It used to be 2pm- 4or5am, now it is mostly 2p-2a 5 days a week and several weekends. With those kind of hours it is almost impossible to have a social life because you are either sleeping or just relaxing on the few off days. Wish the economy was better because I plan to quit as soon as I find something that offers decent hours.
I don't mind working, but when 60+ hours is a regular week, that is just too much.

I work the 3pm to 11pm shift. I hated it at first but now that I've gotten used to it I think its ok. I love having the days off to spend with my daughters, that is something I am very greatful for. Not to many Dads get to spend thier days with thier kids. And I get extra loot for working nights.

I wouldn't consider 3pm to 11pm a night shift, that's what most would call afternoon shift or evenings. Night shift is when you work all night until the day shift comes on. Usually 7pm to 7am or 11pm to 7pm. I prefer the 8 hr night shift because your "free time" is the same as the day person's and you can spend time together and still go on dates or movies etc.

One of the peeves about working nights is the ditzy friends and family who think you don't need to sleep and either stop over and wake you up or think you can run their errands for them!

~OT~ I worked evenings for many years (on top of a "regular" job.) Now? I can't seem to break the night-time habit. I think it's called insomnia at this stage. I have yet to find a way to "retrain" myself. I've finally given in to the realities: I'm happiest/most energized from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. Oddly, as I've gotten older, the earlier I get up. It's a rare thing for me to get more than 4 hours of sleep all at one time and I rarely dream ~ hmmmm.

in about two weeks or so I'm starting the 7pm to 2:30am shift.

I've been on nights for almost 6 years now, it's really hard on the social life sometimes, not sure how normal I am, but I try. Yes there is a bunch of horny guys on here at that time, just have to look at the funny side of it thou.

Yup, I work a night/day rotation. The worst part is the switching back and forth. And then there are the times when I do the night to day overtimes.. 11:00pm -3:00pm plus 40 min travel time. My record is three of those in a row. I hardly knew my name after that, lol..

When I start working my career in a few months, I'm going to be stuck on Charlie shift for a looong time, since the new guys start out on nights, but that's alright, an awesome job is better than no job.

I've been working some sort of night shift job the past several years... I honestly prefer it though it does have its down sides... (weird sleeping schedules on days off and such...)

I had to go back and check. I DID post to this. Back in 09 while using a dial up connection from work! Work computers were/are off limits. Currently use a 10.5 Samsung tablet from work with Verizon. My, how times have changed.
Currently working my 44th consecutive year of shiftwork counting my Navy time and last year of work period.
So, I have been able to avoid "rubbing elbows with the masses" not to mention battling hordes of clueless drivers for a very long time.
