I would actually give someone money if they were able to discern someone's sign by reading their profile alone.

I'd say to test them, but all you have to do is google what they said and it gives you their profile, with their birthday or sign.

It's so easy to prove wrong, though. If these signs affect someone's personality and how they act, how come so many twins are so different from each other? Shouldn't they both share these traits of that sign?

If something about certain people always put you off, and those traits happen to be from specific zodiacs, even in the workplace, you are noticing that no connection can be had, no matter how they presented themselves from a very beginning. You cannot compromise with such individuals, they are all about themselves, they don't care about you (in your face), everything you say falls on deaf ears, and they considers themselves freaks when in reality they can't even do the basics in a bedroom.

I find this an odd attitude to have towards any group of people. Replace zodiac sign with race/culture/gender and this statement (rightly) falls apart as the simplistic, lazy, and prejudicial attitude that it is.

Um yeah, aka, whether a unicorn exist or not, I want one and therefore it exists to me. I can't make it any clearer than that.

But wait bellevintage.... If the unicorn exists for you, but does not exist for the scientific community - does the unicorn not exist? And who would argue the non-existence of unicorns to anyone who believes in unicorns? And if unicorns exist in any way shape or form to any single person, what purpose would the non-existence of unicorns serve the individual?

So as far as believing or having faith - sometimes its not the question of the validity, but a question of relativity in terms of quality of life.

Or am I just asking you questions at 2 am?

Over the past fifty years, scientists and astrological researchers are discovering a growing body of objective evidence of correlations between celestial positions and terrestrial life. These statistically significant results have been published in peer reviewed journals (including Correlation, a specialist astrological journal). Ironically, some of the strongest evidence has come from experiments backed by sceptical groups including CSICOP.
Vernon Clark's Blind Tests (1951-1970)

There's numerous statistics about correlation and accuracy in that post. Let's say that astrology is accurate 70% of the time. How does that help me when I'm dealing with the other 30%? And how do I know when I'm dealing with the 70% or the 30%? Do I then only treat people depending on their assigned category 70% of the time? How do I treat them the rest of the time?

And when did treating people like humans and individuals go out the window? Is my personality and character simply a semi defined statistical correlation now?

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, I'm also entitled to not care about it.

CTRL,

That's fairly easy to answer. I work at a rehab, and during the years I've been there and in my practice with individuals who have had a break in reality, it doesn't matter if you agree with their hallucinations, their feelings, or ideas. If they tell you they have super powers, who are you to question it? I just dealt with this yesterday and couldn't get out of work till 2am because I sat in my office for hours thinking "how the f*ck do I write about this without getting anyone in trouble? As an administrator who had to do a crisis intervention, how do I cover all basis while remaining within the scope of possibly being called into court if sh*t hits the fan?". I have "duty to warn" if I believe a patient's conviction is such that someone may be in actual harm, but I cannot act upon it until I assess it goes beyond "blowing off steam"........but I digress, I haven't had sufficient sleep yet and I might be called in at any minute to further explain my intervention..

The point is that everyone's reality differs due to their particular set experiences in life, how they process/cope with the good and the bad, their critical thinking skills or lack thereof, to the degree that one is forced to learn to discriminate/make choices. So I agree that the "validity" is not what's really the question, but if referring to quality of life, another subjective item, then it greatly depends on ones assessment of what quality of life is and that which is thought to enhance it.

I'm functioning at 4 hours of sleep at this point, so pardon me if none of what say makes sense, I think I'm trying to point to the conclusion that whatever we believe allows us to function in greater society, remain sane to some extent (or such that poses no harm to others), then that which allows for us to "keep it together" is unique to each individual.

The thought of a unicorn, allows for me to function in society and enhances my quality of life. And by unicorn, I'm not referring to the mystical creature, but to an ideal.

Yeah context and individuality - that's a goodun'

I can't imagine a sleep deprived belle over a smiley belle

One of those situations where you find yourself damned - if it were me, in that case, I would simply gather up the relevant information regarding mental health, in context to the statement - and that way if you get called you can always throw the psychiatrist under the bus.....

What do you mean by old school wrestling on your profile? You mean wrestling as a sport?

It's all been taken care of, so no worries.

Old school wrestling for me is 80s and 90s, when WWF, WCW, and other entities existed, when the drama was entertaining but not malicious, before they got people's wives involved, before a wrestler was pushed on top of his pregnant wife, resulting in a miscarriage. I stopped watching wrestling on that day.

So the era of Shawn Michaels and Bret Heart, is old school wrestling but so are the days on Andre the Giant, Roddy Piper, macho man, sting, rick flair, the Undertaker (when you were not able to see his face), the British bulldog, Steve Austin, when triple HHH was spelled out and he was skinny, etc.

Oh ok yeah, that's awesome, and yeah they were kind of running out of material since the 80's. I've never been a huge fan of the performance arts myself, too scripted - I prefer my performances be improvised.

I also prefer the old style of wrestling. They actually had characters instead of trying to be like the UFC. Jake the Snake actually had a snake that bit people. The Undertaker looked like a mortician and put people in body bags. The Big Boss Man had handcuffs and a nightstick. I find the characters really boring now. It's less "fun" than it used to be. I was also younger when I watched it, but it seemed a lot more fun, almost like the glam rock bands of the 80's.

If you know who Gene Kiniski is, that is how far back I go. I think everything changed for me when Roddy Piper's ear was bitten off. I remember my (adoptive) mom and I staring at the old style wooden box tv on the floor, seeing Roddy grabbing his bitten ear, blood everywhere.
My (biological) mother dated one called The Brute aka Bugsy McGraw. As a three year old, I was sitting on his lap, brushing his beard lol.
Ahhh the days.

You surprise me Belle :)

I used to love wrestling.
I saw Haystack Calhoun and the Masked Bolo
and the Mountain Man several times.

Those guys really weren't into being in shape,
but they were awesomely fun to watch.

Haystack seemed like someone you would LOVE to have as an uncle.

Wonder if he's scorpio? <----staying on topic :P

Aquarius make you want them, they don't invite people to get them.

If they felt they were running out of material, then it was time to call an entertainment consultant, lol. They made something very entertaining, innocent, and fun, into some soap opera inviting adult situations into the mix. I watched as a child who didn't need to be exposed to that sort of crap, and last time I saw a live wrestling was about a year ago in MSG, and STILL lots of children into it. So they need to clean it up for sake of entertainment and for the sake of the children watching.

I'm not sure when the media figured out that drama increases ratings, but no real drama is needed in wrestling other than having a good guy and a bad guy.

I miss the days in which Shawn Michaels and Diesel would take up a whole 10-15 minutes to talk sh*t about wrestling itself while having the heart-shaped bed in the ring, and crap about one of the wrestlers, then mysteriously the opponent would show up "undetected", they clean up the ring, and start the wrestling match.

Or when the Undertaker had a coffin on the sidelines, everything would be pitch dark, you couldn't see his face (not even during the match, and if you ever caught a glance, his eyes would be rolling back), when there was sentimental value to the urn, and the intro was super creepy. I'm into horror so all creepy stuff is appealing, lol.

I don't care if it's scripted, it was about building imaginary alliances with wrestlers, learning their signature moves, hating their opponents, watching the matches carefully for anything interfering (making the match unfair), having the judges talk crap while the match is on, watching for anyone in the public getting hit by accident or helping out their favorite wrestler (I saw a kid kick a wrestler to help his favorite one win, lol). It's all fun for me, watching these manly men who look hot as hell, beat the crap out of each other, sweat, breathe, talk sh*t, take off their clothes, dance, etc. I'm watching and thinking well hot damn, if he can pick up another wrestler and man-handle him, goodness gracious what he could do to me *blushing*

I never thought they were going UFC, but I see what you're saying. It looked more "skilled" back then than what it is now. The matches used to last longer, now it looks like a 1-4 minute deal.

I never saw the snake bite anyone, I'm gonna have to look at the archives, lol. I definitely agree that the characters now lack depth and personality. Yep, glam rock bands!!!!

I'm waiting for it to take an awesome turn so I can once again make plans around their schedule, let my Mondays be raw again damn it!!!! lol, and Smackdown, and ladder matches, and last man standing, and all that good stuff.

What girl? He was the bee's knees! so manly. Roddy Piper had his ears bitten off? What? What!!!!! I just googled it and didn't get any useful results, I'm gonna have to do some more digging. I remember blood all over but not from a bite, wasn't it a chain that hit him?

You got to brush a wrestler's hair? I envy you now, I've been trying to cross paths with Shawn Michaels but I never know where he's at, lol, I'm gonna send him a message through facebook and see what he says, lol.

You surprise me Belle :)

IronClast - I hear you about Cancer guys....my ex of 20 years is a Cancer. The moodiness is what drove me crazy, and yes, the passive-aggressive streak as well. He was very nurturing though, like a mother hen, but in a smothering way, which does not jive with my independent Aquarian side at all. It felt overbearing and controlling to me. He was also Virgo rising and very nit-picky and critical about everything I did or didn't do. He even kept check lists about how often I would or wouldn't do certain things, like lock the doors at night, etc. Crazy!!

You DO realize that because of Earth's axis, the fact that stars and planets move, the fact that the other planets in our solar system have their own orbits not affected by Earth's, means that the over the 3,000 years, where the sun rises and sets and other planets pass in relation to these constellations have changed? If ANYTHING has an effect on a person's personality, it would be the time of year they're born, not their astrological sign since these signs are NOT going to be the same for eternity. The only constant is where the earth is in relation to the sun for that time of the year.

This "science" is also based on an Earth-centric universe where everything is revolving around us.

But let's ignore all of this... Explain how two twins can have completely opposite personalities?

This thread is no different from assuming that all black people are going to steal from your store.

Horoscopes should be entertainment, not something you'd ever base a decision on. I wouldn't base any romantic or other life decisions on Mean Girls or Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure either. It's kind of funny how male cancers are supposed to be passive aggresive, but I'm a male cancer and I'm no more passive aggressive than the man in the moon. You're right about the contellations being off by now. We're off by one complete sign, so I would be Gemini now. I guess I have to develop a split personality or I won't fit the mold.

Everybody has religious beliefs yet still, most of the haters on here,
aren't pestering them about their beliefs. State your opinion and stop harassing people about
what they find interesting or not :/

Because there's a difference between adhering to a belief system for guidance and spirituality, and using a belief system to justify hatred. If someone came here and started spouting about how all non-believers are evil and deserve to be treated like sh*t (or worse), darn right they should get harassed.

I actually do find astrology somewhat interesting. All the signs have pros and cons, and the compatibility matches are usually all about the yin and yangs of life. It's not about such and such a sign is good or that other sign is evil. It can make for some interesting reading and sometimes kinda fun. It becomes a problem when people take it literally and allow it to rule their lives, taking it to extremes, using it to justify lazy and irresponsible behaviour, just like some use religion to justify their hatred of others. Generally, humanity has been trying to grow up past these kinds of superficial prejudices.

Ok everyone is entitled to an opinion but the thread is all about whether you agree or disagree with
the fact that astrology is real. Everybody has religious beliefs yet still, most of the haters on here,

what they find interesting or not :/

stick to the thread's question, if your not going to do that then go away

Do you like it when people say that you're irresponsible, and useless, and very likely a criminal because you're black? Well I don't like being told that I'm manipulative and possessive because I was born in November. If you want to make these claims, be ready to have that belief attacked. Do you really expect us to all just sit back while everyone brings up stereotypes about them?

So, sex, religion, gay/straight, race, we don't stereotype, birthday, say whatever the hell you want about the person? OK, got it.

What's the difference between an astrologer saying someone with astrological sign A should avoid people with sign B or C, and a racist who says people from culture A should avoid people from cultures B and C? If a white supremacist says white people should avoid all non-white people because of the way the stars and planets are aligned, how many people would buy that logic? Unfortunately, it would seem like a lot of people would believe it, since it's human nature to need to believe in the supernatural.
