Well i havent had a reason to feel bad in a while, but there is a song that brings tears to my eyes, and i dont even know what the words are.

just the way the music is composed, and the singers voice...just goes right through me and tears apart any effort i make of trying to act tough.

i dont know the name...its by KT Tunstall....let me look it up

Its called Heal Over

Wow. I have thought of doing that very same thing myself in the past.

For me, a mourning song that brings me to my knees when going thorugh a break up is Steve Earle's "Goodbye's All We Got Left to Say" - a rocky little number off the "Essential Steve Earle" CD. It'll make you cry, but at the same time, will keep you rocking, which is a good thing.

Prairie Oyster's "Everybody Knows" from their CD of the same name (one of my all-time faves) is an excellent mourning song. The rest of the CD is up-beat for the most part.

Another mourning song is James Blunt's "Goodbye my Lover" from his "back to bedlam" CD. Now this song can make you spiral into a deep depression if you think about the words too much, which is neither a good nor sane thing to do if you're already sad. The rest of this CD is awesome.

As far as uplifting songs go, I don't have any favourites that come to mind. For me, most music is uplifting anyway, regardless of the genre.

Cheers!

I have started something similar myself and have some suggestions, though some of the bands aren't US mainstream. Music is the voice of the soul, and it seams to beable to speak for me better then my own words sometimes.

CD1 -
Never Walk Alone - Megadeth
I'll Cry for You - Edguy
Melancholy (Holy Martyr) - Iron Savior
The Longest Day - Firewind

CD2-
Riding through Hell - Heavenly
Blessed Are You - Iron Savior
You have Survived - Firewind
Tyranny - Firewind
Unchained - Iron Savior

Let us know what you finally choose for you CDs.

One of the most beautiful songs I have heard that is about mourning, pain, and strength to get through is "Held" by Natalie Grant... It is an amazing powerful song... Lyrics:

Two months is too little.
They let him go.
They had no sudden healing.
To think that providence would
Take a child from his mother while she prays
Is appalling.
Who told us we’d be rescued?
What has changed and why should we be saved from nightmares?
We’re asking why this happens
To us who have died to live?
It’s unfair.
Chorus:
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved.
And to know that the promise was
When everything fell we’d be held.
This hand is bitterness.
We want to taste it, let the hatred know our sorrow.
The wise hands opens slowly to lillys of the valley and tomorrow.
(Chorus)
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved.
And to know that the promise was
When everything fell we’d be held.
Bridge:
If hope is born of suffering.
If this is only the beginning.
Can we not wait for one hour watching for our Savior?
(Chorus)
This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive.
This is what it is to be loved.
And to know that the promise was
When everything fell we’d be held.

CD Number 2:
Eminem - Lose Yourself
I never liked him till I heard that song. You have to respect him for his insight and being so determined to make something of himself from those beginnings. It's inspiring.

"Gloomy Sunday" by Rezső Seress (popularized by Billie Holiday) has become somewhat of an urban legend because of its unusual history and deeply stirring lyrics and melody.

A scene from the "White Oleander" novel that sticks in my mind is when ordinarily submissive Claire begins to believe her husband is cheating and immediately commands Astrid to play Leonard Cohen.

For inspiration in a forward direction how about "Dreams" by the Cranberries or Beethoven's 9th Symphony.

I totally agree... the song "Goodbye My Lover" by James Blunt is a totally heart wrenching song and a perfect song for mourning. I just recently suffered a breakup and this is the only song I listened to for days. Now I think I'm ready to move on..........

GOODBYE MY LOVER
James Blunt

Did I disappoint you or let you down?
Should I be feeling guilty or let the judges frown?
'Cause I saw the end before we'd begun,
Yes I saw you were blinded and I knew I had won.
So I took what's mine by eternal right.
Took your soul out into the night.
It may be over but it won't stop there,
I am here for you if you'd only care.
You touched my heart you touched my soul.
You changed my life and all my goals.
And love is blind and that I knew when,
My heart was blinded by you.
I've kissed your lips and held your head.
Shared your dreams and shared your bed.
I know you well, I know your smell.
I've been addicted to you.

Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.

I am a dreamer but when I wake,
You can't break my spirit - it's my dreams you take.
And as you move on, remember me,
Remember us and all we used to be
I've seen you cry, I've seen you smile.
I've watched you sleeping for a while.
I'd be the father of your child.
I'd spend a lifetime with you.
I know your fears and you know mine.
We've had our doubts but now we're fine,
And I love you, I swear that's true.
I cannot live without you.

Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.

And I still hold your hand in mine.
In mine when I'm asleep.
And I will bear my soul in time,
When I'm kneeling at your feet.
Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.
I'm so hollow, baby, I'm so hollow.
I'm so, I'm so, I'm so hollow.

Just about anything by Chris Isaak, Evanessence, a few by Pat Benetar, cetain Linkin Park and #rd Eye Blind and MOST definately Audioslave "Highway" or "Like a stone". And who does that song "Pain"? God, I have it on my cell phone, I should know... "Pain- can't get enough, Pain- cuz I like it rough, ...Cuz I'd rather feel pain than NOTHIN' at all" Doesn't that describe 98% of us at least once in our lives?

Chris Isaak " Wicked Game "

The world was on fire
No one could save me but you.
Strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you

No, I don't want to fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
No, I don't want to fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
With you
With you

What a wicked game you play
To make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do
To let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say
You never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do
To make me dream of you
v And I don't wanna fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
And I don't want to fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]

{World was on fire
No one could save me but you
Strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you
I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you

No I don't wanna fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart
No I don't wanna fall in love
[This love is only gonna break your heart]
With you
With you
