From afar under bright sun near a budding flower,
I feel as though I am in my mothers womb,
That feeling of being embraced by the warmth of the sun.

From under this majestic tree I sit,
The soft gentle breeze touches my face,
As if someone trying to comfort me from my fears.

Why is what we call today filled with so much pain?
I am lost. . .
My role in this life, I seek.

I am without faith,
While you have known and spoken to God,
I have yet to speak or know Him.

Haunted by my past,
I can see the pain I have caused,
I cry, I weep, I beat my chest.

And for the first time,
I am compelled, I fall to my knees,
Words never uttered, they are now spoken.

I seek redemption. . .

Thanks for starting this thread Lioness. I really appreciate a place to put some of these. I'm just starting to write again after an 18 year break - so I've not been putting metre or rhyme in my work yet...


My soul stood before a doorway in time
A dark arch from which my past was
Connected to my present by a gossamer thread
And eighteen years distance is shortened
To an instant, a singularity of moment

And the stars spin in the heavens
The same stars, a mere cosmic breath older
Less than a heartbeat of the universe past
But for me, fragile and human, it seems more
Than a lifetime ago.

And I watch the stars come clear
And I speak of my love lost
And the shakespearean tragedy of my youth
She rubs her warm hands across
My belly, so familiar.

And suddenly I am sitting on a stump
In a park, the songful whispers of leaves
A symphony of memory in my mind
And her thighs wrap around my waist
Her eyes bear into me, lightening in my gut.

Bit I am on a stoop, my shirt
A pillow for my weary head
And the girl is not the same either
But the melancholy and hurt are just as real
And the same breath of wind gusts in the leaves.

A score of years of peace lie
Like a blanket on my beating heart
And my soul across the thread of time
Trembles but does not shatter, for
The feelings are tamer, tranquil cousins.

And though the songs of my youth
Stir up the ocean floor of memories
And whirl wrecks and flotsam about
Yet still the tempest is far away
In a distant corner of my heart.

I shall wait in peace a while
For her heart is broken, and the mending
Is complex and hard to bear
But I shall be here for her at last
A lover or a friend or both, as she will.

Just another one. I felt melancholy this day:

So Slowly the Pain

So slowly did the pain wash away
That I might question it at all
So did my love for you die
Or was there ever love, true love?

But I know I felt the pain
Tear my flesh away
Bit by terrifying bit I saw
So slowly, so gentle, almost not

Where was there a chance for us?
When was the moment we have lost
When a change of word or deed might
Undo all that we have done?

So slowly did the pain wash away
That my tears are for the memories
Of the pain that should have been
Not for the pain of the memories I have lost

Had a great night dancing at Club 54 yesterday.


Jumping up as the song started
The music took me away
Spirit settling into a rhythm
Eyes shut, body swaying, thought gone
Sensations of dancing to the same song
In youth come and fill the soul with peace
And an epiphany of happiness

The moment became all there was
The feeling of the floor shaking
Bass filling guts with delicious ripples
And the other dancers vanished except
Those other ones who flowed into music
Also hardly noticing anyone around

Kindred spirits of this perfection they are
Making the connection to the beat stronger
As their bodies also blend into the song
And they lose themselves in the moment
Which melts into another song, and another
Until finally too exhausted to continue, I stop.

Thanks so much Lioness. I just have the bug now. It was gone for a LONG time - hopefully this time it lasts longer. I'm glad you like my metaphore and simile. One of these days I'll care about the meter too ;-)

You guys are kind. I always feel better when I think the meter through more carefully thou. I used to do that when I was in my teens and writing (I need to find my journals :-( Maybe I'm over thinking.

When I write something with emotion and feeling, it's a release - but if it comes out as a stream of consiousness it makes me feel like I'm sharing my mindless emotional vomit (yeach - I haven't even had breakfast lol)

Lovers and Friends
Lovers and Friends

Today the wires came uncrossed
And the feelings that were blocked
Came to the surface and sat
In the place where feelings live

It is so easy for one to doubt oneself
And believe that feelings are fleeting
Or that any one could bring them forward
Although the truth is close enough to touch

When the day was over the feelings
Finally felt real, but the same as before
Not the product of fantasy and loneliness
But legitimate, honest and beautiful

At least as real and beautiful as they can be
When felt by a damaged soul
Feelings of affection, attraction and lust
That border on that other emotion

The Lioness

In the jungle fair and golden
The lioness does stalk
And although proud and tall she is
Still emptiness does mock

For even the golden lioness
In majestic strength so fierce
A heart of flesh and blood she has
Though she never sheds a tear

"The emptiness is but fleeting"
I say, to her silhouette so fine
"One will come who honours you"
But she has passed me by

Love your soul shall know
My huntress fair and dear
Like the suns warm face she comes
To boon your life with cheer

Before Today

The music drifts across the space between
and fills me with soulful musings
of the days before today
when she would hurt and stifle me
but I cannot blame, for my heart stayed
and my life went on, comfortable and imprisoned
within my honour and bravery and apathy
but days that passed, and weeks, and years
gave me dreams of a future not empty
that today I stand before the days to come
seeing a future with someone who cares and feels
the same as I, who says to me words I have longed for
to touch me and hold me as a woman holds a man
and feels my hurt when my heart aches
and feels my joy when my soul sings

tonight i sat in contemplation
of our former infactuation
my mind wafted in the agony
memories of kisses gone by

music dredges up the darkness
and turns my thoughts to loss
i wonder if it was his face you saw
as your bites made my lips so raw

if ever i know you again
my heart will be stone hard
but your soft body will melt
armour that guards how i felt

tonight melancholy and pain
have come to visit me again
but i will embrace them because

You know the truth,
you know a heartbeat in a pulse.
The physiology of a body,
the soul connected in time.

Where could I love you,
if only as a friend, or more.
A love so strong, given in strength,
when tomorrow and today are inverse.

A world not upside down,
then reality can estrange.
For my time is in front,
yet your day is one ahead of mine.

Sweet dreams and sweet love,
a shield and a sword.
But never a true pain to endure.
Some say “love”, I say more.

Echoes of the past

Echoes chase there own memory of it's sound till it comes back and becomes what it is.
carbon copy noises that live within it's slow demise it falls back on us like a faded anxiety,
We hear it again and realize it means less
the source carries the meaning and the return only reminds us that it should not have been spoken aloud.

Night of Never
11 October 2007

The dark night of my soul,
an emptiness from inside.
A place to walk in passion,
her kiss held softly from afar.

Like a nectar of kindness,
an uncertainly shelved.
Tranquillity, bliss, happiness,
was there ever a reality to ponder.

A ship capsized upon an ice blue sea,
the ocean barren and lifeless.
Yet I waltz to the light, a shimmer,
hope was around the corner of morrow

To know I want to change,
and realize in her this will be.
An impossible beginning,
or never land, her ocean by the sea.
