Child eyes spotted...grasshopper.
Old, resolute,non-committal man
bent with her, investigated
Looked around, hesitated
A wild cackle erupted
Overhead the skies parted.
Rain moved in.

I love how this unexpected, seemingly irrelevant detail of the sudden rain frames this photo! Thanks.

Waiting for the supermarket to open
I catch sight of two
antithetical characters:
a mousy looking woman
whose clothes seem intended
to make her, as much as possible,
invisible,
and a man with a scowl
and a five-o’clock shadow
that reaches from the neck of his t-shirt
to his dark, bushy eye-brows.

Ah! bushy eyebrows
Shifted his foot.
Mousy looking woman
fixed hair problems, grabbed
colour on her frame.
eyebrows cut that bloody onion
into the chicken pie to rival
silly Martha Stewart who never
hit the wrong look place, dollars
escaped her silly sense of ..oh heck...ethics
Oooh and myself
I scurried. What is the grade? And heck why?

Thank-you for your site.

60to 70: What a delight to read this next chapter of my little vignette! Your recurrent presence here helps to make this a home instead of a long, narrow hallway!

Adrian invites himself
to join me at my table
along with his Modern Library Edition
of The Works of Plato
and we have a good
mind-banging discussion
of consciousness, reality
and psilocybin mushrooms
in the cold, bracing
morning air

And the common good
Restored!Here all
breathed easier, here
all feet felt air, not resistance
Mind-banging and bracing air
Shot to the sun an ordinary day.

I love it when these seem to leap out at one, sort of like a cough before you have the chance to cover your mouth!

At the Snowdon Deli,
at the table across the aisle from mine,
a customer receives his smoked meat,
lean, no mustard,
and a plate piled high with fries,
and immediately attacks them both
like a man on a mission

Dearest, dearest friend! You must have been there watching me from the next booth! You omitted the 2nd kasha knish however that I also brought back with me and is in the fridge right now should you miraculously drop by!

I will hold words
Will not sneeze
Ordinarily dislike kasha
European mother insisted
On religious days.

Plato and his republic
should re-visit, all
should speak and entertain
visions, ideals and realms of wonder.
Beginning with man.. face in his food.

Ode to Kasha!

Oh, 60to 70, heed these heartfelt words:

Kasha will comfort you
when you are down,
when your best friend
behaves in a way
that cuts you to the core,

when some man you desire
turns his head
to gaze at some “cutie”
walking by,
kasha will comfort you!

Kasha won’t let you down!
Won’t deceive you, won’t
pretend to be some other grain
but will always
be kasha - to the max!

Take bread,...toast.
fill frying pan 1" deep with
milk...drop in bud of butter.
Heat, quickly slice favourite cheese
Coming to a boil, milk bubbles
immediately drop in the cheese!
Surreal, melted..
Toast on plate.
Surreal over toast
Celebrate.(could add some pepper) (choose black or white)
Love when men gaze the cuties..
Women's eyes gaze in the same frequency.

Do not eat too often!!!

Thanks for the recipe, 60to 70, and have you ever had Matso Brei (some call it "Matso Fry," but I don't go to their synagogue - or any other for that matter!). Take 1 or 1 1/2 sheets of matso, break it/them up into a colander, pour boiling water over, then wring out the matso. Beat up an egg and soak the matso in it then fry in oil or butter. Do NOT wait for Passover!

for all caring members here to send PMs to CdnReader (Donna) who has been admitted to hospital with some very worrisome conditions. She is alone, having just recently moved to Halifax, NS, to begin a PhD programme and won't see your messages until - hopefully - she's well enough to resume accessing the internet but I'm confident she'd be enormously cheered by any words of caring she receives from you.

Thanks, Jerry

Here at Loblaw’s
there is no agora
but the faux-tiled floor
of the fast-food area

where descendants of Plato
and Plotinus gather
to chew the fat in rapid, demotic Greek.

The stuff that they and I eat
bears some sort of resemblance
to actual food, about as much,
I guess, as their small talk does
to The Republic

What I meant is how do you send a message to the lady you mentioned who was in crisis. How do I send her a message??? So.

Loblaws...comfort...history
Exacts in close quarters, never wide
Bless their small talk and their small talk
reflects Plato's dictum....talk enlivens cities
talk, talk, and love and love
equal measures of high and low
If you go, go desperately and righteously right
Idream they will defend the high, rather than low
My jaundiced eye cries for sight.

The short Oriental man
who slip-slops daily
past my house, pauses,
while the little girl beside him
–black, black bowl-cut hair
–fiddles with the catch
of her wind-breaker.
He has nothing but patience

Short stature
Magnifico heart, educated eye.

“$1.39,”
the billboard reads:
“double cheese-burger.”

I walk by, wondering
how they can make it so cheap
and so nasty

I saw a sign on a cafe window
One day while in a small town
The sign read Ho-Made Pies
I thought to myself
This must be their day job
