I imagine eyes
everyone has eyes
I imagine hearts
spelling each, every difference
I cannot imagine why I ever lived
without you.
Happy new year..let the ponds freeze.

when she gave him
that last cup...it was tea
truly she never understood
why. either should die.
the first time she saw him.
she actually stood beside him...
she smelled her children
in his body.
when she took any time
to understand
what he always knew.
she had heard it was bad.
but it was horrible
exempting all and every stumble
they stumbled frequently.
when she understood that all dies.
She rose to every sorrow.
Today....she left...knowing every sorrow
coupled, joined, woven into a fabric.
Life is often short and poignant.
She is an ideal short of perfect.

There is no religion in heaven,
I conjecture, nor any prayers
except for breath
and breathing.

The Yoga instructor told me to breathe
release everything else in my mind
focus on the breath
she didn't know he was my life...

It's like an obstacle set
not a field, just this step
I want to take
Breathing never freed me
up for what came next.
I am going to crawl up
into my nest, can you come?
can you forget I am frequently mortal
filled with ...give me the words.
Hey babe, lets laugh together
lets get out into the summer rain
lets forget every flippin restriction
dance me my friend, lover, stranger
into meaning. It comes, oh it came.
Every time.

Many thanks, Revoskeepus and 60t070: I've made a couple of changes in that poem since I posted it. It should nowread:

There is no religion in heaven,
I think, nor any prayers
other than breath
and breathing.

God: an etymological conjecture
Posted: 2/24/2011 6:32:42 AM
God created language
last of all and we might wonder
why. Was it because words
mattered less than mangoes,
aardvarks, tribes
or tribal enmity?

Was there no love
before there was language?
No mother, father,
daughter, son
before we had the words
to designate them?

I think not, or rather,
I think we cannot know.
God, after all, has ninety-names
and none.

An evil blister
squats upon the land.
The little people
–smaller every day
–thrash around beneath it.
Beneath it.

Measure your worth by the number you love.
Those who love you
are free to do the same
if they wish, but that is not the point..
To love is the most quiet thing you can do.

There is no clamour in love.
It is not proof
of anything.

What do you with middle
of August?
A full moon refusing definition
of round, circular...just a fat egg.
What would I do with August
next year?
Full moons need calculation
I need to know the color of your eyes.

Measure your life by the loving memories created...either for yourself..or for others you encounter...though loving remembrances can also be created with mere words.or even a well intended silence.....without the personal contact required in the past...this site is living proof of that....though i believe it's a loss for the soul this way..

I believe in the laughing word,
the sighing word
the word with tears
The word with eyes and ears
The word with breath and flesh
The word that soars and sings
The word that prays and laments

Tear from me my soul should not
The word hear my pain
Nor share my joy
Anywhere the word appears
Is sanctuary
Hearth
Flame
erasing the dark
Oh yes, the word has eyes
To see beyond cold language
Oh I believe the word snatches
The fires of heaven
And makes gods of mere mortals

I proved I loved you
not in actions
not in reactions
not in denial
what lived
is why I had
to love you
very well
over many years
under many suns
a few full moons
and a scattering of smiles
why I loved you
is besides any point
I loved you
kripes, I had too.
I had no choice.

A heavy-set black woman,
swathed in winter clothes,
takes each step
as if it were measured
to the millimetre
then turns in
to her place of paid servitude.

The steps I take
are measured in pain
and the desire to never stop
walking.
My cane
is my best friend
a constant companion
strong
as long as I can hold it
Please
leave me that dignity.

Long time Jer....much to tell.....

Pickles...nice. And. Jerry ...nice. Oh thats a silly word. Love both of them. I also have a walking cane given as a gift from a younger individual. Love it. Her dad made it and it has had many a child hanging on while we walk our particular distances.

I watch my neighbour’s son
on his way to school
without his older brother.
His shoulders hunch
toward each other
as if to keep his loneliness close.
