I've posted this on another thread as well (You, I and Life) ...

The Old TV (copyrighted)

Of the items in the store,
All were second hand
I picked out an old TV,
With a walnut stand

One side was badly scratched
Two knobs were missing too
But that’s not the story
I’m about to tell to you

T’was about the second week
Of the TV at my place
Sitting there against the wall
Near the old staircase

I recall the night was late
As I readied me for bed
When I turned the TV off,
Its’ screen … it turned blood red

The appearance caused a start
I gasped a gulp of air
I couldn’t turn my gaze away
I stood right there and stared.

Then a low murmuring
From deep within the set
Cold chills ran over me
I’ve not forgotten yet

A voice, low and menacing
Containing graveled rasps
I could not then stop again
My involuntary gasp

I stood there mesmerized
My gaze remained transfixed
Emotions racing through me
And all of them were mixed

The Voice on the other side
Of the blood red TV screen
Issued a command to me
So ominous and mean:

“Place your hand upon the screen
And repeat these words to me,
Where you are right now,
Is where I need to be”.

I felt my arm move upward
Powerless to resist
I felt a burning in my palm
As the TV screen it kissed

I heard a voice and realized
The speaker it was me:
“Where you are right now,
Is where I need to be”.

As the words transmitted,
I could feel a change
Overwhelming me.

As I stared in disbelief
My hand – it disappeared
Absorbed into the blood red screen
As the burning onward seared …

Through my wrist, up my arm
The hotness I could feel
Inward was I screaming
Not believing this was real!

In reflection from the screen
I was being pulled into
I saw a face, and screamed inside:
“That horrid face is YOU!”

The rapid assimilation continued then
All feelings were extinguished
And all was calm and still

Now here I sit deep inside
This computers’ TV screen
If ‘tis a disturbance that you feel
Sharply, and very keen

Just place your hand up on the screen
And read these words to me:
“Where you are right now,
Is where I need to be”.

Happy Birthday Bobby
though rhyming's not my hobby
I checked this on a whim
so I'll go out on a limb
and wish you a special day
where everything goes your way
I even made it rhyme
I did it one more time (whew!)

brothers 1/06/07

none knows of our essential unity
distancing themselves with impunity
makes me long for worldwide mutiny
just to spite Big Brothers scrutiny

pandered to by advertisers
talked down to by supervisors
underpaid by management
working hard won't make a dent

standing with their palms held out
they'll get paid without a doubt
if we don't have any left
after all their corporate theft
we can't depend on government
to help us out on paying rent

but many times a friendly neighbor
will do someone substantial favor
it's always met with stunned surprise
and thankfulness within their eyes

I love that we still help each other
accept the fact we all are brothers
held under by anothers hand
share cropping in our own land

As One

So … here it is: My two cents
(I know that’s not much recompense
For using up this space and time
With this, my lowly rhyme.)

But … in this published poetry
I’ve read rhymes of majesty
Too, I’ve read some words from whence
I can simply make no sense

But making sense of what they write
Reflects only on my insight
And does not diminish - in any way
What it is they have to say

And in these pages as I drift
I read poets who have “The Gift”
In shock and awe do I read
And now I find I must concede:

Good or bad, short or long,
All these poets sing their song
All can see, there is NO doubt
‘Tis from their hearts these words ring out

So, I’ll not read them critically
For who the hell am I to be
In judgment of a poets heart
Of what’s inside which they impart

They open paths for their purvey
For they must say what they have to say
In their hearts they write As One
And to all I say: Wow! Well done!

The real deal 12/12/07

but this time with someone real
perhaps the magic just may last
Sometimes I don't know how to deal
with smoking wreckage from the past

I want to trust in future plans
when faith exists it's easy
but failures mentioned by my clan
make me feel rather queasy

but I step forward anyway
I have to trust and live with heart
not for me the pinched and gray
with wonder I will make my start

who loves me best will let me be
the spirit I have always been
and give me freedom to be me
a game of love we both can win

So I can read, and post and spend
a lot of time with those I love
and satisfaction won't depend
on timely dinners with my stove

I hope he'll love me anyway
when blurry I look up from book
and see the day I let go by
and food that I forgot to cook

I'll write a poem just for him
and light some candles by the bed
the sweetness in that darkened room
will have to feed instead

This one turned out nice......Bobby, I want to thank you for opening up a dam I didn't even know I was holding back. I used to write years ago, but doubting my talent, I stopped. Sometimes we are crueler to ourselves than anyone else would ever be, judging ourselves harshly. I may still be lacking in talent (not fishing for compliments but being truthful) however, since I have been writing a poem or two a day, obviously there is a voice that needs to get out. And I feel much better, I had no idea I missed writing so much! Again, thanks, and thanks to the people in this thread for your support of each other.

2006 is gone forever
Will it return? Never!
Day follows day in quick succession
Easter eggs in shops already, what a procession
What was it we "had to have", wasn't it a recession?

God 1/13/07

that night a thousand years ago
above the far flung cosmos glow
echoed by tiny lightning bugs
as above, so below

think of trees with branches spread
then narrow down with trunk that's fed
by roots that burrow underground
whose food is leaves that fell off dead

some find their god within four walls
but there I've never heard his calls
give me the trees, and bugs and sky
I hear his footsteps down those halls

My Path of Tears

I know I can think with my head,
I've never been known to be brain dead.
My feet take me where I want to go
My heart leads me way down this road
I know where I want to be
in the country,on a mountain top
or down by the sea,
I will not give up, nor will I stop
until I find the one for me
when love comes easily and is free
but someday I will find it my dear
until then I will keep head clear
never looking back, but ahead
A soft worn trail I will tread.

Squandered and Overdosed©

‘Tis the one thing most all of us shun
We don’t think of it until there is none
And then, of course, it’s always too late
You can’t get it back, there’s no rebate:

We flit from home – to fun – to job
For more entertainment: Just turn a knob.
If a relationship’s gone to the bad
No need to fret – another can be had

If your job sours, n’ your car has shot craps
Get a new job, and a new car, perhaps.
All of these things are normal, I guess
But within them all we never address …

The time it takes, as it’s frittered away.
There’s always tomorrow – we say today,
But comes a day in our life - a time -
When all sense of reason, all sense of rhyme

Has no more meaning, for Time will be gone,
We’ll wonder what we spent it upon
Desperately we’ll want amends to be made
To those who helped us along our parade

Thanking all our kin-folk and friends
They, too, may be gone, for Time finds its’ ends
To all living things, to all lifes’ events
It stops abruptly – it knows not suspense.

For those who have youth and vitality
Don’t spend your time so absently
Think of things that matter to you
For Time goes on, and the seconds accrue.

And if you’re not careful, and not paying heed
There won’t be the time you may desperately need
When comes a day you’ll need the Time most
And find you’ve already in Time overdosed.

The curates wife

the story of the love affair
that had terrorized the land
the confession that the curates wife
was killed by the bishops hand!

So long ago they found her dead
folk had near forgotten
if she'd only shunned the bishops bed
for he was truly rotten

'twas a long forgotten mystery
who'd killed the curates wife
but now it leapt from history
to wreck the bishops life

they sent him down to Londontown
to a jury of his peers
he'd been a man of great renown
too rich for petty fears

but now he'd pay for his own sin
the townsfolk threatened riot
the sheriff forced to bring him in
the courtroom deathly quiet

the bishop ran quite out of luck
they sentenced him to hanging
a noose would soon be round his neck
at end of gavel's banging

they came around for many a mile
than cold November morn
the bishop hung upon the hill
and so the tale was born

Ode to salsa

Oh I miss my pineapple-mango salsa
mixed with my chipotle
I had to go bare on my chimichanga
and on salsa I'm fairly dotely (it's my poem, I can make up words!)

It doesn't taste the same at all
I really miss the spice
it makes it rather bland and dull
and that's not very nice

I buy it at the Aldi store
it's in another town
I simply HAVE to get some more
It's really got me down

and if Jimmy Buffet buys my words
then I'll go buy a case
hope he looks at the words of nerds
so I can stuff my face

who eats lunch with blue devils as an on-call-apologist.
who bares their life down to the jones
they really need an entomologist
to study their fly riddled spider bones

we watch with self congratulation
at least we haven't stooped there yet
and no one knows of our temptation
to eye the tabloids purloined get

we're a show and tell society
we suffer with an audience
who crave sensational satiety
for monetary recompense

when did we lose our decency
when moral compass oxidized
please grant the suffering privacy
away from voyeuristic eyes

Yes, there is a right to know
to rally righteous indignation
revealing anguish just to show
should be met with deprecation

Been gone for awhile
romancing in style
dancing in the stars
with a love so afar
destiny sealed
true selves revealed
passions died
He friggin' lied.
Picking up the pieces
Looking within
knowing he's out there
As I begin again.

hey Bobby, posted in first line, last line today...

And leash me past the minotaur’s harm
and Medusa's snaky stare
past Siren's tempting voice
And Sapphos thighs laid bare

bring me to home these golden years
my faithful hound to greet my tread
to dry Penelope's lonely tears
and warm her in our marriage bed

hey Bobby, this again, posted elsewhere....I think I am an accidental rhymer...

cyber friend, I hope your write
was just a term to say goodnight
and not a way to say goodbye
and let another good thread die

I know I haven't let you know
and let you get your spirits low
but I consider you a friend
you always have my ear to bend

I don't quite understand the scene
but know that if you need to lean
your friends online will never mind
they'll listen, and they'll treat you kind

We're a motley crew, I know
consider this a place to go
and vent the things you need to say
so you can love another day

I know that love will come for you
and when it does, It will be true
So take my faith, I've some to spare
believe me when I say I care

Just take some time to clear your head
while you are gone, we'll tend your thread
and come on back when you feel able
to lay some rhyme upon the table

another from playing in last line....

Is that what You had in Mind?
they say that all who love are blind
but you I saw with opened eyes
the revelation a surprise

who thought that such a cheating heart
could be so sweet and yet so tart
and yet I found you seldom lie
if cornered with your alibi

there is honor among thieves I learned
and yet my pride in judgement burned
and though I loved I couldn't stay
you promised to honor and obey

you made a vow to her that day
though it was hard I stayed away
and so you chose your path in life
when you took another for your wife

I miss you still, I always will
but that's my "jagged little pill"
I swallowed it and grew a soul
to marry you had been my goal

no demons can be messing
or talking in my head
although I'll be confessing
I check under my bed

I look for eyes a gleaming
or the ivory flash of fangs
as quiet as it's seeming
there's uneasy little pangs

are they hiding between clothing
or behind my shower curtain
filled with fear and loathing
I'll check until I'm certain

My precious kindred spirit,
Do you doubt we’ll share,
A love transcendent,daring,
And truly rare?

Our souls dominion;
Will give us no choice.
Time has frozen my dreams still,
Until I hear your voice.

If fate has its way
Your eyes will meet mine,
Lost in forever
We’ll travel past time,through worlds
Bound in each others eyes

Then, long awaited
Our hands will touch;
Mine, fragile, soft,
Yours warm and safe.

No thoughts will break,
Or suspend our dance.
When our souls meet,
Our hearts take to chance.

A force of nature,
Destiny shall ordain.
Our will cast aside,
Released from the pain.

To each other's center,
We will be led,
Seduction upon us,
Our hungers fed.

My heart, for you only,
My flesh will surrender,
Respond to your warmth,
To your touch, so tender.

A coveted encounter,
Fulfilled at long last,
We’ll know from then on,
If this will just pass.

The danger for us,
Will be revealed then -
What might be our future...
