No, no, no no way.... women love intelligent men.....

they ( the men ) can be used in so many ways.... from "problem solving" to takeing out the trash...

The smarter the more "uses" for em..... the ole "honey trap"....

But i will tell ya, intelligent men eventually catch on and learn to play dumb.. if they know whats good for them.... muhahahahahah .

jdguy - great post - I totally agree but it works the same with men and what they are looking for.

Personally, I would like a man who meets or exceeds my intellegence - not that I'm a genius or anything but a different view and the opportunity to learn new things and be challenged does interest me. Lack of stimulating conversation for me is a total deal breaker. I do not need or want a man I can control as that is no fun (also I wouldnt like to be controlled), nor do I want a man with a lot less intellegence as I dont need to be stroked on an intellectual level (other stroking is definitely a plus ). There is absolutely no need to be intimidated by an intellegent person as they should be smart enough to not be an a$$ about their intellegence - and if they act otherwise, I usually question their intellegence.

2 schools of thought on this one:

1. Some women want the fruits of the labours of intellegent, driven men, and many relationships fall apart because in order for the man to be successful he usually needs to be very involved in his career in order to earn big $$ and that means there are sacrifices. Some women want it both ways, they want the man with $$ but they also want to consume all of his time.

2. Other women want intellegent men - me for one, I would like to have something to talk about the next morning while I am making breakfast for us. If he comes with a good career - great, if not, that's ok too. Money is not the end all - be all. I find intellegent men such a turn on - its really nice to know there is something other than straw behind those beautiful eyes.

Intelligence is a turn on in both men and women....I love to debate issues and ideas. I find though, that men say they like to do this, but only if you agree with thier take on the issue.

I have dated many intelligent men who said they loved the way I think and present ideas....only down the road they find it intimidating....very frustrating.

Intelligence has nothing to do with earning power however, as I work with alot of stupid people who make way too much money...One thing has little to do with the other. If you ask any succesful person, they will tell you, yes, they worked hard, but they were also blessed to be in the right place at the right time. I know a few really intelligent people who work hard, but just can't catch a break. Luck, skill, a winning personality and intelligence all work to together-finding the right rythym, being in tune to your environment and being ready when opportunity knocks, are all key.

I think to say all of one sex hate one thing is an uneducated statement.

^^^Please some one else fess up to "just haveing to check out that profile"^^^^

Haveing just read the "wings" threads, I'm looking at the other piece of a chicken here that contains all white meat..... grrrooowwwlll.

But I'll have to tell you, it's not so much a gender specific thing this intelligence. I'd much rather come across like a simpleton to put people as ease and see then ungaurded..natural.
An instructer once told me...some have book smarts, others street smarts... and others .. people smarts...

I'm looking for a balance of all three as well as a huge heart... oh yeah and a pulse,,yeah a pulse would be a good thing... LOL

Gee I'm not from Manitoba - am I allowed to post an opinion in this thread?

I qualify for MENSA but I don't have a university education. I abso-frigging-lutely insist that a man be able to offer me intelligent conversation, perhaps challenge me to a good debate on a variety of topics, and be interested in broadening his own horizons. I actually had one POF friend joking with me when I told him my IQ was 148 - his is "only" 132 or something so he started acting like he was really stupid (FYI, to the best of my knowledge 130 is the cutoff point for MENSA).

What I abhor is men who are intellectual snobs, who think the alphabet soup after their name makes them "better than" anybody else, and (worst of all) those IDIOTS who try and sound smarter than they really are by using $10 words incorrectly. An example of this kind of thing was an appearance by Liza Minelli on some talk show years ago - when asked what it was like to work with Sammy Davis Jr. she said (with a great deal of passion) that he was the ANTITHESIS of a star. Of course she meant epitome - poor Sammy!

I started college the day my son started grade 10; I believe life-long learning is a must to keep those synapses firing. My grandfather did crossword puzzles until the day he died (at 94). He also wrote poetry after he & my grandmother went into "the home". Now that's an intelligent man!

Hope this won't be taken as hijacking the thread but Mensa is also the Greek word for table, according to the material I've read on the group. The idea being, as I understand it, that the group was for like-minded individuals to bring their collective ideas to the table (either literally or figuratively).

Does it really mean "stupid" in Spanish? That's hilarious! I had a classmate in high school who had moved here from Germany; she used to say she had a hard time getting used to people talking about eating pickles - that's the Deutsch word for PIMPLE . Yes we Canadians do have strange tastes.

And while it would be even better if the Big Fish himself chimed in here, as he's some sort of award winning math genius - pi is actually 3.14159265. Gee I wonder if Markus is a fan of the show Numbers - I love it to pieces myself but then I'm no wunderkind (at least not in mathematics ) IMHO, best part of the show is that math genius Charlie Epps is played by David Krumholz, who also played Charlie the chief elf in the Santa Claus. Apparently when you retire from being an elf, you go to MIT!

Thanks Hank. Here are my answers:

1. How many times can you subtract 5 from 25?

Once. After that you’re subtracting 5 from 20, etc.

2. Before Mt. Everest was discovered, what was the biggest mountain in the world?

Mt. Everest - just because it wasn’t discovered doesn’t mean it wasn’t there!

3. How is it possible for two fathers and two sons to pay only $21 for a buffet when the buffet costs $7 per person?

Easy - there’s a fishing joke like this too - it’s a grandfather, his son, and his grandson.

4. In a criminal trial, what is the relationship of the defendant to the trial judge, if the defendant's brother-in-law's only sister's husband is the father of the son of the judge?

My teenager figured this one out! The judge is his WIFE. If you assume that his brother-in-law is his wife’s brother and not his sister’s husband, btw.

5. Which weighs more, a pound of pennies or a pound of dimes?

Kids I’m old enough to remember this one as “a ton of feathers or a ton of lead”. A pound is a pound is a POUND - 16 ounces - unless it’s a pound sterling…lol.

6. Two U.S. coins add up to 55 cents, but one coin is not a nickel. What are these coins?

A fifty cent piece and a nickel. The fifty cent piece is “not a nickel” - it didn’t say “Neither of these coins is a nickel”.

7. What is it that the people who make it, don't want it; the people who buy it, don't use it; and the people who use it, don't know it?

A coffin.

8. A man rides into town on Sunday, three days later, he leaves on Sunday, how can this be?

OMG my kid got this one in a nanosecond - Sunday is the name of his HORSE. lmao

9. What's more powerful than God, the rich don't want it, the poor have much of it, and if you eat it you'll die?

Nothing.

10. Johnny's mother had three children. The first child was named April. The second child was named May. What was the third childs name?

Johny!

This was fun can we start a thread with these brain teasers?

Well deranged we came up with the judge being the defendant's wife -perhaps the gent who posted this could adjudicate?

Defendant's brother-in-law = defendant's wife's brother

only sister's husband = defendant

therefore defendant is father of judge's son so judge must be his wife.

or more correctly the defendant is the husband of the trial judge - until she recuses herself of course!

did I get it right did I did I ???

omg I need to get .....

Dear Deranged,

My son got really ticked off that I took so much time to explain my answer, but for the benefit of those who still don't get it, I'll walk you through it again. Let's give them names shall we for clarity.

Let's call the defendant Bob, his wife Carol, and his brother-in-law Ted.

For purposes of this demonstration, let's say that Bob also has a sister called Alice, to rule out any other "suspects" as the brother-in-law..

So the first thing is that Bob's brother in law could be:

a) Carol's brother Ted (Bob's wife's brother)
b) Alice's brother Ted (Bob's sister's husband)

Now, since our bro-in-law has a sister who plays a significant role in all of this, that rules out B, since we don't have anybody to be Ted's sister in that scenario, and the sister is a vital part of the equation (ooooh back to a math problem - well, logic problem actually - I used to suck at those - I must be channeling the late Jeff LeBar, my best friend and problem solver extraordinaire!).

Have I lost anybody yet? Resolved: that the brother-in-law is the wife's brother, NOT the sister's husband.

Next, the bro-in-law's only sister must be Carol, wife of our defendant Bob.

Therefore her husband is none other than our friend Bob.

If Bob is the father of the judge's son then the judge must be Carol, his wife. Or some freak who has made 17 appearances on Maury trying to find her baby's daddy.

Your first mistake is believing that your brother-in-law's wife is your sister-in-law. Your sister-in-law is your brother's wife or your husband's sister. Period. Your brother-in-law's sister is either your wife or no relation whatsoever. Except in a few counties that don't have Internet access and won't mind if we have a little fun at their expense.

Now if you really want to get confused I'll explain about how the 1st & 2nd cousins and the "removed" thing works - genealogy is my LIFE!

You guys are just too much fun for words. Guess I'm going to have to arrange that pilgrimage to MacMillan Ave. after all to worship at the home of my first big love Burton.

Before you all jump down my throat yes I know the Nellie McLung theatre was renamed after him even though if she came back from the dead she'd be able to drive and he can't with 3 DUI convictions. And I know that in ill-advised moments he's said some unfavourable things about Winnipeg. But when I was 15 years old, and didn't have a friend in the whole world, I called his hotel room when the Guess Who was back in town to play the CNE and I said "I don't know if you remember me. We met last fall; my name is Darlene." and he said "sure I remember you". Bear in mind that I was flat-chested jail bait at the time, okay?

For ten years I thought the song "she might have been a nice girl" was about me; I learned from Burton after the Junos in 1979 that he was about his ex but he also said it had been his favourite song at the time. See really he just THINKS it was about Janet/Janice whatever - my influence on him was soooooo subtle - but really that's MY song.

And when he married a woman who'd only known him for a few months and had not been a fan back in the day, I gathered up 10 years worth of clippings and gave them to the guy who made the introductions as a wedding present for Cheryl - passing the torch, as it were.

To bring this post back on topic - intelligence per se aside I must admit that I am HUGELY attracted to a guy with musical talent - especially piano players! Daddy played the piano until his stroke when I was 12 - he had me on Tiny Talent Time when I was 4 - and I've been "singing for my supper" ever since (figuratively, not literally).

Truth is that one guy I was completely head over heels crazy mad in love with - I have no idea how smart he was - we were both Scorpios - sparks flew when we were in the same room - even when our respective spouses were around. I at least got some great material for a song out of the experience!

At the end of the day I don't think we have any control over who we fall in love with; our only choice is what we do about it. Especially if they don't love us back - or will even entertain the possibility of speculating about the potential for considering a hypothetical attempt to ascertain whether we can give them what they NEED even if we're not what they think they're looking for. I can lose the weight (you know who you are) but where will you ever find another woman who holds a CANDLE to my intelligence, wit, passion, and willingness to let your prove your theories about the G spot (well okay that last one is pretty easy... )

Dar
I really need to stop drinking coffee in the evening my circadian(sp?) rhythms are all messed up - guess getting back on my medication would too
