Bad Diaper Rashes~~~Help!!Page 4 of 5    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Try thoroughly washed cloth diapers for a week. [a flexible shower nozzle is helpful with cleanup of those before laundering]

A big bonus, is that babies will protest much quicker and you get to change and clean them right after they need it. (there's a huge down-side to super-absorbent diapers, baby accepts being soiled for much too long, as it doesn't feel 'wet' and icky/cold).

Likely causes, beyond soiling being left in too long contact with the skin: reaction to the chemicals in artificial diapers, and, detergents in the soaps being used.

Cloth diapers in combination with extreme cleanliness through using very gentle soaps (eg. Ivory Bar soap or unscented hand soaps like Dove, and continuing to apply a protective cream (plain skin lotion is pretty good, Vaseline Petroleum Jelly is o.k.), ought to get results.

Bad Diaper Rashes~~~Help!!

My daughter was a very chubby baby and no matter what I did, that line along the leg was always red and irritated and I had tried everything. I was visiting my family in Chicago and changed her diaper at a friend's house and used the powder from her changing table. Woke up the next morning and the perpetual rash line (I am talking at least six months) was gone from a single use.

She had told me about this powder but as I had tried every cream and powder at the time I did not pay attention to it. My youngest is 7 and I still keep it as the first line of defense against any type of rash. The company also makes a cream and at least in Texas, that is now the only thing available in stores. I have to have my pharmacist order the powder.

Caldescene is the brand. I really believe in this stuff, when it first disappeared from the store shelves, my father ordered me a case of it.

try creams with a high zinc content, plaster it all over their little bots and reapply as needed. Also, you didnt say how old the kids were? are they drinking enough? If they arent drinking enough, their urine can be concentrated and 'burn' their bots. All the best with what you try, its horrible to see a bad nappy rash.

I have to agree with Mally on the first page (and likley others) If it is yeast the best remedy is athletes foot cream. As long as it has 2% menzo-something or other your good to go. Adult yeast creams are way more exspensive and are not as concentrated. I was shocked when my GP recommended it for my wee girl, but cleared it up withen a day or too. Also I know this may sound odd, but it truly works! My Dr also suggested that prior to putting the cream onto your babies bottom blow dry it!.. I know, odd but true. Yeast harbors in moist places and no matter how much we wipe we are so nervous to hurt our little guys that we dont dry thier bums enough. So set your dryer to warm and low and gently dry the entire area and then add the foot cream. I used to have a blower tucked under the diaper table and it really does work! no more wipping sore bottoms, but they are all dry and happy (and giggly too) Its worth a try!

Good luck!

I can't remember the name of the cream but it was much stronger than the regular Penaten... my pediatrician was from the UK and gave us an over the counter cream that he use to order in special.

it was more than regular diaper rash , it was indeed a yeast infection and the rashness was bad. I will look for the name of the cream, but for now exposure to air is good, no diapers if possible, and keep it clean.

be well.
