I hate it too, paperdoll.....do we really need contractions for three letter words, folks? Are we that lazy ?

I don't care at all for internet jargon (tho instead of though, etc.)
or text message initialing like you mentioned above....UGH!!!

Another killer? "....with baited breath", it's BATED....baited breath makes it sound as though you are trying to catch trout by putting the worm on your tongue!

Ok. Wait a minute here.
I started reading this thread for a laugh and because, of course, I could relate; But then it got a little 'hectic'. PERSONALLY, I take the time to try and correct my spelling before it even goes through whatever I'm typing on (forums, IM's); But that's what I've trained myself to do for the sake of ME.

And 'jimi' - everyday I make a conscious effort to "take people for what they are" because I do think it's important to "live and let live". I think the point of this thread is to get some people to understand that it's noticable when they don't put a conscious effort into something as effortless as the spell check function.

That's the aggravating part. If you don't care about the way you type - so let it be. Just know that we 'notice'.

Very good, sealacamp.

And if the object of discussion was an Alaskan malamute, it would be mute mute moot point.

I guess my point is.. Nit pickers.. I am not in college or writing a term paper.. Much like if I am in front of a pastor, boss, elderly person I will speak proper and write proper..

I really didn't mean to convey the impression that I am nit-picking everyone else's posts, Jimi....or that I'm the English police .....I write in a really casual way here myself....I don't stress over spelling, punctuation, etc.....but when I opened my mailbox today there was email after email with the same glaring errors, so it was on my mind and I posted about it, wondering if everyone else had the same fleeting annoyances that I do. I promise you it's not something I obsess over, and not something that keeps me up at night

a "dangling participle" sounds like it would work during cybersex build-up.

There was a young man from San Luis Obispo
Whose participle dangled quite low
He tied it in knots
But got blood clots
And passed out while fukking a ho.

The one that bothers me is "idiot" People use the word "idiot" when describing myself when, in fact, the word they are searching for is "Stud"

*scratches head*

That one really bothers me. ;)

Sometimes it bothers me when a lady says something like " I do not want to have sex with you", when in fact, "do me; do me now" is the appropriate phrase for the situation.

muppets are allowed uncommon usages. You can get away with lots of things if you're cute and furry

There was a man from San Luis Obispo
Who lathered his dangling participle with Crisco
Though he came as he shook
He felt like a shnook
Now his relationships tend to be pi$$-po'.

There was a young lady from Carmel
Who couldn't correctly spell.
She wrote a note to a POF guy
Stating, "I lick you, so hi !"
The recipient read it, and swelled.

There was a young man from St Paul
Who could dangle his participle on call.
When a woman dialed nine-one-one
He answered and said, "let's have some fun";
He went over, put out her fire, what gall.

While I don't have an English degree or anything I do edit a small newsletter and am relieved there are others who are just anal as me. I can handle if they make typos in a rush to send me a long paragraph that "piques" my interest, but we're talking Grade 5 here folks! If I see "peak" or "to" or any other of the previous aforementioned grammar and spelling errors I usually am not interested in that person. If they can't spell correctly, I'm sure there is very little we will have in common. "Altheimers" bugs me too.

My faults: Dyslexia I type so fast the letters always come up in the wrong order.
"Dyslexics of the World Untie!"

Of note though... A rcenet sudty dnoe by sudntes at smoe uvistiney fnuod taht redragsles of waht odrer the lertets are in, polepe can slitl raed the wrdos bucasee we are tanired to raed form lfet to rhigt by linkoog at the wolhe wrod.

Her ad in the paper seemed taunting.
"Man wanted; I need piece in my life."
Unfortunately, her spelling was found wanting:
Six hundred new man-friends instead creating strife.
