My hero cartoon character Hagar The Horrible always has trouble spelling his initials:
"H...T... and buggered if I can remember the next one..."

And he's a real man with horns on his helmet!

Bad spelling in forums is forgivable if, like me, you've had a few bevvies before you start replying....

Bad spelling in profiles is just laziness - how many have we read that say -"I'll come back and fix this later" and they never do.....

I have to admit I'm a spelling /grammar nazi, and groan out loud at some of the crapola I've read. There's no excuse for SMS style writing when you have so much space. Of course those guys are probably happily walking on the beach with their "sence" of humour in their "discrete" relationships while I sit here nitpicking!

I get cheesed off when people use this 'Looking 4 U', can't they spell FOR or YOU?
Perhaps I need 2 get a life. No wonder kid's R failing at skool, when this type of stuff is doin the rounds! Takes me longer to find the 2 than it does to type it! There again, I don'tlike it when people use words Iv'e never heard of.

DD you are right there - kids are encourage to put pen to paper to express themselves and come highschool are suddenly graded on the grammar and comprehension components of their texts.

Mobile messaging has caused alot of this as it is advertised on tv and people speak in chat programs with abbreviations - such as LOL, ROFLMAO, etc .......... and this flows through to the kids who live on these programs and some adults too.

Reading more resumes yesterday, I had to almost cringe with the covering email of a girl who wanted a job as a PA ............... she was 27 and sent a beautiful cover letter and resume` and then sent a kids version of an email to apply for the position.

Mobile txt msgs have caused alot of this - since people use the abbreviations they use in chat programs to get across a brief message - I guess like the USA Police 10 code for radio transimissions.

Then there's "I like dinning out"....

Hey Serge, what about the actual email addresses on the resumes? I've seen some rippers that would make my mother blush - don't they think about these things when applying for jobs? ( Am I really going to employ someone to work with kids whose email address is "woombroom4you"?)

Actually this particular young lady was applying for a position under the GM and if this is was an example of someone sending in a professional letter and resume` and showing that she is not up for the job.

This is a 80k a year job and I guess perhaps you Sleepless would take someone off the street who you knew was not up to the level required - regardless of qualifications ?

Arrogant ......... nope - first impressions count and I can tell you that a nice suit with a Disney tie is not going to impress your interviewer or if you are wearing a K-mart suit for a corporate job .............. and this girl did not impress me with her poor email.

Hey Delaware ................ the mobile voice msgs were even better - some of these kids forget they are moving up in the world and should have 2 mobiles - 1 for work and 1 for personal stuff to avoid any issues with people being offended by some messages that contain swear words.

Now meanwhile ............ back at the ranch and on topic .......... perhaps spelling is not important to society these days ?

Also I was reading through some more today for divisional

Spelling is important. Really. If I struggle to decipher the introductory email I figure there's just no point in going on....
