JUDAS PRIEST, now thats the perfect discription of metal.from old school to new school they can hold their own. I think zep and sabbath were heavy rock but J.P. bought the metal into the fore.
Mastadon rule as well. And Aussie band Dream Killers are fab too.

It does not matter what kind of music you just has to reach your soul....although I have to admit.....rock and metal were my music of choice in high school...but I appreciate all music.....well maybe not rap....but to each his own.

f I make it to be 55, I'll still love Metal
In my opinion...I think most metal bands write tunes more about the truth, and the world around us...other than these country and pop bands that only write about love and crap
Rock On

What is sad and that a lot of people do not know is a lot of heavily commercialized music in the pop, country, R&B, Hip Hop, and the teenie bands is that a lot of them do not write their own lyrics. The pay people out right for them to write an entire song so they can sing it. Now metal bands for the most part write all of their own stuff, and if they do need help with writing a song (hence I said help because they don't have people write them entire songs they have fellow musicians come in the studio and help them slosh around ideas) they call in fellow musicians of the rock and heavy metal world. Personally if you can't write your own stuff I do not think you should be getting paid millions of dollars. It is sorta of like being in a cover band (no I am not knocking cover bands I am using it as an example) they sing and play stuff that someone else has wrote. Now that is not inferring the greats from way back in the day I am referring to these modern groups and people. Of course that's my two cents

Man ...metal does not need to subjegated to one specific age group .its been around since the late 60's. COME ON PEOPLE, GET BACK IN THE GROOVE. Rap music is just a passing fad, But Metal will live on forever. From Humble beginnings like black sabbath to the sounds of 80's thrash metal to todays even slightly more popular but slightly more annoying version of nu-metal. Its here to stay folks ....LONG LIVE THE METAL

You're 55 and you like metal? That's so cool.

It's hard to find someone my age who likes it, let alone 55. My parents hate it.

Did anybody mention Whitesnake?
Some nice vocals and great solos:

Is This Love
Still Of The Night

The 80s metal was probably the best heavy music ever produced.

Well, you might be right. Whitesnake are not as heavy as Iron Maiden, let's say, but read this article on
Whitesnake genres
hard rock, blues-rock, heavy metal, glam metal
then this one on
heavy metal is mentioned too.
Their ties with Deep Purple are well-known.
The thing is some listeners don't agree on what's heavy metal and what's not. Whitesnake does have elements of heavy metal, listen to this:
Whitesnake - Burn
I guess most listeners who listened to Whitesnake, like I did, in the 80s might agree that Whitesnake could be classified as heavy metal, or at least as heavy rock.

The larger my Age number gets (it's at 40 right now hehehe) the heavier/faster/more "evil" the music has been getting. Not to say that I'm evil But right from my first "Kiss" Cassette (remember them? Kiss and cassettes?) through my first of many Maiden shows to now, it will never die

I'll list some bands too, because others have... Man Must Die, Skinless and Deicide come to mind ;-)
