THREAT - High-fructose Corn Syrup Page 2 of 2    (1, 2)
Good topic. Taking a quick breather from all the seriousness here.

Have you guys seen this commercial that defends hfcs? I think its funny. Im sure its probably some sugar company itself doing it.

Unfortunately, HFCS will continue to be predominant, and consumer awareness of its dangers will continue to be largely suppressed in the mainstream media---simply due to our corrupt, special-interests-ruled political system, especially the archaic electoral college system through which the Iowa-based corn/agribusiness lobby continues to have a strangehold on both political parties.

Parallel to how HFCS has crept into the national food chain is the rise in ethanol (similarly not good for your engines) now being routinely added to our gas---same corn/farmers lobby getting their way with the 535 whores in Congress.

If you can get a copy of the documentary King Korn you will get a great education on how its in so much stuff and why a person has to read labels and even better eat whole unprocessed foods. As well as how many small communities basically live off the farm subsidies for growing corn that is made into cheap sweetener.

...Starting April 20, Pepsi will sell cans of Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback, which will be made with real sugar instead of HFCS. According to an email exchange today with Pepsi-Cola rep Nicole Bradley (inspired by Serious Eaters' questions): "Both products will be offered at the same price as regular Pepsi and regular Mountain Dew." The drinks will only be available until June 13...

...Members of the original Pepsi Generation are about to get a sweet trip down memory lane. The company announced on Thursday that three new "retro" sodas will be hitting beverage aisles beginning in March and April.

Frank Cooper, a VP for Pepsi-Cola North America Beverages announced via the company's website, "Pepsi Natural and the Throwback duo (Pepsi and Mountain Dew) give consumers the opportunity to refresh how they experience soft drinks....

Todays NYTimes has a major piece on sugar replacing high fructose corn syrup.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/21/dining/21sugar.html?hp By KIM SEVERSON Published: March 20, 2009

Sugar, the nutritional pariah that dentists and dietitians have long reviled, is enjoying a second act, dressed up as a natural, healthful ingredient. From the tomato sauce on a Pizza Hut pie called “The Natural,” to the just-released soda Pepsi Natural, some of the biggest players in the American food business have started, in the last few months, replacing high-fructose corn syrup with old-fashioned sugar......Some shoppers prefer cane or beet sugar because it is less processed. High-fructose corn syrup is produced by a complex series of chemical reactions that includes the use of three enzymes and caustic soda. Others see the pervasiveness of the inexpensive sweetener as a symbol of the ill effects of government subsidies given to large agribusiness interests like corn growers......But with sugar newly ascendant, the makers of corn syrup are fighting back. Last fall, the Corn Refiners Association mounted a multimillion-dollar defense, making sure that an advertisement linking to the association’s Web site, sweetsurprise.com, pops up when someone types “sugar” or “high-fructose corn syrup” into some search engines.....In one television advertisement, a mother pours fruit punch into a cup while another scolds her because the punch contains high-fructose corn syrup. When pressed to explain why it is so bad, the complaining mother is portrayed as a speechless fool....Sugar’s comeback is not entirely a backlash against the corn sweetener. Market researchers say that with the economy so unsettled, people want to control what they can. Choosing organic, less processed or so-called natural foods is a relatively inexpensive way to do that.

Although a human can live almost indefinitely on a glucose IV, if a person is put on a HFCS IV, the liver will fail after 3 - 4 days. Definitely a no-no.

I know of students who tried to get thru college on caffeine from soda pop. Aside from the inherent risks of caffeine, they got liver failure from the HFCS. And now they get sick whenever they drink pop.

But seriously, folks, why waste your money on soda pop? All that fizz is just carbon dioxide - a waste byproduct of human metabolism. It is good for plants, but not for humans. It is just an added burden on the heart, lungs, kidneys, etc. to remove all of that CO2 from the bloodstream.

All that sugar and artifical flavorings and colorings are only hiding the fact that they are selling us sewer water, I mean city water. Here in Detroit, there is a Pepsi Bottling Plant by Eastern Market. I never heard of any artesian wells over there. It's just plain old Detroit River water, dressed up in a pretty bottle and a pretty price tag, disguised with artificial color and flavor, and laced with CO2. You can buy Detroit municipal water without the additonal pollutants for 4-5 cents a gallon.

At Wal Mart's they were selling gallons of bottled water. But if one read the label, it said "Water from a municipal source. Flint Michigan." It was declared to have been filtered, but what does that mean? Tap water run through a piece of cheesecloth?

Do you know what you should do? You should do whatever you want.

Now, the main US sugar makers are crossing over & starting to use genetically modified sugar beets to make sugar. Ofcourse, this comes with its own set of very serious problems. The corn industry in the US has been growing/selling genetically modified corn for some time, now. Genetically modified food is not the cure-all for world hunger that it's being portrayed as. It can cause much more harm than good. In one study, cows were fed a diet of GM corn and a bunch of them "mysteriously & suddenly" died. In another study, lab rats were fed a diet of GM tomatoes. They died in a period of two weeks and their bodies were full of tumors. Fyi, their general lifespan is two years. There are no long term studies on the health effects of using GM foods & I for one do not want to be a lab rat. In my opinion, it's time for us to stand up as consumers and tell the big corporations that we are paying attention and that we will not patronize them any longer. Not until they make the food supply safe again. And in the interim, we need to do our research and find the compaies that are still selling foods that are fit for human consumption. Kellogs has started using sugar made from GM sugar beets.

YouTube Video explaining exactly what Fructose is!!!
Posted: 1/27/2010 11:54:55 PM
I have found an amazing nine part series on YouTube about Fructose. If you really want a complete and thorough understanding of this toxin including statistical data as well as a complete breakdown of exactly how Fructose is broken down in our bodies. There are also the exact same breakdowns of Glucose and Ethanol to show you just how similar Fructose is to SUGAR MADE FROM ALCOHOL!! Fructose is a TOXIN! Please watch this!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjxyjcvW7RE

I am also planning on starting a YouTube group to spread awareness of this poison in our food supply. And what sinister companies Coke and Pepsi are!!! There is no healthy alternative to drinking a cola. You either drink the regular cola with Fructose or you drink the diet version with ASPARTAME!!! Down with Coke and Pepsi!!!

Live healthy! Eat for your blood type! Refuse to eat the crap our governments allow big corporations to feed us in mass quantities!!!
