I think the soul is multidimensional and truly exists in the absolute. I also think that our experience here is but a small part of the soul...a projection, if you will.

Like a lotus flower it has many aspects and is always expanding. I think it is that essence inside, under the thoughts and personality. I think "soul" uses the personality the way it uses the physical body, as a means of expression. A vehicle for manifestation. I believe it is our true nature...and I also believe it is completely objective in perception.

I've seen dead bodies..they DO NOT look like they are sleeping, even if they are fresh and peaceful, something essential is missing. Whether that is measurable in physical terms is debatable.

Contrary to popular belief, no one is born with a soul, whole and complete.
Rather, people are born with a seed, from which a soul can be grown.
Through proper nourishment through life experiences a soul can be formed and continue it's existence onto a higher plane of existence after death.
People who have failed to properly nourish their seed, or tend to the growth of a soul go nowhere after death. They simply pass whatever small amount of life energy they have back into the Earth.
It is the curse of humanity that most of us think we have a complete soul to start out with.
Therefore, almost no one pays any attention to the formation of a soul in their lifetimes . Most people think in terms of earning their " ticket to heaven " and give no thought to whether they have anything to go to heaven in the first place.

There is serious study being done into the possibility that "consciousness" is a quantum-level phenomenon and that not all the structures of the brain can account for that spark that we call "soul."

Of course, it has its problems. But consider that, on the quantum level, information travels out in waves. Is it possible that what we consider "soul" is simply a quantum wave-form interacting with the rest of the universe. And that wave continues on after what we call "death?" Okay, highly speculative, I know. But it's an intriguing thought.

My soul consists of:

a) Desire. It's a desiring thing. It desires:

1. Beauty, perfection, goodness be it in a person, food, or otherwise.

2. Truth, knowledge & wisdom about self, and other.

b) Intellect/Mind. It's a recognizing thing. Even without the senses, the soul can know itself. You pointed out dreams. We can call the intellect/mind, the "dream-master".

c) Being. Always is.

my soul is an egocentric human invention used to the effect of seperating me from a strictly material world, inspiring beliefs of grandeur, and drawing lines between me and nature.
it gives me a warm feeling.

I believe I am a soul, but not that it is a seperable part of my existence that has a life independent of my body. My soul is the unique person that my genes have specified me to be and that the rather nifty electro chemical activity in my brain has made it possible for me to experience and enjoy. Unfortunately one day old age, disease or trauma will end these pleasant ruminations and I will transform reluctantly into a soulless stiff, with my synapses maybe firing on overtime in the final moments and producing a happy "near death experience" as the lights go out.

""Pardon me if this one has been posed before, but if asked, what would be the best definition of your own soul? Do you believe it travels at night as you dream? Does it collect and store info for the next incarnation? Like i said, if this thread is repetitious..forgive ""

nice... well in my personal opinion, the soul is a fragment of the origonal life spark, i believe the soul is who we truly are, i believe that the human life is but a tiny fragment of the soul, one soul may live many lives in many diffrent ages... i believe the meaning of life is to live, i believe that the reason souls diconnected from the origonal life spark in order to exsperience, every possible experence, that why there is such extreams as pain and happyness... and i also believe that our huamn physical life is the lowest for of life, i think there are 11 dementions like einstine sugested, and i believe there are forms of life living in ever levle.... but this is just my personal opinion

I think I would know if I had a soul, so since I don't know, I obviously don't.

My soul: (Description)

My soul is most likely a construct of sorts, a tool developed randomly during evolution to aid the survival of the individual. It is, however, sensed; which means that it may be a real, tangible entity. It could also be only a virtual entity, a function of some matter, most likely of the brain. This has more evidence since only the person whose soul it is can have sensation of it. No other person can have a sensation of my soul. (I have copywrited it.) This means that maybe it is more likely that it's a virtual entity, not a real, physical, tangible one.

My soul may be even less than a virtual entity. Maybe it's just the conglomerate of sensations, emotions and thoughts that occur in my brain that give rise to the (unreal and non-existant, yet apparently obvious) entity of soul. I don't know.

My soul should not be confused with "I". It has perplexed me for a number of years whenever I tried to identify who "I" am. It's not my body; my body is mine, it is a possession, it is an appendage. My conscious, my consciousness, my soul, my life, my world, my ideas, my anything goes down the same routine of being a possession of "I". Why else would I refer to these things, each or all, as "my [whatever]"? So what is this mysterious "I" that owns a lot of these neat things, but is never pointed out, is never identified or described with a pointer to it and stated, "This is I"? Conceptually or physically. Whatever "I" is, I only talk about manifestations of it, like my body, my soul; I never talk about the real "I".

I am starting to think that language fails the concept here. The way we talk about our possessions in this sense, that is, "my soul" "my body", etc. , is just a figure of speech. My body is I; my soul is I. When I talk about my body, I just CALL it my body, for the sake of illustrative purposes to my listeners, in which turn of speech I imply to say to them, "now I am going to talk about me, particularly the body-me" as the case might be.

If someone has a different idea, please tell us.

It's a dark, dark place lol. I feel I sold it to the Devil a long time ago (when I was 19 and discovered porn, and it gets financially greedy at times too). Sometimes it's a very loving and loveable place though, so, in that respect, it embraces God.

My soul can also be light, fluffy and funny...mischevous. It's more of a clown or fool than a demon, although it has dark, aggressive demonic tendencies.

My soul is a perplexing mix for me to figure out, let alone anyone else.

My soul is happiest when it's sculpting my body in the form of physical exercise, when it's directing its anger toward something positive, making the muscles move in a certain direction.

My soul is also happiest when it's creating an audio/visual masterpiece that is violent or sexually oriented, or that stirs the emotions in one way or another.

My soul likes to keep moving. When it sits idly, it feels dead.

Mine is a category mistake arising from a misunderstanding of language.

But then, I'm a honkey, so it wouldn't have any rhythm, would it.

Scaley, a little gangly. Has a terrible smell in the morning. A bit obtuse in shape with some ruffles in it's codpiece.

How in the world can a thought go through a double slit experiment?
As for my soul, I think it is a purple light and a soothing hum.

I think the soul exists by relation and in relation to God--and in relation and by relation to ourselves.

And that it functions as interlocutor between spirit and mind/body.
