'Song'

While doing rounds along the train, boisterous but pleasant sounds caught the conductor's attention at the cafe lounge car...

Hmmmmmmmmmm..

(background laughter, guitar tuning and harmonica.....)

'Well, if they freed me from this prison,
If this railroad train were mine,
I bet I'd move it on
A little farther down the line....'

(Mr. John R. Cash)

'Far from self imprisoned
In freedom poetreee...
No longer inhibited
Poetic expression free!'

'Well, I know I had it comin'
Whistle blow release...

Souya! Yeah!

That ol' lonesome whistle
Seen to people please.'

(laughter, harmonica and guitar tuning....pleasant atmosphere)

Hmmmmm...

Conductor winks at steward
Returned with a smile
'Tis all worthwhile
Train journey mile.

'Creatures'

Fern is dense
Fresh colour spring
Black fly mosquito
Obscure sight bring.

Northern Lady observe
Clear it be to Her they serve
Provide She will sustenance
Appreciated not by chance.

Conquered attempts will fail
Laughed at those who wail
Northern Mother that strong be
Provided for that to see.

Steel ribbon asked to entwine
Provisions to inhabitants fine
Northern Lady oh how strong
Welcomes little whistle song.

'Fire Pit'

Northern train
Upon campfire pit
Slowed to stop
Visit a bit.

Glowing fire
Well to see
Domicile content
Homefires glowing be.

Surge be felt
By all aboard
And pulled by mighty engine
Drawn along the tracks so smooth
In strength is no redemption
Hills be taken
Steel be forged
And tracks long left for miles
As all aboard
This train of peace
....strong engined
Still can smile

'Off duty'

All persons need to seek the relief from duty, and the conductor scheduled through union negotiated contracts, found himself wandering about the railyards, of all things.

Given a free pass to travel on the railroad, considered he destinations:
1) visit his son in prison
2) attempt to find family
3) party with strangers

Birds singing
Trains bringing
Morning Dove
Respected Love.

Love unseen
'Sweet One' been
Recognized above
Vacationed with true love.

Rail

Something as hard and
as strong and maybe as
black as an iron rail
connects me to you
though it was only the air,
the soft white air, that
stretched between us
when I was gone.

I like the lonesome sound of the train whistle.

Railroad sounds in my head are constantly speaking
Even tho’ the railroad track is a few miles away
There hasn't been a train gone by all day
But I swear I could hear the whistle shrieking.

At night it’s quiet, there isn't a train going by
Tis a fine night is for sleep and dreaming
I see its red cinders shooting high in the sky
And hear its engine thumping and steaming.

My life is warm with the friends I’ve made
And more friends soon to be knowing
There isn't a train I wouldn't dare to take
No matter in the world where it's going

From Toronto to Montreal on Line Number 9

When I was very young my grandmother
Took me on a trip to see my cousins in Montreal
It was my first big adventure aboard a train
In those days the dining car was dressed
With white table cloths, china and silverware
Sparkling glasses and cloth napkins
I remember so vividly the feeling of movement
The gentle sway and clicking tracks
Comfortable seats with little trays
Pulled out for me to colour upon
Watching the scenery dash by
In the most amazing silent movie
From pastures green to small towns
All Aboard!
They treated you with warmth and courtesy
Smiling and teasing the little ones
Allowing you to go into those outside sections
Where the floor seemed to move
With the heartbeat of the flight
Along tracks
Through valleys and cities
And tunnels
The light flashing inside like a ride through
The fun house at a fair
My grandmother was a lovely lady
With a beautiful smile and gentle charm
We had to dress up to dine
Watching how we eat
To always pick up both knife and fork
At the same time
And when you were through
It was 5 o’clock where you placed them
On your plate
I can smell it still
A different smell
I can’t explain it in words
The bustling at the station
Smiling people
Bags being delivered down on the platform
To be picked up by a man who seemed to really love his job
Snuggled up and reading a good book
Or just napping as it swayed lulling you to sleep
These are memories I shall always keep
The beginning of adventure
Sometimes intrigue
The whistle blows and you are on your way.

PS I almost finished it with into the twilight zone LOL

The Train

In bed at night I hear a distant train,
Its rumble grows in volume as it nears.
My heart beats fast, I feel my muscles strain -
How strange, I think, for I've heard trains for years.
My window rattles with the shaking ground.
I feel as though my room has come alive;
The rumbling has become a wall of sound
Into whose solid depths I soon will dive.
Then all vibrations suddenly give way;
The air is still except a muffled hum.
What broke my peace has melted fast away,
The quiet's as before the train had come.
But now the dark is empty, cold, unknown,
I feel alone, so very much alone.

'Markers'

Marker lamps
End of train
Coal oil lit
Protect again.

Black upon knighted
Markers glow
End of train?
Journey flow?

In black of night
Little markers end
Signalled mind allusions
No longer contend.

Clothed in black
But shine of brass
Coaches lit to comfort
Fears subside in journey pass.

Marker lamps
At end of train
Protect brightly
Begin again.

'The Baggage Car'

Crewman in charge of baggage
King undisputed in that car
Muscle bound, world weary
Experienced much travel far.

His job to dispense baggage
Receive and care for cargo
Reflected on the freight in charge
Baggage passengers bestow.

A rusty bird cage
Worn out bike
Back Pack, tent
To never hike.

Broken heart
Bitter strife
Chamber pots
Precluding life.

In wild thought
Imagination flow
Enroute to station
As speed did grow...

Toss it all
This baggage dross!
To free those riding!
Not be loss!

Train begins to slow
Reality jolted thought
Opened door of baggage
Baggage passengers sought.

When I was a Kid

Gaze out the window of the speeding Train
Watching the trees go flying back,
The mountains standing above the plain
Were moving along while we roll down the track

Railroads are Helping to Stamp Out Car Congestion,

"Every 90 minutes, a vehicle and a train collides somewhere in the United States,"
"Over half of the collisions occur at crossings with gates and lights."

Working on the Railroad
I’ve been on engines with fifty different engineers.

Every locomotive engineer I’ve talked to, swore on a stack of Rule books,
they never chased a car down an alley, or raced across a pasture to hit a automobile.

Hard to believe people just get stupid, Every 90 minutes.

Can you hear that lonesome whistle blow?
moaning in the night
as the train goes roaring down the track
fading out of sight

I lost my own true love one night
to that fateful train
he road it off to join the war
and never road home again

I think I'll ride that lonesome train
to the end of that broken track
and like my love who went before
never no more come back

The Underground Grind

Subway doors pop open
Then the masses stumble out
Five hundred more jump in
for all ready filled seats
Hard to put your hand
In your own pocket
As you bustle about

If I was fast enough to get in
an grab the over head strap
That would be neat
But my progress was impeded
by so many unhurried feet.

“Squoozed”
like a sardine “sammach”
until we get to 122nd street
Standing away from the men
Wearing turbans and sheets
Staring at obese women
Squeezed in their seats

I have to ride this subway
at the crack of dawn
Each morn day after day
But I wouldn’t know how
To get there any other way

I love the subway's distant roar
you hear it coming quarter mile or more
the earth does rumble and echoes grow
until the subway appears and slows
my favorite part of the subway ride
has now disappeared with technology's strides
the lights that would flicker, go totally out
your spine would tingle without a doubt
cobalt blue lights would rush on by
eerie and scarier than an evil eye
just the click-clatter of rails neath the wheels
then the brakes on the curve would start to squeal
the darkness a blanket, respite from the bustle
for all too soon you'd be back in the hustle
of bright city lights that never are dimmed
you're back in the middle of the loony-bin

under darkness, under cover
train goes speeding down the track
headed for a destination
moving forward never back

Taking mothers to their daughters
helping sons find long lost homes
taking youths on an adventure
stars are shining, moon's a dome

Side by side they all are strangers
not to others at the end
once they reach their destination
mother, son, adveturer, friend

Welcome aboard!

May all be comforted to feel relaxed on this 'Journey of Expression!'

Whspr: 'Destination' was sad, and touching. May Your hopes be rekindled and encouraged.

Eye Guy: Your poetic thoughts are consistent..with the rythym of the rail, evidenced in Your writing. (Magic is perceived, even underground)

Aiobheann: Magic of rail sonnet precludes You not! Thank You.

AV: Eloquent thought gives vision to pasengers from the dome car..You have been guest speaker in charge there. Thank You.

The train moves on.......'Boarrrrd!!'

'A Short Story'

Well, ...ah ...just because! Lol! I'm the Conductor!

'Miscommunication'

Her hair like a sunset upon the pillow, carresed gently, so as not to disturb the magic of Her slumber. Morning ablutions accomplished: polished, shined clean pressed, body and soul, tea is prepared, for His love.

She will awaken soon. Contenteded, strolls He down the path of their well attended home. She is his heart's desire. Today marks the 20th anniversaary of their union.

With graying hair, respected in the community, black suited uniform donned, the day begins. Excitement is within! There will be a surprise today!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Curtains drawn back subtly, She watches. The pompous shined ass. He owed everything to Her intelligence.
She dumped the tea down the sink, and prepared a kettle for coffee.
So predictable! OH! Another dozen roses! Crap! Perhaps Two dozen because its 'special'! What a crock of crap! How She longed for excitement! Not that pretense of dancing at the local legion hall, or at some Union function....but desire! appreciation....no surprise.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Flowers two dozen ordered delivered, and One extra to carry personally. Today, He was not going to work, as arranged with his employer. The florist smiled.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dreamed she...'Bob'! Now there was a man! The mail carrier: worked a bit as a truck driver, played pool at the bar. Quick to fight, tough...and ..oh...! Enthralled She was at their first meeting at the rural mail box at the end of the lane, where he grabbed her butt......She feigned disdain.
She would meet Bob. Today. Again.
Her heart thrilled with the thought!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

With One limp rose
Black suited suppose
Love to disclose
Heart...expose.

`````````````````````````````````````````
What a train.
What a journey.
What a station.
What a nation.
~~~sigh~~~

'All Aboarrrdd!'
