Jaady, That's interesting, I am attracted to older men born from the 1940's thru the 1950's. Perhaps it could have to do with that particular generation?
But the largest age gap in a long term was my ex husband who was nearly14 years my senior. He is still one of my favorite people. Never felt an age difference.

I find that "older" men always go out of their way to make sure that the women they are with is comfortable and that her needs are taken care of.


I think you're absolutely right. Older men do perhaps go out of their way to treat younger women with more protectiveness. It's a fatherly thing, since the woman is young enough to be his daughter. Many of these men have daughters the same age as the woman they're having sex with. (I wonder if they've ever confused them tho!)


For the older ladies, dont you feel good about yourselves if a younger man gives you a compliment, or shows you attention?? so why do you feel the need to come down on the younger women or even the men


You bet I feel good whenever anyone gives me a compliment, be they man, woman, child, old, young, or middle aged. Compliments are awesome. I don't think anyone is coming down on younger women. In fact, most younger women have no interest at all in older men. I mean, take one look at the superstars and music stars popular with younger women. All the men are young! Take a look at younger women's magazines, no old men there! So in fact, almost no younger women figure in this equation of the younger woman/older man at all. Only a few do.

Now, why a man would do this, is no secret. It's well documented that older males go through a middle age crisis associated with losing their virility and youth. Why lie about this? It's no secret and comes as no surprise to anyone who has been reading about it for decades.

As for why some young women would choose older men, this is also no secret. The first reason is that older men, by virtue of being older, will die and leave the young women an inheritance. Coming into money or property this quickly by simply being married for a few years, is wonderful! How else can you get set for life without having to work? Inheritance is about it. Well, unless you play and win the lottery.

There are other benefits besides inheritance. There's also the power and contacts the man may bring to her, or the prestige, or the name. This is more clearly seen in the movie industry. I named one couple: Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. Someone else mentioned Tony Randall and the woman he married not long before he died. What these men have in common is that they have power and money to offer the woman. If Michael Douglas had been a middle aged deli owner who'd had it bad for Catherine Zeta-Jones, do you think she'd have given him a second look? Hell no!!! She's with him because he's a multi-millionaire producer with more movie industry contacts than you can think of, and is one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. For an up-and-coming star like Catherine, that was a gold-and-diamond meal ticket she just could not refuse. As for Tony Randall, he was married just a tiny period of time, and in exchange for being married to him a little time, and giving him children, the woman got a huge inheritance. Where else can you get rich in exchange for a couple of years work only?

Younger women who marry older men miss out on the attractiveness of a younger man, his energy, his virility, the similarities they share by being the same age, the love of similar culture, instead of a cultural gap. In return for this sacrifice, the women expect to get something in return from the older man, or they wouldn't be there. The older man usually does have more goods and money than she does, so it works out well. A sort of barter system.

I disagree with you.. maybe while Im young I will tend to be attracted to the older men by the reasons I stated in my post, but as I get older I think I may want to settle down with someone around my age or a bit older.

Your example of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones is an extreme one, 1) its Hollywood, 2) that is huge age difference I believe its 35 or something.
in the far out examples of a 35+ age difference then yes some might look and say "oh she must be waiting for him pass so she can take his money" but in reality you rarely see that, you mostly find a 10-20 yr difference hardly a reason to date someone just so you can take their money.

Also if a older man doesnt want to date someone his age why do the older women get all wound up about it, there is a newly famous saying that is going around Im sure alot of us have heard it. " He's just not that into you!" put a period at the end and move on, there is no need to get judgemental about the relationship, its no ones business but the 2 people that are involved.

Like a few people have said.. if the woman was 18 and the man was near his 50's then that is a generation gap, but if both people are past their mid 20's to 30's what is the big deal, you should only be concerned if it was your husband that was stepping out with a younger women. Other than that let men and women see who they want to see and dont make a big deal out of it. Obviously the man in question is not right for you and nothing will change his mind, I dont see the point in griping about it.

Maybe thats why some older are single because they hold a resentment against the men their age for going after younger women. I dont see the point in complaining about ones prefrence, you will not change it. Move on.

@ Tiababy - Nothing wrong with that. You might be legitimately attracted to older men. I had a friend in college who was attracted to older men because she had a very bad relationship with her father.

As for Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, it’s an excellent example of a woman marrying a man to get something out of it. As I said before, she would not have given him a second look if he’d been the owner of a deli at his age.

I’m not wound up about it. I just find it a little perverse for the ages to be extreme. I myself am not attracted to someone who is dramatically different in age, though I am currently with a man who is 6 yrs younger than I am. That's not much of an age difference.

“He’s just not into you” or “She’s just not into you” applies to everyone regardless of age. I’m sure it has been applied to you too. There are few exceptions in that.

You’re getting defensive over nothing. This thread is for the purpose of discussing why an older man would be with a younger woman, yet you’re extremely defensive over some of the reasons given. You won't succeed in censoring conversation regarding this topic. Chill out. It’s not all about you, you know.

It's a give/take situation. One sells his soul to the devil while she sells her body to the devil! The women are interested in financial security, stability and the freedoms that go along with that...although I do not see them as freedoms! lol
The men are interested in getting a new model with silkier skin and better elasticity, less mileage, and less history. But...I suppose if both parties are happy in the end than go for it..I feel bad for the folks that get left behind and the families.
I have friends who's fathers have remarried or are with women younger then they..it does create an awkward, freaky situation with lots of tension.

With the weakening of the institution of marriage we are reverting to a more natural state where the more dominant males have most of the sex with young females. There is not much chance of a 35 yr old female with 3 kids finding a man so they really lose by the weakening of marriage. Life expectancy for females is around 85 so that is 50 yrs of loneliness. Younger less dominant males spend their entire lives alone.

@ saritamiami, Im sorry you got the feeling that I thought this thread was about me?!?
I dont think there is any example anywhere in my 2 posts that I took it upon my self to make this thread about me, in case you havent noticed the "older" women are dominating this thread therefor have far more support than the yonger women here, like someone mentioned, not sure if it was you, that there are not that many young women who look for older men.. So Im sorry if I came off defensive but Im kinda out numbered here.

It's exactly as bad as Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. That Ashton kid wouldn't be with Ms. Moore if she looked the way she normally would at her age without the $1,000,000 worth of plastic surgery, and if she were the local dry cleaner front-counter person making $5.50/hour (which, judging from her near-absence of educational background, that's exactly what she would be doing).

maybe it's cuz i grew up in the 60s that i have a young attitude.. i don't know... but also, my daughter won't let me 'get old', she's not having some 'old fart' for a mom! and i look to women like Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, Cher, etc... dynamic women in their 50s-60s... hot and awesome.

so jaady, it all depends on the woman, not the age. i've seen women in their thirties who dress and look older than me!

Its a innate characteristic that we all carry, it's also a fact that men are drawn to women who have a 8" ratio difference from hips to waist, and usually it is the younger women who bear these measurements, so I say take it up with mother nature, no one can control human nature.

"Feeling young" is not the same as "being young". Most men are attracted to youth, firm bodies and childbearing capacity. That "50 is the new 30" I've read somewhere is simply ridiculous.

Some say we should "outgrow our programming". Well, I ask: Why? As men, what is the benefit in it for us?

Another reason I can think about is the old "little cat and cat": If the little cat didn't want me, I don't want the cat. A guy may think: "Those older women are the same ones that didn't give me the hour of the day when I was younger. Now they already sowed their wild oats, their bioclocks are running low and "now" I am good enough for them, because they want a nice guy to settle...thanks, but no".

Also, and let's admit it, guys, most of us want a woman with the least mileage possible.

Are these reasons machist? chauvinist? whatever-ist? Yes. Are they sincere? Yes, again.

So, if a 50-year old man wants an 18-year old girl, and he can find her (which I think highly improbable), more power to him. Both of them will get from that relationship what they want (and yes, "what they want" may be him: arm candy, her: money), and nobody has the right to say anything about it. Unless you think that that 18 year-old girl is somehow occupying your place.

Yes, and older women are still attracted to huge ones rather than older, flaccid ones that require Viagra. But so what? The fact that younger people are almost never attracted to older people, shows that they're almost never attracted to older people. Do older people try to have sex with younger people? Tang, and most women are attracted to attractive men with lots of strong, healthy hair, men with hard ones that aren't reliant upon medication to levitate, and men that have the energy of a bull. So? Sarita, did you stopped enjoying baseball (you're Cuban, right? ) only because you're older? I don't think so. The same goes with those people. The fact that yourself or I are past our prime doesn't mean we can't desire or enjoy somebody who still is. But most of us can't attract him/her anymore.

The difference is that some people can compensate it with other things (such as money, power, maturity, worldliness, fame, whatever) to attract somebody still in his/her prime.

About "making a fool of themselves", who decides who is doing that? Women may think that the old geezer with the hottie is making a fool of himself, while other men may see him with envy. Do you think Demi Moore is making a fool of herself with this guy Kutchner? I don't think so. On the contrary, she's celebrated and hailed as a role-model woman. The same goes with other old female-young male couples.

In fact, I'd bet that women think that only when it's an older man and a younger woman. And why should other people's opinion dictate what do we do with our lives, anyway?

My position is, if both are of legal age, and it's consentual, live and let them live.

Yep, I'm Cuban! I never stopped enjoying baseball! I love it! However, if I'd been a baseball player, by now I'd have stopped making an ass of myself by trying to play it, and would be sitting on the couch watching it instead.

And hey, I'm not for prohibiting older men and women from having sexual relations with much younger people. I just said it makes the older people look like an ass. Big difference.

I'm a soccer man myself, and although I'm not varsity material, still enjoy it some weekends. And you know what? I see men in their fifties and sixties, perhaps not as faster as the young ones, perhaps not scoring so many goals, but still enjoying the game and having a blast.

About "looking like an ass", well, let's say it's true. What do you prefer in your tombstone: "She lived her life to the max" or "She never looked like an ass"?
