Healthcare reform with no profit motive is UnAmerican and will be fillbustered.
We need more people getting trained in healthcare, and retail clincs and other ninches are starting to correct the dysfunctions in the healthcare sector. There about 6% of the population that drive up 80% of the healthcare costs because of cr0nic illnesss. The problem is not treating people once thier ill, but paying for it. The system is not desgined for the comsumer to know what they are paying for, nor is it desgined to take into account lower income ability to pay. Everthing with bigbrother funding everything from golf carts to hottubs with nationalized system will result in fillbuster. Need 60 senators to get anything moving, and healthcare like Hillary has it will become like Bush immigration bill stalled and fillbusted. Then become defeated once again. Universal healthcare is possible, but has to be profit motive involved or elese will not build colitation of 60 senators to pass thru the US senate and get half of the house memebers to approve.

If you had asked me 30 years ago, I would have been opposed to the Gov't providing healthcare for everyone; however, after 27 years in Military Healthcare I do think that if a model were built on the VA and the Military Healthcare System it is doable and I will go one step further in saying that it SHOULD be done. National Healthcare and a National Daycare System would alleviate some of the biggest pressures on the working poor and middle class allowing them to use their resources for things like food; housing; and transportation.

This comment is patently false and shows extreme ignorance of the medical situation faced in the US. The truth is that the niche retail clinics that are causing the dysfunctions in the healthcare sector depriving the system of trained and qualified doctors in favor of plastic surgeons and cosmetic care.
Well in Free Market economy some people value botox more than preventive checkup.

May have valids points but the realty is healthcare by federal goverment fiat will be fillbustered. Paying for Federalized healthcare the tax burden will be placed on the younger poorer workers who can barely afford thier college loans. The point is healthcare at the Federal Level will become serdom for politicans to lute the taxpayers.

Soon as word mandate is included for healthcare like Hillary Clinton has it bye, bye healthcare bill.

HR 676 is a much better solution to the health care problem than Hillary's foolish mandate. In Mass, Mitt the Nitwit Romney passed such a bill, and it has had very bad consequences. Worst, people who don't carry health insurance (because they are working poor), get fined alot of money for not carrying health insurance. The uncompensated care pool was eliminated, which hurts the poor quite badly, as well.

Enough already. We need to solve the problem and have a single payer health insurance plan. The young, poor workers would actually benefit because if done correctly, the taxes will hit the rich, as they should in the first place. The kids won't have to worry about copayments or running the risk of medical bankruptcy. I'd say that's a really good tradeoff.

Spreading the risk is a good bet--any financial advisor would tell you to diversify your stock portfolio to spread out the risk of investing. So, a single payer health care plan is similar to the police/fire/public schools. Health care should be considered a public utility or service so that greed doesn't enter the picture.

Health care should be considered a public utility or service so that greed doesn't enter the picture.

Yes it should, but considering how much money the candidates received from big pharma (especially Clinton and Obama), what makes you think there is no incentive for Big Pharma? Two old sayings come to mind : "Gas, Ass or Grass, nobody rides for free" and "Put Out or Get Out".

Big Pharma Reaches Across the Aisle

Mar. 27, Feature - Democratic Party and healthcare reform activists have frequently debated which presidential candidate's health care plan is better - Hillary Clinton's or Barack Obama's. Meanwhile, the pharmaceutical industry has been wooing Democrats in Congress. Judith Siers Poissan and Diane Farsetta of PR Watch dot org report; produced by Diane Farsetta and Judith Siers Poissan with PRWatch.org

For years, while Republicans controlled the U.S. Congress, the pharmaceutical industry lavished them with campaign contributions and lobbyist visits. The approach paid off, most notably with the industry-friendly Medicare prescription drug bill, which became law in 2003. The industry's rightward tilt, along with growing public awareness of healthcare issues, made it politically easy for Democrats to challenge drug companies.big Pharma

That changed when the 2006 elections gave Democrats control of both houses of Congress. In 2007, the pharmaceutical industry's campaign donations were split evenly between Democrats and Republicans. Drug companies hired lobbyists who formerly worked for such prominent Democrats as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Ted Kennedy, who chairs the Senate committee dealing with healthcare issues. Healthcare measures formerly championed by Democrats, such as a bill allowing re-importation of drugs from Canada, stalled in Congress.

The main industry lobby group, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, has also wooed former foes such as AARP and labor unions, by spending millions on a campaign backing the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program. The growing influence of the drug industry on both sides of the aisle means healthcare reform may not happen, regardless of who becomes the next President.

That was Judith Siers Poissan Poissan and Diane Farsetta of PRWatch.org.

What does the Gov't worrying about Defense have to do with it? The American Dream is no longer achieveable for a large percentage of the American People and last time I checked the MAIN purpose of the Gov't was to provide the ABILITY for Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Not to PROVIDE it but at least help to ensure that the people have the ability to achieve it. That ability has been severly limited in recent years due to skyrocketing healthcare, food, housing, and transportation costs; these costs are making the rich richer and making the poor and working class of the country work harder and harder for less.

I'd rather pay via taxes than "donate" money to greedy private insurance companies.

If you don't want to donate to a private company you don't have to. Since you brought up being deprived of your freedom of choice, I will say again that I advocate freedom of choice for EVERYONE. That means you should be free to spend your money on healthcare or whatever else you wish in any way you wish. However, you do not have the right to deprive others of THEIR freedom of choice by demanding that EVERYONE pay into the system you want, whether they want it or not. That's tyrannical.

I also tired of the rich whining and crying about paying taxes

I don't know how it is where you come from, but in my neck of the woods most of us are either poor or lower middle class, and we all whine about paying taxes. I hope that's ok.

yeah, free federal health care. what a great idea. you know, since government has managed to do everything else so efficiently. make it free so I have to wait in line behind the freeloaders. I can guarantee you that barack obama and hillary clinton aren't going to be waiting in line behind us. money will always triumph and it won't change even with government provided health care. why the hell do you think magic johnson has had HIV for 15 years? his incredible fade away jump shot?

Some people are just tooo caught up in ideology and propoganda to get it through their heads.. This ISN'T a liberal matter. Its irrelevant to political ideology no matter how much you want the dogma. The current system IS failed. Change IS going to happen. What the nature of that change is remains in dispute but some form of national merited health care is GOING to happen there is NO other choice

Big government programs:
Social Security going bankrupt when? 2013...that is working well
Medicare and Medicaid...government healthcare programs also going bankrupt and you want to expand that?
The Great Society Programs (War on Poverty) 4 Trillion in transfer payments and poverty levels are still the same as in 1965...that worked well.
War on Drugs....drug use at all time HIGH (pun intended) that worked well too.

Currently Government takes in 20% of the GNP, 4% of that is spent on Defense and the other 96% is spent on entitlement programs. Soon there will be no GNP.

Yes your poverty rate sucks, compared to countries that have larger government programs.

Who has a larger poverty program than America?? Saudi Arabia? China? Please tell us.

Government programs don't go "bank rupt" unless they're under funded.

When expenditures exceed income, there is no more money left in the bank. Hence bank ruptcy.

Part of the problem with SS is the stupidity of capping the SS payroll tax at the $90,000 mark. There should be NO cap on SS payroll tax. It's the stupidity of the Republicans that allow this kind of thing to continue. We need to kick all the right wing doofuses out of office and put them back under the rock from which they came . Too many gullible people buy into the right wing drivel spewed out against the very things that would help them the most.

I am being robbed of freedom of choice by having no option to buy into Medicare or Medicaid which I would much rather have than stupid private health insurance that caused me to wait SIX months while waiting to have surgery approved, while spending countless hours trying to get that approval.

Lose that employer and you will find out that the unemployment check would not cover the COBRA...

Try paying a premium with a Tax credit....

$5000 will not buy very much insurance... Not for a family plan...

See how far Medical saving accounts go when the nation has negative saving .

If the US has such a great System...why don't the Health Ins Companies invade to world?

I think McCain's plan is a joke that won't even come close to solving the health care crisis in our nation. He is very out of touch with reality and what people go through dealing with private insurance companies. I say we have a Boston Tea Party and kick the private insurance industry to the curb where it belongs!!

I know..... Thanks for the input ......I have been through COBRA many time. Even had my COBRA
payments embezzled, years ago.....

Guess what you have no recourse. Self Funded plans are not regulated by the Insurance Commission,
and the Carrier does not have to notify you you coverage is ending.....

I might not sound real happy with the Best Health Care in the world....
I have paid a lot of money for crap... Not the medical care..... the paper work that some fat greedy clown is making 30% profit on....

Dollar Bill McQuire ... United Healthcare .... was paid $1.6 billion Dollars....

The tax credit is nothing but a special break for the rich. Both unnecessary and useless. We need REAL health care in this country, and NOW.

I think the idea of allowing people who are middle class and wealthy to buy into Medicaid and/or Medicare before reaching retirement age is a good option. Medicaid is a decent medical plan, intended for the poor, and actually offers more benefits than private insurance companies while also keeping the copays reasonably low. If the rich and the middle class could buy into the Medicaid system, it would help provide funding for Medicaid while also being able to provide health care coverage for the poor. It amazes me that the private health care industry is so greedy and evil that people are being ROBBED of the option to buy OUT of private health insurance.

Both McPain in the (unprintable) and Shillary are bought out by the private insurance industry and will NEVER get my vote. Obama is willing to look into a similar plan with a buy-in option. I think its about (unprintable) time that we have the option to buy into government based health insurance. I for one am sick and tired of private health insurance and the (unprintable) at United Health Care who paid itself over a billion dollars in one year while denying those in need the health care they signed up for

If you have a plan you like, you keep it. If you want to change plans or aren't currently covered, you can choose from dozens of the same plans available to members of Congress,

..............or you can opt into a public plan option like Medicare............

And working families will get tax credits to help pay their premiums.

I'm Canadian. Our healthcare is "free".
Free healthcare is not the answer- especially for the US... unless what you really want is less doctors, more lineups & an all around inefficient system with fewer advances in modern medicine

See, Universal Healthcare creates more misery. why do socialists want more misery?? Are they afraid of happy people? Everyone gets to have lousy healthcare, oh joy????
