so much override

some seem to live by....
words can not be taken back
so when they rear up for an attack
remember.... don't forget

yonder bounty shore
rimmed with weathered rocks
the night there I will moor
and dinghy to the docks
and with sea legs unsettled
I'll pay tribute to the piers
at the wharf side Keg and Kettle
I will drown in bounteous beers
and there I'll tell my story
of a passage most amazing
through the Straits of Glory
never more hair raising
beating 'gainst a gale
of towering proportion
three reefs in the sail
mast at topmost torsion
Neptune heard my screams
and paid them little heed
crashing o'er my beams
urging me to concede
to Aeolus I said "Fvck you"
have mercy on my spars
abandoned by my crew
dead reckoning by the stars
a tossing turning tub
sheets strained, about to tear
fingers feel like stubs
approaching deep despair
dreading a thunderous jolt
of hull against hidden granite
is there anything more cold
than this unforgiving planet
awash in a sailors dream
and mingled with his tears
echoing his blaspheme
and swallowing his fears
a bone cold shivering dread
oh death I am not ready
but the compass was well read
and ahead of me was the jetty
and beyond that the harbor lights

so sorry about the Clearwater "bump", Swanny. I spent a fair amount of my time as a youth around that glorious vessel; festivals, work weekends sanding and varnishing, chatting with Pete himself, never did crew on her, but my dad did. The amazing thing is how much cleaner the Hudson is now versus then. Thank-you Mr. Seeger!!!

Hope you get to crew eventually. Glad you liked my write; it was a true story from when I lived aboard in Boston. Plymouth harbor never looked so welcoming as on that chilly night.

this morning
i walked for a while
on lummi mountain
the steep trail
climbing toward
the western cliff
high above
the salish sea.
this morning
the trail was slippery
and the shadows cold
so i sat in the sun
on a nurse log
with loneliness
and love.
words are barely events
mostly they are
passages to deep life.
deep in me
missing bren and lili
i thought for a moment
their absence in my life
helps to show
why there are no leaves today
on scrub alder and vine maple.
but then i heard the wind,
and felt the late winter sun
on my face
and i learned that
in my life
there are always leaves
on the tangled forests inside me.
and i touched my love
and i know
that the sunshine
at my feet is love,
with her, is life
and so i stood
and climbed the trail
toward noon.

Tiffany had an epiphany
it happened the other day
changed her name to Golda My Ear
already with effect, I'd say

To not be named after a light shade
to not be mistaken for stained glass
to not sound like a pole dancing bimbo
or a debutante of highest class

Tiffany made her nose turn up
Tiffany made her haughty
Tiffany sounded like someone soft
or someone very naughty

So Golda it is and so it will stay
a harder ring to be heard
no more frilly nom de plume
you take her for her word

What's in a name you might ask
while feeling comfortable wearing your own
but if the hat don't fit the head
that it sits upon

then trade it in for something apt
a moniker more in tune
with the song you sing each day
just call me "Buffoon"
