we've already almost been defeated before
let's leave that to some other guy

Beautifully put, Ash you are! Course none of us can judge how deep is the hurt that Silver is feeling but it can't hurt, can it, if enough of us keep on telling her how badly she is missed!!

Hey Swan, got snowed in yesterday, on these mountain roads it stays that way until it melts. Can't even see the darn things to drive 'em. My thoughts and love are hovering in your air space. For a change of pace, I'm going to post a story poem that I hope will make you smile.

Sundown Hero

Five gunslingers rode to a one-horse town,
the boss in front then his bully-boy gang.
Weak-winter sky sagged headn for sundown
trouble's comin just around the bend.

Street soon acquired the hush of a grave
could hear crickets singin that evenin.
No dirt-water folk's standin tall and brave,
too busy savin their hides and leavin.

There was one that day, payed 'em no mind-
an old prospector unloadin his gear.
His faithful partner, a donkey half blind
covered with a month of Sunday's prayers.

The leader bored lookin to play a game,
one old man made a natural target.
Drawing his revolver, feeling no shame
commenced shootin a dancin tune.

While bullets sang into the dusty street,
loud-rude laughter came from the ugly crew.
But the old man didn't glance at his feet,
just waited calmly staring straight and true.

Something knowin in the prospectors eye
made the man holster his gun 'n turn away.
A voice graveled, “Boy, you're about to die!”
spinnin round saw a 12 gage a-winkin.

The prospector said “Ever kiss an ass?”
Outlaw answered, “Hell no, but I've hankered to.”

Suffer the Children

Mother your children are crying, for years they'll bear the scars
that you carve on tender flesh and bones
scrimshawed dead whale songs in yellowed ivory
They're not accessories in your life like a purse or watch
a whim to indulge, an enemy to crush
or revenge for what has perverted you
Hitting them hard enough so they damn well
better not try to get up again, the son-of-a-****es
that'll teach them right from wrong....

Mother your children are dying, red handed bloodstains
won't wash away in any river of denial
Living on as cave art pictographs of the slain
who grew skilled at haunting themselves
Sins of the mother and father passed on
generations sealing souls to disrepair
Fine tuned, throwing themselves away
off convenient cliffs they fly to fall
not owning any parachutes

Mother your children are trying, the crippling pain
of acid washed hearts, seeking a better life
Straightening bowed limbs, grafting hope
staggering baby steps towards the light
Learning that love doesn't have to hurt
and worth was inherently given at birth
Some never rising from their graves
others healing with interesting stigmas
call them the lucky ones

Posting my rant in your nest my silver friend, be well take care , your scars are beautiful

How deeply I admire the whole of this:

that'll teach them right from wrong....

and all the rest of this marvellous poem! I was struck by this in particular

and worth was inherently given at birth

both for the nobility of the thought and because it reminded me of my own, as yet unfinished

Every child is born a hero
or a poet,
and sometimes both

and I happened to be in touch with our host as she was planning to respond to you with

i have known so little of life
there have been no summers
no springs tasting of sweet mornings
there have been no voyages
just those i imagined from books

which,, she told me, was going to be a “bad” poem since she has lately been out of practice and I affectionately mocked her, challenged her to make it as bad as she could...but as you can plainly see, she failed!!!

Stars nova, weeping loss
Yearning darkness inhaled galaxies
that God replaced gently, effacing time

With Gaia's blessings
came the Daoine Sídhe
Angels who took no side
in God or Lucifer's
crimson handed combat

Earthbound exiles
never to enter heaven or hell
Trailing radiant dimension's
storm clouds in their wake

Eons passed unnoticed
Feasting in palace mounds
and riding lily-white palfreys;
braided ribbons, charms and bells
in their tossing manes and tails
Jaunt through sweet-grass meadows
singing praises to the moon

A daughter of man drew close
to the quicksilver music one eve
As she listened was transformed
bright moonlight, married her soul

Her heirs carry this Elven gift
rare art and silver-tongued poetry
sometimes skipping generations
Yet full flower in mad poets
Penning soft-moonlit magic

I had to look up a number of these references and am bowled over by the wealth of references in the whole of this. I'll be eager to see Swan's response to it.

And the reflection
that gave beauty to
a dying world,
came from the wings
of a
Silverswan,
rebirth
began
with a single act
of kindness.

Merry Xmas dear lady!

with love.......Manny!

Is rapture a response? or a long well I fall into willingly
allowing the sweet depths to swallow me whole
and rebirth me to astonishment and wonder?

I too am glad to see you back even if it's in a bleak mood!

Illusion's reality...Cinderella's shredded gown
glazes window's phantomed history.

Wednesdays child's favorite panties
sewn with Sunday's name;
for beauty,
for grace.

Broken glass slippers skipping path
happily-ever-after bygone play.

Years,

slipped through small hands
reality's illusion...interceding,
fantasy games fading.

Splashing, golden lunar tides
invoke peaceful forest spells.
Shades of blue, indigo, cyan
pale annunciation hues

Awaken Ella, to enchantment:

Trees scratching night-velvet scars
forgetting roots are bound.

Snow, glistening diamonds
in banks with no money.

Lake you can walk on
skating god's dedications.

Nature never had to grow up.

Swan you know I don't know much of anything except that I am an egg, an ugly duckling pecking my shell reaching for the light. I keep bringing my spells here because I know your poets heart. I love you for that and for so many other fine qualities you have you Silver Sorceress.

Manny, Jer, Brizo, Ash, Autum Fantisy and Wintersnot (tissue?) good to see you singing to Swan. I add my song to yours and wish her a frekin prosperous New Years!

I leave to take care of some things in my work life
I HEAR a cry thru the line what is this my dear swan
You who shows us all the breath of life shall close a door
OOhh no my dear you shall not pass thru the night in silence...

What a lovely - and well-deserved - tribute! I will alert Swan lest she miss this.

Yes, sometimes we all feel this way:

sometimes the beatings were welcome
so much better than being ignored

But thank God or your own invincible spirit that:

that great runner
who would meet the winds
of change and chance
take the huge joke of life in stride
howling with glee into the air

So howl on my dear friend - and the friend of so many here - your howling with glee is a reminder of who you are!

Lightning rod decisions of a moth
who can't help but fly into flames
Sincerely natural, slightly smoldering
taking leave to cooler climes
Prospects of high water healing
soothing checkered-burning wings

Departing for the Atlantic
mercurial Pacific badly named
Drawn by Atlantian memories
to renewing pools of wisdom
and ancient temple ceremonies
that lay slumbering in the past
shrouded in fluid dreamtime

Following her instincts
might seem a foolish thing
Impetuous and reckless
risking such fragile collateral
as gossamer limbs to flames

Born to live in obscure shadows
drawn perpetually to light
Nothing to do with wrong or right
it simply is her flight

I'm kind of weak from being sick and trying to spread myself as far as I can. Wrote this in the morning on SherrLoves's thread and am bring it here to perch on your silver branches beating it's slightly scorched dusty wings. Got Water?

swannie, nice to see you posting again!

fall guy

you loved me
and you took the fall
through layers of depression
I would crawl
and rage so unexpressed
that I would bawl
I was so out of touch
that every drinking bout
turned to a verbal brawl
and in the end
our love just couldn't take it all
you loved me
and
you took the fall

would that this parched and scorched soul had seas of moist hope
waves of wonder tidaling oer your tender toes
i can but offer the small tears of gratitude
that we each are pure pools of friendship
for one another

and

I skate upon the pool of you
the river of you
the ocean of you

And yet, and yet
what is in our hearts
may not be in our hands...

Three Ships in the Harbour

On one of them the love you were promised
waits at a table set for two.
On another one, death waits.
And on the third, an orphan
stands at the prow and scans the shore.

Hmm...

We all run
sometimes it is easier
to run and hide
then really to ever
truly confide
we all run

one day
we have to take
our lives in the
palm of one hand
to make a stand
one day

hard times
show all we ever
already know
friendship climbs
fools decline
an honesty not to
be defined
hard times

still here
still clear
still full of fear
people come and people go
like coastal routes
they ebb and flow
add to the mix
muddy the water

fairy tales on paper be
hard knocks a reality
these things ultimately
define me
refine me
will never confine me

so throw the cudgel before the mast
strong intent will ever last
sound of spirit this will renew
tired flagging parts of you

any slur you can parry
to the next you must not tarry
life is an ever unfolding scene
its true differentiation from the dream

SLIME

It's everywhere, isn't it
it's where you expect it will be
where the rest of the garbage festers
and it's where you least expect it
where you never would imagine
not in one million trillion years

It isn’t possible to tell at whom these sad, angry words are directed, but could you possibly be over-reacting and even if not so, could you not ignore the few who wounded you in favour of the many who so deeply appreciate you?
