Hey sleeps: You got to look at it from the head office pointof view. Last year when they hired Miller that was Ritchies Walking papers as far as im concerned. And theres no question he will be missed. He did alot of Sask as a player and a coach. But you can't expect a guy of his caliber stay a Def coordinator for the rest of his life. He won a grey cup in 07 aswell, And Tillman had to let Austin walk aswell. The CFL is a development league and players andcoaches will come and go all the time as we have seen in the past 2 years. It is almost impossible to keep a Grey cup winning team together now that the NFL looks at the best in the CFL. And the CFL can sign the best in the CFL. Look at clermont to the riders. Would you keep Ritchie and not take Clermont? The CFL is a constant cycle. Lose one , gain one.

As Tillman stated, we're no longer the loveable losers. The Saskatchewan Roughriders are not only legitimate Grey Cup contenders, but under Tillman it has become a well-respected organization from top to bottom. I don't think we'll do all that bad if Marshall returns to Saskatchewan to take over on the defensive side of the ball. But indeed Richie is going to be sadly missed. Perhaps one day we'll get him back.

Hopefully with Clermont's signing and Gibson leaving for the Ti-Cats, this will be Dominguez's wake-up call to take a co-ordinator job with the team. He's got to realize his ability to walk in his later years of life is far more important than trying to prove to us all that he can still run and catch a football.

Tillman's done good so far signing a few key free agents. Now we've got Durant, Frazier, Williams, and Johnson locked in. Reading Mo Lloyd's comments it sounds like he wants to stay here, but who knows. I'm guessing it was either Kerry or Reggie who he was referring to when he said there were some players who wish they had never left.

That's what Tillman brings to the Roughriders... he somehow has a way to turn a franchise into something that makes players reconsider whether the grass was really greener on the other side. Kerry once signed for less money than he could get elsewhere. With the salary cap, it's not like one team can buy every good player, so eventually there will either be pay cuts or roster cuts. A playe really has to consider whetheror not they really want to make more money on a losing team. The money sure didn't seem to make K-Jo very happy, did it?

I think that's something Lloyd might take into consideration, though it sounds like the Lions are his other choice. I'm pretty sure that's why they let Clermont go; so that we wouldn't have enough money to counter their offer to Maurice. I guess we'll see. Tillman's got a few weeks to prevent that from happening.

I hate to ask this but I really don't know and I couldn't find the answer at CFL.ca
What does a player have to do or say to get ejected from a game?
I popped into a pub to pick up some take out food and the TV was on TSN A player ( # 98 ) was being escorted from the field in todays Winnipeg vs BC game.
I have never seen that before. The pub was playing music so I didn't catch what the ref said .

Well we can't be sure but I think it would have went something like this:
"Toronto Maple Leafs will win the Stanley Cup this year."

Of course it may have been more football related and less ridiculous but he may have said , "Yo ! Tom Higgins(head of CFL referees) sucks my....."

BUT still I would guess it had something to do with terminating life....a person's sexual preference and racial origins combined with offers to allow cunniligis (however spelt) to be performed by ref (or his mother) on various parts of the guy's anatomy.

But I am only guessing!

I don't even remember the last time it happened.

I'm pretty impressed with Durant this year. He's had a couple of bad games, but he always comes back. He's making smart plays. I remember McManus's first few years in the league and he threw a lot of pics. I see Durant fixing that part of his game a lot faster than Danny did. Of course it helps when you've got probably the best receiving corps in the league. I know Montreal's is pretty good, as is Calgary's and BC's, but we've just got way more depth there than they do, and we've had that depth for quite a few years now.

I remember a lot of shitty seasons over the past 30+ years, and a few "almost" seasons. It's nice to finally see a first place finish.

This team's depth is it's strongest point; and the biggest difference between the Rider teams of recent years and some of the shitty teams of the 80s and the 90s.
(I could be wrong but) I believe in 07 and 08 the Riders lost the most man games due to injuries of any team in the leaque. Despite this, they finished 2nd each of those seasons, and won the Grey Cup in 07.
This season, despite losing a couple of starting O linemen for the entire season, they managed a 1st place finish.
It's quite a difference from the mid 90s, when at the end of every season the Riders management would blame 1 or 2 injuries as the entire reason the team missed the playoffs.

Not to mention the early 00's when poor officiating was blamed for all of our woes. Funny how that worked, wasn't it? Austin comes in, stops making excuses, and suddenly the players are excelling. It's not like we always had bad players before... most of them went on to have success with other teams. Fact was we didn't have management nor coaching that expected anything from them. All they did was live up to the expectations. Which is what they did for Austin... he just happened to have some for a change.

So Rider faithful!! It looks as though the Riders will need to go into next weekend needing to beat Calgary to get to the Grey Cup......THEY MUST NOT LOSE for the 4th time this year against the Stamps.
Do you know how difficult that is to do against a well coached team , last year's Grey Cup winners with really good players...the best running back in the league (in cold weather added to it) and with a huge chip on thier shoulders and confidence after wiping the field with Eskimo pie today????

But these kids we cheer for have a resilience I have never seen before.....even in Lancaster days....if it had not been for ONE player...George Reed....who pulled out unbelieveable wins. (with all due respect to some other great players....Reed was the "worh horse" and made alot of other players look alot better.

But this team seems to find "team wins" no matter who goes down! Frankly I have never been more proud to have Rider Pride!!

THEY MUST NOT LOSE for the 4th time this year against the Stamps.

You mean in their 4th meeting, right? They won 2 of the other 3, and didn't lose the third one neither. It would be a shame if they started their losing streak to Calgary on Sunday.

To be honest... Calgary is a stronger team than Edmonton, but I like our chances against them better than I did against Edmonton. The Eskimos seemed to have our number this year. Richie Hall knows our team too well.

I hope it's as good of a game as it should be. The only thing worse than losing that game would be if it was like last year's West semi. But we don't have Bishop this year, so that should make a considerable difference.

Ya soory about the poor clarity...what I mean is that is difficult to meet the same team 4 times in a year and not lose at least one of those games.....of course this game means one more chance and you are out! However, had they lost one game during the season to the Stamps, Sunday's game would be being played in Calgary....so I am hoping that this is just one of those things that is meant to be!!
Only right that the Riders would be playing for a Grey Cup in Calgary!!

Ya and i wonder how much the Richie Hall familiarity played in their having the Riders number

Well... here we go. We've got another shot. I'm kinda glad we're taking on the Als. We haven't beat them all year. I can't remember the last time we went an entire season without beating them at least once. So this should be the game.

It was nice to get some third quarter points for a change too. Good thing too. We'd have lost otherwise. I kinda figured we matched up better against the Stamps though. Looks like that held true.

Man I'd love to be in Calgary next weekend. But the last time I went to a Grey Cup, we lost. That's why I stayed away from the game this weekend. Last time I went to a Rider home playoff game, we lost that one too. I'm just meant to experience the big wins on TV.

This was the team's best 3rd quarter of the year.
It was a good thing they had a great 3rd quarter after a poor first half.

I was afraid of Edmonton.
The Riders struggled against Edmonton all year, and I was relieved to learn we wouldn't have to face them. I don't really think Edmonton had a better team than Calgary or Sask. The Riders just didn't play great against them this year.

Saskatchwan people!!
I do appreciate your comments on here ...at least from those few who have commented.
I just checked out the Alberta thread and there appear to be more Rider fans there than here....come on now surely some of those fans have moved back in recent years?

It sounds as though there maybe a few tickets for the grey Cup game availble through there....Stamp fans are bailing faster than sailor in a sinking boat.

Its time for Rider Pride....

The Saskatchewan board is pretty dead these days. Not like years ago.

Speaking of which, I've been spending too much time around here. It's been fun. I'm sure I'll be around again some day, but I've got to get away for now.

Have fun, and keep on bleeding green. I know I will.

Holy sh!t, you got that right...got on kijiji right after the Riders kicked a$$, and snagged couple of tickets $300 each. Now a pair of tickets are going for around the $1500 mark...surprised that these Calgarians would sell their tickets rather than be part of a party-of-all-parties and watch an awesome football game...tsk tsk

But you know what they say...Calgary is Saskatchewan's biggest city

While the Montreal Allouettes fought a hard played game and are to be congratulated as the official champions of the 2009 Grey Cup, it might be debatable about whether they were the deserving team on this day on Nov 29/2009.

Nevertheless, they did what they had to do and WERE CERTAINLY NOT UNDESERVING.

But the Riders, as more often then not, showed they are winners....not by winning Grey Cups...but by endearing themselves to their fans and by bringing an excitement and vigor to the Canadian Football League....and football fans everywhere. WHO APPRECIATE GOOD EXCITING AND COMPETITIVE FOOTBALL.

Since some smart alecs appear to have a tendency to untastefully deride the Riders at this point and refer to bad calls...(I assume against the Als , they mean)....this shows who the truly ignorant football fans are....or should I say ANTI-FANS.

The play in the endzone that the commentator (who is usually quite on the mark) seemed to over emphasize that he thought should have been a penality must have had the same mental lapse that someone on the Riders did with the 13th man.
It is very clear that the Montreal reciever ran RIGHT AT the Rider defender....ya it maybe somewhat true that your shoulders should not be turned, but when a reciever runs right at a defender and into that defender THAT IS NOT A PENALITY.... the ball was likely uncatchable anyway. THATS WHY THE REF DIDN"T CALL IT.
And if anyone wants to hint that the refs were favoring the Riders ....play back the last touch down drive by Montreal....the ball is tipped in the air....a Rider was on the verge of catching it and an Allouette grabs him before it can be caught....THATS INTERFERENCE...That very likely could have been the game right there and then....

And don't even get me started about the cheap "Spearing" shot (also could have been called as a penality) that Cox took at Bagg on Sask'S last offensive play.

The Ref-ing was actually quite fair all game long with few penalties called. They happily let the players play and work out minor infractions...besides both teams are quite disciplined for the most part.
.
....two very good teams met....and a fluke made the difference.....there should not be cause for either side to gloat ...no matter who would have won.

Lastly in closing, just for general advice:
-its not "Cool" to act like a "wannabee" on a public sight and flaunt abs like as if they are something special....we a few have few thousand soldiers who are just as fit and putting thier lives at risk daily....now thats cool.
-its not "Cool" to be an Eskimo fan....and yet even most Eskimo fans know better than to rub defeat in......they had to lick Stampeder boots this year & we all know they are covered in Horse manure
-its not "Cool" to call yourself "Cool". If you have to do it, then you defintely are NOT it.

my 2 cents

was not just the last play of the game, the last quarter Montreal picked up alot of points, sure the 13 men didnt help in the end, but maybe it should have never gotten down to the last few seconds of the game??? eh?

I'm still wearing my Riders Shirt with pride. Fact is that the Al's were the favored team to start with, and we (SK) played extremely well. Lost by 1 point. That was a great game.
