I would see nothing but good things coming from leagalizing this, just the fact that you could then regulate and control it for more public saftey.

CHEATING is what's wrong in this scenario-what's the difference between a single guy or woman getting somebody all zapped up on alcohol and dinner, then doing it and then to vanish in the ethosphere? (Notice my delicate balancing act regarding both sexes...!) Please tell me-morals, constitutional bullshi*; taxes; votes-what?? if you made prostitution legal ...to many wives would have to get off their lazy butts and go stand on a street corner ..or starve to death ...dont get me wrong I never married for sex ..but if sex had been legal safe and readily available...without being stigmatized ... I would have been too busy having fun and spending the money I saved not dating ...to ever look for a wife ...I have spent well over $200 on a date and not got so much as a kiss or thank you and got shot down when I asked to take her out again and spend more on her ...count the house that she got and the car that she got and the ring that i never got back ...not to mention the regular maintenance of keeping her for three years ...my first marriage ...the sex that I got cost me ..up in the thousands of dollars per piece ..now thats what I call a high dollar hooker ...nope wont ever happen it would deflate the price of puzzy too much

actually...I am here just for the forums ...I have had a long life and have been in and out of many lifestyles .... I came here during a break up with my wife ...we are back together and happy ....but now im hooked on the forums ...my posts dont always reflect my current lifestyle .... mainly because my current lifestyle has no bearing on most sexual topics ...as I am now currently married and monogamous ...and probably will be for the rest of my life ...but not being involved does not mean that I do not have an opinion or knowledge on a subject
thank you for your concern for my well being ...and when I was a younger man your concern would have had merit ...now my input on a more illicit lifestyle comes from memory and opinion

If prostitution was legalized globally, and not just reserved for places like Nevada and Amsterdam (that I know of), this would throw the entire dichotomy of the male/female dynamic into uncontrollable tailspins.


Actually, Jinx, the US and Canada are some of the few countries where prostitution IS illegal, or at least, where any effort is made to enforce it, e.g., Elliot Spitzer. It's been three decades, but the Navy sailed my butt around the world. Prostitutes were freely available, and open about it, in Barcelona, but not Lisbon, Hamburg (and Kiel), but not Bergen or Copenhagen (no real need for "the solution" there), Trinidad, Brazil, Mozambique, Madagascar, Kenya, Singapore, Hong Kong (before the Brits lost their lease!), Japan (very pricey, because you had to pay the girl AND the mama-san to get her out of the bar). I was in Sri Lanka days after they kicked out the Brits, everyone was in the streets celebrating while the currency went to hell, but a dollar went a loooooong way there (rivaled only by Recife, where $2US was good for the girl, the room, and for the length of your stay). Great Britain, Bahrain, and Portugal seemed to enforce the prohibition against sex-for-hire. Italy was, uhhh, lenient, but in deference to the proximity of the King of the church, the sin was still codified.

I had a law partner in Oklahoma, married, three kids, who chased all the short skirts. His wife was aware, but her rule for him was tolerant: one-nighters aren't worth a tantrum, but repeats will cost you.

Personally I think it should be legalized, licensed and taxed like some other countries do.

Furthermore, I can understand what you meant about withholding sex, but if the man went to a hooker or any other women, or if she thought he would, then it would probably be the end of the relationship anyway.

My ex-girlfriend once refused to put out for a month or two so I assumed she had been cheating on me. I threatened to go to Canada and get a hooker instead, which I could have easily done, so it wasn't like an empty threat. She told me to go ahead. I was in total shock and disbelief.

Maybe I'm alone in my thinking here, but I dont see legalizing prostitution as having any impact on male/female relationships and sex. I just don't think the majority of men use the legality issue as a reason to not go to a prostitute. You are either inclined to want that kind of sex, or you're not and it becoming legal wont turn the 'not inclined' into considering it.

For me personally I could never go to one. The fact of paying to be with someone would completely turn me off. I only want to have sex with someone that wants to have sex with me! As for people withholding sex from SOs in order to get something - thats just stupid and childish. Sex should be about two people who want to enjoy each other intimiately. If one party isnt getting something they want in a relationship, sexual or otherwise, they should communicate it before resorting to sexual blackmail. I never have and never will be in a relationship with that kind of idiotic game-playing.

the guy above is right; I think it's more a matter of whether you would pay for sex with a woman who fvcks 5-10 guys day for money, or not (I am firmly in the NOT camp..); I agree, I want to be with someone who WANTS to be with me, not who is doing a quick toss for money.

if it were legal, I think that cops and prosecutors, etc. could focus on REAL crimes (murder, rape, armed robbery, etc.) a little more and not waste so much time, money, and manpower on this triviality..

observation shows that LAWS don't change behavior much..

the US has some of the strictest/harshest anti-drug laws in the Western world.. AND one of the highest percentage drug-use rates.

The rate of abortions in countries where it is illegal, and where it is legal, run roughly the same..the only difference is that in the former, they are done 'secretly'..in the 'black market'..often by medically unqualified & unregulated people..

it was observed in previous centuries in Britain when they publicly hanged people for pickpocketing..pickpockets were working the crowd as they watched the hangings..

No, you're not alone - I think (and have always thought) exactly the same thing. I know that I don't depend on the law to tell me what "feels" right (or wrong) to me...I didn't say whether it was right (or wrong) for everybody...just what "feels" right to me.

I would HOPE that the MAIN reason that most men DON'T have sex with prostitutes now is NOT merely because of a fear of being prosecuted under the law..

but because they prefer a loving, 'real' relationship to paid, casual sex.

If it were the case that it was only fear of the law, I would be ashamed for men in general, as a man..

It is a real job. Apart from the legality, it's a real business, with expenses and overead, market research and advertising. Did you think that they just get paid to have fun lying on their backs? In reality, the number of enjoyable clients an sees are not that many (unless she's lucky) and most of the time they spend working is pent doing things other than what you think. I have a friend in the business. She maintains an apartment for 1000.00/month which needs to be cleaned daily. She shops for food and beverages for her incall. She sees fewer than two clients/day, yet she is there from at least 10-4 every day and has never taken a vacation in the many years she's been in business. She obviously has to provide her own health insurance and she pays taxes. In order to run a business that's profitable, she has to do a lot more than the average person who just shows up to work and collects a paycheck. The hourly rate drops considerably when you figure all of those other hours. However, the pay is still better than the typical job one gets with a college degree (she is college educated.) Just because it's not for you doesn't mean it isn't a job.

kind of disgusting to think about paying a stranger for sex. however since there is an appetite for it, prostitution is never going to go away. -like any other habit or contraband (pot, cocaine, gambling) -the only thing that trying to stop a vice does is create a seedy underground and violence, causing more damage than good. -look at what happaned when alcohol was banned in the US. back in the early 20's. organized crime and bootleggers with their bathtub gin killed scores or innocent -(and not so innocent) as well as the mayhem that created such a mess -were still feeling it today -look at how many non-violent people are sitting in prison for smoking a plant that grows naturally. -were dictated by a bunch of f@cking idiots in washington trying to run our lives -i'm hoping they all get brain or ass tumors (who knows which end they are thinking with) -so we can give them greedy FDA perscriptions and tell them to go home and die. - (smoke and mirrors -they have a different agenda than what they tell us).
If these vices that are frowned on were legalized and regulated, not only would taxes be generated, -im quite sure we would not hear as many horror stories about teens being kidnapped for prostitution or runaways selling their bodies in back alleys. violence would drop since the market would be opened up to competition for the legal dollar. (you dont hear about wal-mart spraying target with machine gun fire -cuz they are having a great sale)
As it goes right now its a moral issue. however trying to stop it dead causes more harm than good.

it might not be such big bucks..supply & demand; if so many new 'workers' entered the 'workforce' of sex workers the average fee they could command would likely drop off quite a bit..

That started happening when the internet became commercialized. The vast majority of women in the 300/hr range are single moms.

welfare lines would all but dissapear due to tax revenues coming in .... but would def change the come home greeting , it would change from " how was your day " to " how many today "


You assume that her SO actually knows. You would be surprised at how many husbands are so oblivious to what their wives do that they don't even suspect their wives are escorts during the day while hubby is at work. (That ought to clue in a few guys to pay more attention to their wives so their wives don't find someone else to pay attention t them - as a career.)

they are now..you live in Ottawa? cruise the Market area, you can find pros out there..I've seen them before, unless there are women that "like to" stand in the cold for hours waiting for a ride that never comes, but talking to every car driver that stops by..and taking off for 15 mins. with 'some' of them'..or Richmond Rd. West? (at least when I was in Ottawa I saw that)..but I also saw a cop 'sting' operation happening there too.

I would think that WORSE possible consequences than the law's 'punishment' could include:

1- getting beaten or knifed; ripped off for your money, by her and/or her pimp(s)

2- catching a disease from her

3- having people know that you frequent prostitutes..If you subsequently Do want to have a relationship with a woman, I'm fairly sure that most would 'not be impressed' with the fact that you had frequented prostitutes

Depends on what you mean by ``counseling.'' In this case, I can't imagine how that could even be possible.

Removing the stigma of illegality and shadiness associated with it would, IMO, have a HUGE impact on dating, for both men and women.

It sure would. The cost for a prostitute would drop and guys would have to ask themselves, ``Do I want to pay $100.00 to get laid or go out to dinner?'' Eventually, all women would charge for dates, which would only formalize the way dating happens already and make it clear up front. They could add a place in the profiles here for a rate.

Seriously, whether you think this or that law is ill-advised, you CAN still be arrested for flouting it. There ARE some men who shy away from the possible consequences of solicitation, regardless of how unlikely prosecution is. You may have a 99.99% chance of "getting away" with solicitation, for example: but, if you're that 0.01%, rotsa ruck.

In the US, guys really only have a risj of arrest if they solicit a streetwalker, but lots of guys who solicit streetwalkers, do it for exactly that thrill in the risk of being arrested. Getting arrested in a sting set up as an incall is probably less likely than being hit by lightning. The risk for the women is higher.
