Moraima, you are seriously confused. I was very obviously talking about VolcanoKing and HawkingJr. I think everyone here understood this, with you as the lone exception. Pig has pointed this out, and you refuse to go back and re-read?

The fact of the matter is, I liked VolcanoKing (with the one exception), and I like HawkingJr (with the same lone exception).

1) wow, old General Hospital reference. Bonus points, there.

2) Mori, I guessed Pig looked like the actor from a TV show and got confirmation, so I beat you on that score. And you got Henry's reference incorrect. its nice to see you put the mental in judgemental :) lol At least you're honest about not being called understanding very often.

3) on a more serious note, Cooldog's point taken a step further--I hate videos about people being excluded from groups, feeling alone...and they pick a hot actor to represent that person. Why not get someone more overweight, average looking, etc ? But as for the Viagra commercial, I guess it would have an effect on a man that he has an attractive wife and still can't get it up. But to agree with something Mori pointed out before, I suspect those commercials are also preying on male ego. but then, what advertising isn't trying to reach us on the animal level? maybe one of the cheekiest TV shows was about advertising, the financial reason TV shows exist.

4) love is perhaps unique to each individual, b/c it has so much to do with personality? But then its hard to sell love at Valentine's and Mother's day if its so unique. Maybe its like a black hole, we recognize its presence by its effects.

The movie Trainwreck was on TV late last night/this morning, caught the middle part where Bill Hader's character is bringing Amy's to a speech, and he questions her choice of a dress (the type worn to a bar) instead of a gown. Yet as soon as he sees an argument coming on, he drops it. Maybe he was passive-aggressively realizing she was the one who was going to look bad, b/c he had ladies at the event responding favorably to him? But he finally got angry when Amy's character took a fun experience away from him.

seems like his character was a bit passive, not standing up for himself a lot of the time and avoiding arguments as a result...and not having had a relationship in 6 years and then being with a sex kitten might also sway his decision on the relationship his character had, but...how long does that love last?

5) BCC took his photo down, is that the forum equivalent of your roommate leaving a towel on the doorknob?

I don't remember much about the movie because I was doing my best to tune it out, but I do recall this character being a complete pu$sified pansy, and this is the type of "man" we are commonly seeing in movies these days. I pity the fool who is influenced by this garbage and tries to emulate it.


It's a movie with lessons, which I dislike in movies. I just want entertainment.


You don't want to learn anything or perhaps see things in a different perspective. Shocking. Forrest Gump was chock full of lessons, yet was still entertaining.

It was supposed to be a comedy, but I didn't think so. I believe her goal was to make a man act like a woman in some regards to show women that we look ridiculous sometimes. It's been a long time since I've seen the movie, so I can't recall specifics. That pansy demeanor is not a good look on women either.

Every movie is conveying something. People will take away different things from the same movie that support the way they feel already, so not necessarily a lesson learned. First and foremost, a movie should be entertaining.

Well, as long as it doesn't have that "after school special" twang to it -- movies with a story that teach lessons technically, or reveal the better path when it's not so black & white, and drawn out thru a sweet plot to convey the moral/ethical point, is good entertainment.

Maybe its b/c i'm watching NOVA right now, explaining how dogongs in the Forbidden City of China, allow for the heavy tile roofs to shift around in earthquakes yet be decorative, but...I don't mind a movie that entertains and educates. Many experiences in life can be humorous (if one has a cynical humor, I guess) and yet educational. Or maybe its human nature's predictability. Anyway, Bill Hader's character probably did the "Classic female lead" (whatever it may be, I admit to a lack of knowledge) role, but it also showed passivity and perhaps enabling.

ironically, I used to hate Eng Lit professors who tried to find meaning in everything, like a scene in the movie Platoon, when the good sargent is carrying a heavy machine gun over his shoulders, as soldiers did--supposedly that was to represent Christ bearing His cross. (oh pulllleaaaze). but a movie that doesn't reflect human nature in the least, I don't think strikes a chord with us. There has to be some connection, and inevitably...how can there not be a lesson learned? If a movie isn't about the mental growth of a character, learning how to mature in a challenge...is it entertaining? We may like to watch the stunts and special effects, but if a character has to "Step up", then its gripping. and stepping up, turns naturally into a lesson, right?

I like educational shows like ones on Nova, but that was supposed to be a funny movie, and they misrepresented what the movie was about. No where does it say roll reversal.

Synopsis: Ever since her father drilled into her head that monogamy isn't realistic, magazine writer Amy (Amy Schumer) has made promiscuity her credo. As much as she enjoys an uninhibited life free of commitment, Amy is really in a rut. While writing a profile about charming and successful sports doctor Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), she finds herself actually falling in love for the first time -- and what's more, Aaron seems to like her too. Amy starts to wonder if it's time to clean up her act.

I suspect that any comedy that has character growth--say, an Adam Sandler movie, except I can't figure out whether I should put the word "comedy" or "growth" inside quotes--probably can be "educational", except we adults figure we already know the lesson (Grow up and do the right thing), so we don't see it as education. I was going to say, sci fi movies are likely not educational, but I think even Star Trek TV shows back in the day were trying to make a statement about US-Sino relations.

I must have been hungry when I wrote "roll" or I did voice to text and didn't proofread.

Pig, you deserve to be sat in a chair, tied to it, then forced to watch "Trainwreck" on a loop for 24 hrs. The film is about role reversal, with her professed storyline as a secondary plot. Her portrayal of what a man is thru her role isn't very complimentary.

Mustang guy, if you're familiar with Amy, you would see her comedy tends to be about women and showing how stupid/silly they look while acting like women. Bill has that job in this movie.
