Cure/treat at any costPage 1 of 1
Sparked by recent local TV news article.

Advances in modern science and medicine have meant we can cure or improve the condition of many illnesses and diseases but often this incurs a hugh cost either for an individual treatment or collectively for a group of treatments.

Do we, if we can, offer treatment regardless ? Do we stick to a budget ? Should we increase costs (taxes) for all to address this ? How do we balance what is now available with regards to moral responsibilty against fiscal/economic responsibilty ?

My heart and my head are really at odds over this one.

Yep - thats the question. Do you or don't you? How and why?
What criteria if you do? What cost if you don't?
In some cases even if we said at any cost we couldn't because cures could involve materials that are too rare or take too long to produce for all needy causes?

in response to those who accuse drug companies if profiteering, new drugs take years to develope and test, sometimes at the cost of billions of pounds and once on the market the company only has an exclusive licence for 10 years to manufacture these new drugs. After that any drug company can manufacture them. If these drug companies didn't make big profits they wouldn't be able to develope new drugs. The blame for lack of money in the NHS should be heaped on the Labour and Tory idiots who have created so many layers of new management over the years and created so much extra paperwork that only administrators can do. Last year was the first time ever when admin staff outnumbered clinical staff in the NHS. And people wonder where the money is going? Do people also know that the NHS has a projected UNDER spend of over £1 billion this year!!!
Before anyone asks, I am a registered nurse with over 20 years service
