my music teacher said to me once..if you want to be a good guitar soloist, then learn to solo like a saxaphone player or trumpet and or any other instrument including voice...
anything by Vai...call it sleep is one of my favs
anything by Satch..friends is my fav.
anything by Rhoads...over the mountain is my fav.
anything by Nuno...A song for love is my fav.
there are some great jazz players that know how to solo and the best part is that they do not repeat themselves.
Zakk once said that a solo should be like taking off in an airplane.
Howard Roberts once said to me a solo means you get to take the music to another place all by yourself(just so long as you know how to stay in key )
there are way tooooo many wankers in this world

there are very many boring players as well...
I suck at solos,so I would rather just play super super fast and be happy about it

I'm partial to Mark Knopfler's guitar solo on the Dire Strait's Sultans of Swing. It may not be the best solo ever (and then again it has to be at least considered) but it gets to me every time!

Pretty much any Primus song. The guy has nothing else to do but solo through most of the songs thanks to Les Claypool.

There are some I agree with and most I haven't heard, but my most memorable solo was when I saw Triumph live in Winnipeg. Rik Emmett played the solo on The Blinding Light Show from their first and best album start to end and, while good, the live effect was that the guitar work on that one was synched to a strobe.

While not guitar solos, I like the drum solos on Krokus' Stayed Awake All Night and Alice Cooper's Halo of Flies.

So many good ones. Probably my favorite overall guitar solo is Jimi Hendrix's ear-splitting, note-bending one from "Machine Gun", live with Buddy Miles on the drums. Jimi's piercing guitar and Buddy's thunderous drum roll still make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! Not to mention that song has the BADDEST-ASS bass line EVER.

How about drum solo's (says the drummer, LOL)? One of my favorites is John Bonham's in "Trampled Under Foot", right at the end of Jimmy Page's guitar solo (a great guitar solo, BTW). Bonham's jaw-dropping syncopation inspired me to pick up sticks myself!

And of course, anything drums by Buddy Rich. He could out-do a lot of other drummers with one hand. And no, I'm not exagerrating!

Anything on the bass with Les Claypool. Probably the most creative bassist I've ever heard, although Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pastorius are up there, too.

I'll stop there for now, LOL.

Cream the song Badge because the inflection and timing hitting the right notes at the right times to create tension in the song.
Hendrix Little Wing is great one because it uplifting feel to the solo.
BB king Thrill is gone is good because simplicity can express lots of things.
Van Halen Eruption love implusiness radomness of the song.
