How to spot a fake pic Page 1 of 4    (1, 2, 3, 4)
OK This was a Heads Up for me as I did not realize some of this stuff. Always wondered why some pics are blurry like that? I always think if some-one is real they would have a nice recent pic up there. Maybe we should all have to hold up a newspaper with a date on it or something like that? Kinda like when you get kidnapped. Not that we are, but sure would prove the date anyhow. I like family pics too so I can tell what their home life is like.

Some of mine are real but from a photoshoot...with a set that involves a room that looks "fake" and done by an excellent photographer....so you really can't make any hard and fast rules...

My only problem is when the pics are completely out of date, or if they use a famous person's picture claiming "Oh, everyone says I look just like him/her." You arn't them, so don't post their picture.

I agree (to some degree) with a previous statement, -just look at the pictures.
But she went on to say -it's not that hard.
Well there you lost me, because many of us know exactly why we are asked for picture after picture after picture ...
I got an apology today that came complete with a suggestion that I don't have those there because they "make men" act the way he did. It reminds me of the "blame the victim" rape ruling. I do not think that trying to meet people online is wrong but I don't think I need to have my pictures in every computer of every member on this site.

A couple of my own experiences include meeting someone and finding he had made my picture his screen saver and another took my photo and used a photo program to put a VERY trashy outfit on me - or I should say attached it to my head. Those are only two instances that I have personally encountered. Men who wouldn't do this kind of thing are baffled when we women grill you on what it is you want.

I have also gotten very funny emails from a lot of men who 'get it' or who just write a nice note and I'm sure hope like heck they could be so lucky as to be talking to the woman they are looking at. If I think they are in the second catagory and that maybe they aren't sure but won't ask, I'll write something like "Does this skirt make HER ass look big?" or "Look at my EYES!!!"
I am willing to play the online fishing game, but I'm not willing to take abuse.

I think it's fair to ask directly and then to be answered honestly.

...If a girl is fake and I lose interests and she comes back thinking I will give her another chance, is it wrong to be turned off by her now and by her new pic's ?[/qoute]

Part II
(laughing at myself)
cont. from post above

It sounds to me like you did ask and she came up with a 'fix' to 'hook' you.
Was it the pictures or the woman you found fake?
Was it her looks or personality you were judging?

Fishing starts with the bait, but there's more to the sport than getting them to bite.
If you aren't sure - ask. You have a right to know.
If she lies about it - that's something else entirely. And you have the right to know that too.

I get enough attention that I don't use the tactics you described, Shappy. I thought I was clear in the profile but it would seem that some people don't bother to read the words. Even got one response from a woman.
If all someone wants it "more pix" then they can use the ones on this profile. But NOT mine!

I think fakers or posers are just people with some insecurity issues, maybe some frustration at being judged by thier looks or whats on the profile, maybe even a hint of desparation to just talk to people?

I dunno. I don't think its gay people like I've heard some express. I think its something else. Hiding fer sure.

Having a picture and verification is by no means proof. The picture could be of a neighbor for all we know. As long as its not someone famous, no one WOULD know.

Before laws and rules can be put into place, there would need to be a way to establish definitive proof of identities. For all you know that "doctor" your talking to is really some 13 yr old kid.

And not everyone whose married is looking to cheat either.

If their spouse did go on here looking for them and they had a fake pic and fake profile info, then how could they get caught? exactly.

So best advise is, just be careful and use common sense.

I agree with the second posting. Alot of these people are just on here to chat and maybe flirt online and never plan on meeting anyone. They probly figure the best way to do that is to make an attractive profile.

Yes it decepetive, but they probly figure they aren't hurting anyone if it just harmless chatting and forum posting.

It is hard to enforce anything on posers/fakers as you can't really pin anything down unless they REALLY screw up. A good poser looks like anyone else. So just be careful.

real or fake... doesn't matter if the person isn't ever planning to meet anyone from here does it?

I'm just here for the forums and talking other people besides the 2 people I live with all the time.

I thought of another couple reasons people do it (in case anyone's interested):

- attractive females tend to get a more positive response and are treated with more patience and tolerance than the rest of us. So it may be that the person posing is just trying to get a civilized or kind response to a posting they made without the sarcasm or callousness or impatience people treat overweight or old or less attractive persons with.

- in real life if you rub some people the wrong way they never let you live it down, no matter how much you may change or repent your ways. And your not always allowed to start over, therefore having to live with your decisions. I think the internet has made it possible to get a fresh start.

And no matter how much you might ignore them or report them, they are still there bugging you or trying to humiliate you in front of everyone.

If someone in a chat room or forum is arguing with you, trying to embarrass you or just won't let you live a previous posting down but you want to keep posting to the thread or chat with the others in the room, then the posers might create a second profile and return to that thread or chat room as a second person and be able to continue posting/chatting without being harrassed by those people that won't let them start over or move on.

Its kind of what I call the "Batman/Bruce Wayne" theory. You can be looking right at and talking to that 2nd person and never even know its that original person that you were harrassing. Hence the fresh start and being allowed to let things die. You can't do that in real life, but you can do it on the internet.

Just a pair of ideas.
