Question about Fake PicsPage 1 of 2    (1, 2)
I have a question about fake pics...does anyone know, by chance, of a website where you can check if a picture is fake or not? I seem to recall years ago there being one that had "frequently used" fake pics from scammers. Anyone know what I am talking about? I think it's a great idea to see them on a webcam...that would work, but I'm just curious.

You're putting way too much thought into what these morons who post fake pics are doing OP. If your purpose is to meet someone rather than drag out an endless series of emails, meet for a coffee or a drink and you'll know the truth soon enough, without too much time or effort involved. Certainly less time and effort than looking for another website online to verify their picture. Unless of course you are suspicious by nature and want to spend even more time online instead of in the real world.

As for the webcam idea, have you ever seen the number of threads here by women complaining about a guy suggesting that they webcam together? Again, way too much time and effort for what should be a simple process. If you click with someone initially, what's wrong with a few emails, maybe a phone conversation and then a short, non-committal meeting? I will often do the coffee meet as part of a weekend afternoon and incorporate it into other things I might have going on that day, so that if I find they have misrepresented themselves, don't show or we simply don't connect, it doesn't take up too much of my time. Its only as complicated as you make it.

Well, he is out of town and wants to see ME on cam...but I already told him there will be no funny business...LOL. I just wrote back and asked to see him on cam as well. Haven't heard back.

I know, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. But damn, if it's true I'm loving that :) I guess I am just bored and wanted to do some detective work. When I go back to work Monday I'll be too busy for this crap ;)

Unless it is blatantly obvious ( such as using a pic of a famous person ), I don't think you can tell the pics are fake until you actually met that person. Anyone could go on a website and save multiple pictures of a person. Then use those pictures on their profile.

^^^ Echo remarks above.

The easiest way to tell is most fakes literally look to good to be true. If pics look too polished and professional => Red Flag.

I also know some people take or use professional photos, or post the ever-popular "glamour shots". I'm skeptical with these people, too, because dollars to donuts they will NOT look that good in person, so beware.

Big age discrepancies are probably the easiest to flag. I mean, please, most include dead giveaways by the clothes being worn, backgrounds, and general "look" of the person. Exp: If the guy is in his late 40's and 50's and has pics of full, solid-colored hair, he's either using old pics, dies his hair, or is wearing a hairpiece...lol.

That said, there are many that actually look better than their stated age and just take lousy pics, so don't go entirely on photos alone. Hopefully there are other things in the person's profile that will determine interest and not just blind lust (my fellow men are very guilty of this).

My general rule of thumb is if the woman (I'm not interested in dating men, so being gender specific) purposely uses obviously sexy shots (bikini, boobs, come-hither looks) and has almost nothing written in her profile/no forums activity, I move on. To me she's just an attention whore-tease and as shallow as the day's long.

some people's pics are "real" but they are so out of date that they aren't really true anymore. They've changed so much that their pic is not representative of them anymore. This is usually discovered in person when you notice they've gone grey and their picture isnt, or they've put on a lot of weight, or they shaved all their hair off or something.

Mine are all within the last 6 months. And I just got me a new digi cam so I can take some more.

Btw, just read Mary's post above (Msg 17) and absolutely agree. I wouldn't totally trust every web site that claims to "expose" liars. They can and have been used by disgruntled exes or others with an ax to grind to viciously smear someone they don't like.

The best advice is using your own inherent common sense and the noggin' God gave you. If somebody looks and sounds too good to be true, they probably are.

C'est la vie - I could always just delete my profile and create a new one if it bothered me, but reality is if someone goes and judges me based on some 3rd party comment by one person on a "grudge" site, I don't think I'd want to bother with them anyways?

Absolutely, forums1. Seems some relinquish control of their own common sense and rely on others way too easily, like sheep led to slaughter. More people need to start thinking for themselves and not be so readily duped by what others say.

Btw, big cat lover here, so my condolences about you losing Hank (wonderful poem).

Question about Fake Pics

I actually like catching people in lies. It's sort of a hobby of mine. LOL. I caught some guy on here who emailed his"philosophy on life and dating". I noticed at the end of a rather lengthy monlogue that it seemed incomplete. My suspicions were right. I googled the first few lines of the repartee and found it on a website that was written by someone else.

When I called him on it, he said, "Damn, you're good!" Indeed.

^^^^ A woman on here lifted a large chunk of text from an older profile of mine (my text has been through many iterations...lol), which I just happened to see while surfing. Pure luck I caught it, really.

When I wrote her about it she immediately blocked me. Oh well, guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I'd sure like to get credit for my own thoughts.

I just recently messaged someone who only has one picture on her profile and looked like a model... I complimented her picture and she got rather defensive saying beauty is on the inside. It's ironic that I stumbled on to this blog.

Soooooo I'm thinking fake, fake fake! If it was really her,you would think she would like the compliment. At the same time she was telling guys to post GOOD pictures of ourselves. Apparantly she didn't like mine.

Women complain that guys show penis on webcam and expect women to show breasts. I do not hear complains of prooving you are who you say.

Find out a guy is 51 instead of 21 save time for me. I do not even have to leave the house. Makes it very simple. My $25 webcam (they are as little cost as $10) to save my time on 5 date since I buy it, is worth the money.

I do not care if this make me a bad person. I do not meet until I know he is the person in his picture. This rule has work well so far, is no reason to change. :)

^^^^^Also right click on photo, click on "copy image address", paste into Google search, when it comes back click on image search, this time it will come back with any matching images if finds on the Internet. Test it on any of your own PoF photos and it will find them (hopefully only) on PoF. :)

If you want to make it even simpler.. there is a browser plug in called TinEye (you can google it). It's a lot of fun when you right click on that attractive woman photo and it takes you to an escort site ;)

I have that, and it often gets 0 results when Google Image Sherlock - a plug-in for Chrome users - does find other locations for the photo(s).
