Usually if you're on the mindset of hunting the one, you won't find it... My intentions when I joined last year is hoping to establish a good connection which I caught myself a fish but then it only lasted for 8 months. Offline/online - I'm keeping myself open-minded to meet new people. You don't want to get your hopes up too.

I joined to see if there was any ladies I was compatible with, someone i could possibly spend a long time with. Been here for well over a year, met 2 ladies no success. now it;s just for the forums

Same here dude, and after a few years and only about 4 dates I am now basically here for the forums too as I NOW understand that for me it apparently isn't going to happen. But have made a few great friends along the way, so it hasn't been a total loss huh? I was hoping to meet a nice woman that was compatible with me that we could possibly have a future together with, but it just doesn't seem as though I fit the mold of what many consider desireable or worthy, so it's the forums for me.

I really only joined to meet people and date. I knew I would eventually meet someone special and have it grow into a life's grand passion - but I figured now was not the time, and this was not the venue. Boy was I wrong.

This one fellow sent me a sarcastic initial email, I volleyed and it was 'game on!'
(The good type of game... think James Garner and Mariette Hartley or Hepburn and Tracy).

A year and a half later, we're madly in love and teasing each other madly and I hang around the forums cuz I like them and some of the people here have become friends.

I know when I first joined, it was because I was living in the middle of nowhere in a small little town (pop 1500) in the Midwest. Given that there was ZERO nightlife within 50 miles of there, I thought I'd have better luck if I increased the odds and expanded the playing field. Oh, how naive I was then! A few dates there, a few dates while I lived in Virginia, and zip since I've moved back to my hometown. It is very useful when you relocate for a job; you're new in town, and it gives you a chance to be rejected (or completely ignored) by a whole new group of women. The forums, and just being a glutton for punishment occasionally, keep me coming back though.

Are you kidding me? I'd been paying MONEY to places like yahoo personals and match for the privilege of scaring the h*ll out of men, and then I found this place, where I can scare to my hearts content for FREE.
That and the
And every once in awhile I am uplifted by visiting an online street fight ,and having a forum break out. It restores my lack of faith in humanity.

The man I loved and had been living with for two years died. I'd joined a widows' site, but the widows were driving me krezzy (they'd all been married to these totally perfect guys that they were *never* going to get over, if they could help it), and someone there mentioned PoF. I tried it. I knew I wasn't ready by any means for a new relationship, and said so, but attracted a whole lot of barracudas, lol! And one very nice gentlemen who suggested I leave widow out of the description. Which I did, and a whole lot cleared. Meanwhile, I found the poetry forum, which is amazingly good. Relaxed, read a lot of poetry, and healed. Wrote some poetry, a couple of guys (didn't pan out), met a few very nice guys who are still friends, one total loser, and sixteen months ago a loverly critter who seems to want to be in my life as long as either of us breathes. I'm happy. And the forums are still great!

I was hoping to find a strange, eclectic, eccentric, playful, deeply spiritual, vivacious lady who doesn’t like to play head games, but loves romantic evenings, live theatre, cruises, traveling to warmer destinations. She should also love shopping, casinos, and fancy boutiques.

Allegedly, she’s been told that she appears much younger than her five-year old photo on POF, possesses an irreverent sense of humour, and dreams of travel, travel and more travel !!!!!

She wears Channel 19 and a strong fabric-softener aroma, combined with a heavy multi-layered make-up, and operates a small menagerie of assorted pets, including multi-colored birds and monochrome reptiles. Enjoys winery tours and in spare time, she makes her own wine. She likes cream-colored computers with a blue light on the front panel, and large motorcycles with chrome fenders and oversized mirrors. Likes dining in up-scale restaurants by candlelight, cuddling by a roaring fire, taking a walk on fresh fallen snow, watching a thunderstorms, soaking up the sun on a tropical beach, listening to all kinds of music while sipping on her half-full glass of red wine. She likes the yellow and green emoticons and the smart words, like LOL, NOT and WTF.

At this point in life, she is basically just looking for a nice guy, but would prefer an extraordinary, funny, tall, rich, and generous man with above average good looks, a full head of dark hair and a spark, who would spoil and treat her like a lady, but without giving up her independency and the life she grew accustomed to. If he’s familiar with Estee Lauder or Mary Kay, that will score extra points. She is satisfied and at peace with herself and shopping experience at her local mall, but feels something is missing. She doesn't know exactly what she is looking for, but she likes to have fun and enjoy the simple pleasures, while sipping real drinks.

The first date should involve an intimate dinner, game of shuffleboard, slow dancing, and alcohol of some sort.

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, this is a dating site.

In any event....

Initially a friend found this site and recommended it to me as I live in BFE and dating here is well, I'll be kind and just say has minimal prospects if one doesn't go to the bars. So, I joined to get back into dating and now I stay for the forums and if someone just happens along then so be it, if not..... *shrugs*

I'd gotten some really bad news and needed something to keep myself from wallowing too much into self-pity. I re-joined because I knew the forums would help to distract me.

Well, me being me, I did hope stumbling across an exception to the rule and I can honestly say that on virtual wavelengths this exception has materialised several times.

Several years on ... I am very grateful to this site for finding and having wonderful friends who do bring sunshine into my life.
My motto still is: "Never say never"

I was not into the bar, worked there too long to know not much good comes outta that.
Shy
Lonely
After I dipped my feet in...
I found the place nuts.
So...
I was here only for the forums.
Now...
To find a life long partner!
I HOPE!

I joined to better my chances. Not living in a big city sure dwindles your chances of meeting that special someone. The forums and a few friends I've met on POF is for the most part why I'm still here. Getting close to taking a break though.

What I've learned, the internet has changed some people for sure. I can't believe how many women have become somewhat stuck up, "to say it nicely," just because they put up a cleavage or sexy photo. They get hammered with emails from any bone head with a keyboard and all of the sudden they're a princess. "I don't think all are this way so don't flame me."

I'm also kind of shocked about what little common respect and courtesy I see and read. I like the forums for all the different opinions and of coarse the jocularity. I've been known to change my opinion about something after reading several opinions of others but I can also see many are just to hard headed to ever look at something a different way.

Well that's some of the negative stuff but there are still many good people out there. Just surprised the % isn't what I thought it would be.

My intentions went from trying to find someone special to friends to now just the forum. The reason being will I am not gonna say but lets just say alot of people think they gonna find that Perfect one that don't exsists. Am still looking for Friends only but I come for the forum till I get in a relationship which in my case will be no time soon.

My intentions of when I joined were to meet some nice guys and see where it goes. Well, I have met some nice guys, but I wasn't into them as they seemed to be into me. So, I took a break and regrouped but had to wonder why I attract the wrong kind. I am still here but I don't look for anything more than meeting someone and see where it goes anymore....now if it happens ..it happens, if it don't it don't ......no expectations.

I will be honest, I joined POF beacuse it's the only site I know of that is totally free and you can e-mail as many people as you want and if they e-mail you, you can actually read the messages.

I joined as moral support with a friend who got divorced, and over three years later I am still here because I love the forums. I have met a guy or two since then and made a few friends, but my intention never was to hunt anyone down to date.

I joined a while ago with the basic intent of meeting different women who weren't 'friends of friends' etc, someone outside the local gene pool.

It wasn't until quite recently that I added up the time I spent on the site with forums/profile/pics/making contact/emails etc, that I realized the time/success ratio was quite low compared to meeting people in the outside world. Henceforth I've decided to spend less time online and more in actual face to face situations. I still love the forums the best but I think that no matter how well you write your profile or how many recent images you post something is always lost in translation and you are at square one when you actually meet face to face.

I joined to find the second love of my life. Looking for lightning to strike twice in the same place (wry grin).

I have chatted with a couple of very kind fellows who I communicate with platonically. We aren't matches for each other, but we stay in touch by e-mail or POF messaging. I appreciate it, and it helps reduce the loneliness in the meantime.
