Sought: Authentic Mexican Cuisine and Good Margaritas!Page 1 of 4    (1, 2, 3, 4)
So I'm trying to find an authentic Mexican restaurant (no chains, please) in St. Louis that serves (pitchers of?) good margaritas and has authentic, reasonbly priced cuisine! I've done a little searching on Google but would prefer a good recommendation to a blind search. Any from the POF community would be greatly appreciated. If it's in the Kirkwood or Webster area, better still, but it's all about GOOD margaritas, first and foremost!

Muchos Gracias en el avance!

Try Pueblo Solis, on Hampton. I am not a margarita drinker, but the food is excellent. And From what my friends have said, the margaritas are great.
Darn, now I am hungery...wanna go?

Whatever001, OMG, THANK YOU! I am looking at their menu now and it sounds terrific! YUM! I searched and searched and did not get this place in any of my search results so would not have otherwise found it! Muchos Gracias, Senorita! I think I've found a winner based on all the reviews I'm reading on their site! Great atmosphere, too! I knew someone out there could give me a great recommendation - glad I asked!

PizzaChef - I am also looking at your recommendation and will definitely try that some time soon since it's closer to my area. I'm leaning toward Pueblo Solis though as the location is more centrally located to my dinner companion. Thanks, though - will have to check that out some time. Oh and re: authentic - not that I'm an authority on such either but I wouldn't want to pick a place and find "Cheesaritos" or "Cinammon Twisty Crisps" or some other "faux mexican dish" on their menu!

My all time favorite is in Collinsville. Ramone's. It is near 157, just south of the new Wal Mart. Another good one is Chava's in Soulard, then in Illinois, Glen Carbon by Target is LaFonda. ButI always prefer Ramones!

Tequila's is a great place the best Margaritas I've found and the food and service is awsome! Fun for a Friday Happy Hour! FYI I am a Margarita snob LOL!

Tequila's is located at Meremac Bottom Road and Lemay Ferry.

Awesome! Thanks for all the great suggestions - sounds like we need to do a POF Mexican Restaurant Tour - Cinco de Mayo, perhaps?

Not sure the name of the place but it's in Old St. Charles at the end (away from 70) of the main strip of stores. Went there about 2 yrs ago and it was great! I'm not much into Mexican spicy but the guy I was with said it was the best he'd found in St. L!

I'd go for the margarita's and the appetizers, kinda picky on the real spicy stuff..but Casa is my vote for Margaritas, I've been to a Tequila's once or twice, everything was great. I haven't eaten or had drinks at any of the other establishments mentioned above.

There's a 3 Margaritas place in Fenton (Hwy 141 and Old Hwy 141) in the strip mall next to Blockbuster.

Well, I personally am not a fan of any chain restaurants that claim to be "authentic" ...Casa Gallardo, Chi-Chis, 3 Margaritas, etc...BLAH. And if their margaritas come from an Ozark machine...BLAH.

But El Maguey across from Ronnie's Cinema/House of Rock...KICK ASS. There is also a place in the same plaza as Sidepockets and Bass Pro Shop, across from the casino....KICK ASS everything!!

I know your evening already happened, Sue-De...but since this seems to be an entire thread on Mexican....lol.

Skip, you can put me down as a maybe for Thursday evening, I work til 6pm and will drive up from there. What's the easiest way to get there?

Prolly one of the best gigs in our area for Cinco De Mayo is at the Bean House. Chock full of bikes, booze, and all sorts of booths...this one is just as much outdoors, as it is indoors. :)

I really honestly cannot speak for it's authenticity...but it was delish' and loads of fun!

Kat, I was at The Bean House a few weeks ago with another group of friends; nah
not really the cup of tea for mexican chow if you catch my drift; they had a great menu full of all other things and some mexican but not like going into the real deal venues!!

Speaking of Mexican food, Ms Kat, I won the gift certificate to Iggy's (Jefferson County); maybe one of these upcoming nights a GNO of sorts My guy doesn't partake in Mexican food.

Don't think Ramone's could hold even half of us. I still haven't found any place to beat them. Price yes, but authenticity and delicious every thing! Still run by Romone's family too. Rumor has it that he was offered a franchise many years ago... he turned it down but recommended a friend of his, it is called Casa Gallardo. That is something I was told nearly 30 years ago.

Chavas is the place in Soulard that I love. "Mr November" and I discovered it a couple of years ago when I had a half off gift certificate.

I would rather be stabbed in the eyes with knitting needles than suffer through a mariachi band. I am, however, a HUGE FAN of classic rock.

Hey Denise....Bean House musta changed it's menu...it used to be all Mexican! LOL Well, it is still THE place to be if you are into bikes, on Cinco De Mayo! But that is not everyone's cuppa tea either!

I actually despised the mariachi music as well, Sue! But then I used to go to a weekly karaoke gig at El Maguey who's K-DJ had tons of music and after a few giggles..started actually getting into it. I tell you...I can actually tolerate Spanish/Mexican karaoke over the english sh!t! LOL The twins have Hispanic ethnicity and their sperm donor's family ALL had different versions of what was "authentic" or not, so Tasha's idea of taking a friend along woulda never worked for us! LOL Skips example of Chile Relenos is a PERFECT example. Seems it is a matter of opinion between what is Relenos and what is Pablanos. LOL They vary according to red or white (cheese) sauce, pepper type, what it is stuffed with, and even the coating on the pepper. Me...I love my whole chile's stuffed with the cheese/meat mixture, deep fried and covered in white sauce. Yum!

Wow, I have no idea what you're talking about here 'cuz I am clearly NOT an expert on Mexican cuisine - I just know if I enjoy the taste or not and I am a WIMP when it comes to spicy food so hold the heavy duty recipes that burn your taste buds off, please! I'm all about the margaritas, anyway (sans mariachi bands).

Are there any Mexican restaurants in St. Louis that have classic rock bands playing during dinner?

I am a huge fan of Tabasco and Jalisco style... HOTTTT!!

OMG if I ate that on a date, my nose would be running, my eyes would be watering and I would look like Alice Cooper, with mascara running down my cheeks. I do NOT like spicy food! (pointing at myself ) WIMP!

Never thought of it that ^^ way....duh oh, me!
I like it HOT, too....OMGawd...something about the burn of a good spice, seasoning, or pepper that you just cannot beat....even if the tummy hates it later! LOL This chica uses Pepperocinis and other peppers like a staple in her kitchen...I go through jars each week. LOL

Sue...Bean House will DEFINTELY have CLASSIC ROCK for their Cinco De Mayo gig...and they used to have bands too...just check em out on the web or something, cause it has been a year or two since I have been. :O)

Anyone interested in getting a group together for this celebration, send me a private email! I won't be "available" on the 5th of May (parenthood calls) but this is on Saturday, the 2nd and looks like it could be fun!
