On my 12 string acoustic - silk and steel - gives a lovely tone.

On any other guitar I go for the heaviest gauge the store carries, and I do not care about the brand. Especially on electric guitar it gives by far the best sound.

Doesn't even matter when 99% of guitars that people play on sound like they were recently pulled out of a rat's nest - poor intonation being the cause.

I'll string my guitar up with weed-wacker line, set the intonation, and have it sound better than anyone who cares more about string gauge than instrument set-up.

GHS Boomers

I use the 10-60 gauge...

E--10
B--13
G--17
D--36
A--52
E--60

Exactly what I use. But I tune my guitar to BEADGB though. I also have another set of GHS Boomers that are from 11-70.

Wow, good question.

For awhile I was using the Gibson nickel wound strings, but they break way too easily. Pretty funny, since they were personally endorsed by Les Paul the man himself. But, as of late at Paul's age, he is only playing with the first two fingers of his left hand.

My guage & string choice vary., but mostly 11-52 or 10-46.....

GHS Boomers, Custom Lights or I ripe em right off the guitar... Nines over Tens. Adds some bottom end to your axe without having to reach for a tone knob too. These seem to hold up pretty well under extreme whammy bar use as well so I've been stringing my axes with this setup since the Floyd Rose came out.

I suppose I am the only one here that uses Fender Super Bullets.....009-.040

I learned the hard way with My Fender guitars using ball end strings. These guitars have a hybrid Fender/Floyd Rose liscensed trem system and the strings feed thru and seat deep into the trem block/bridge. If I break a string in the middle of a set at the bridge, the standard ball end sticks inside the guidehole in the bridge and I have to use a needle to pry it out.

The Bullets have a solid metal tapered "bullet" looking thing at the end of the string which is the exact shape as the guidehole.

The "bullet' falls right out if the string breaks.

I use Boomers at gauge 0.07

Egads, I tear those off like tissue paper, yikes... Must be my small, powerful grip or something... Lol... What style music are you playing?

Actually, I wish more companies would offer their strings with the bullet end. I have a Kaylor on my older ax that loads from the top, normal strings work fine and are quick to change. My Floyd Rose on my new ax is a PAIN in the BUTT. The block will lock the string to a point, but there's still some string slippage on the high E at the tail piece and the pull will eventually cause the string to fail at the ball in the block.

Yes, I'm breaking them IN the tremolo, not at the bridge. I've been studying this and a good bullet end would hold better in the Rose IMO. I just don't like Fender strings so I'll put up with the breakage for the time being.

Mostly Eric Johnson and Alan Holdsworth kind of stuff. It's easier to move fast on lighter strings, but the tone suffers mostly, but since I'm only playing for myself, I just like seeing my fingers move fast. lol.

A nice trick with a floyd is to install the strings backwards, soo all the ball ends are at the tuners. That way you will never poke your hand on the headstock again.

Boomer 009's.

Dean Markley Blue Steels.....9's or 10's I like both....If I'm playing metal, I use the 10's for the bottom end chunk...But other than that usually 9's

Nope. I have a bunch of old Ibanez Destroyer II and they sound great with 9's over 10's. I bought a new JS 1200 and my back thanks me now, but I still use the same setup because andthing lighter on the bottom doesn't feel right. I like that thunk you get out of a heavier string.

This guitar lends itself to some speed, but I set the action somewhat higher because my band is doing a lot of classic rock, so tone was more important. You can't dupicate Gilmoore without a fat sound, so the higher yet softer action with the Rose gives me the ability to get his sound. Rush and the like are no problem either.

Pickups, height, tremolo tension, etc. all seem to make a vast difference to the instrument as a whole. It's interesting to see what other people are using.
