Is Smelling Bad a Bad Sign?Page 1 of 3    (1, 2, 3)
Lately, when I go to the gym my friend who I go with tells me I smell terrible even before starting to work out. I take one shower a day, right after exercise and I go to the gym 6 days a week for an average of 1.5 hours each day.

I also consume a lot of supplements and food lately, I do not feel bad or anything, but I can't help that I smell bad and also let some rip not to get into too much detail.

My friend said I smell like "40 years in the dessert" in reference to me being Jewish, but my concern is whether internally I am decaying or something? I eat around 3200 calories/day.

Thx.

Pardon me in advance...

You need to get off your ass and starting researching. Study. And figure out what in the hell you are doing.

You are hands down one of the most clueless people Ive seen jump into weight lifting, prohormones, other supplements, cross their fingers and hope for the best.

You boast your goals without knowing how to achieve them. You tout your pro hormone use as if this is some achievement. You come in here asking if we can tell you about the long term effects of supplements you are already taking. What moron takes pro hormones without knowing the research behind it let alone its long term effects?

You now ask us about smelling badly. You actually mentioned you feel you might be decaying inside??

Jesus Christ do some research. Go see a doctor. STUDY RESEARCH what you are doing and putting into your body. You are constantly looking for shortcuts and quick tips without taking the time to sit your ass down and read something.

You are by far one of the worst cases of ridiculousness in this area Ive seen in a long time.

I do not mind holding someones hand and helping them along the way......but you reek of laziness and immaturity.

I've heard many times about people who are "eaten up"(As Southerners say) with cancer have a very bad smell.

...just sayin'.....

Have you thought it may be your clothing?

If you are wearing cotton based garments they will get the "funk" after a few months and smell fine once washed but as soon as your body hits a certain temp. the funk comes back out.

If you spend allot of time in the gym you should invest in some antimicrobial clothing.

The type of soap one cleans their clothes with plays a big part as well. This is why when I do laundry I add one cup of plain vinegar to the rinse since this removes any soap or detergent residue and leaves a clean not a vinegar smell. And some supplements like B vitamins can change a persons body odor. Which is why eating plenty of fruits and vegetables is important as they work like charcoal to remove bad smells.

Don't go to the gym so fking much, I bet your routine sucks.. And I doubt your diet is that great either.. The best results Ive ever had were on a 4 day split..

monday - shoulders/triceps
tuesday - back
thursday - chest/biceps
friday - legs, never skip legs.. NEVER, EVER .. EVER.

I find it incredible that you only have one shower a day after exercise.... I take it you then do a days work, maybe socialise in the evening and then sleep in your sweaty bed all night long before getting to that gym again..... and you wonder why you smell like '40 years in the cheesecake ...... ooops sorry think you meant desert'

Take a shower and put on some deodorant BEFORE you go to the gym. I do it routinely. My son was actually making fun of me yesterday when I came in from bike riding (getting better) yesterday, and I took a shower/changed my shirt/sports bra before going to the gym. He was like, "God mom! You're just gonna get sweaty and nasty again." I told him I like to start out fresh.

OP never said a single thing about prohormone use nor did he state any goals, so bashing him on false charges is not playing fair.

OP mentioned being Jewish. Chances are you're of Ashkenazi heritage which is pretty secular and the gene pool is not as diverse as other groups, therefore you stand a higher chance to inherit some genetic disorders that would otherwise be rare for others. You might have inherited a gene mutation causing overactive sweat glands, or lacking enzymes to process waste products, or have some sort of metabolic malfunction that doesn't interact with certain foods correctly. If your friend is the only one complaining, get another partner.

yes... lets just give him lots of excuses to use to get away from the fact that he admits to having but one shower a day... after exercising!

I gotta side with Jaqi here. It's a rare and unusual day that I only take one shower a day. It's usually two, and during hot weather (like now) more like 3-4.

Also, make sure you're washing your gym clothes EVERY DAY - or have more than one set of work out clothes. But, DO NOT wear the same clothes two days in a row without washing. The vinegar tip was good advice. I always wash my gym clothes in hot water. That helps too.

Why would someone need to shower more than that?

I take it from your lack of an intelligent response that you have no idea.

FYI: Germaphobes are obsessed with sanitation and feel compelled to clean excessively, but they're really suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I knew some people didn't shower daily, sometimes every other day to every 3 days. I personally shower usually twice a day especially in the summer.

What you eat and drink has a lot to do with it. Onions and garlic can make you stink so bad. Also coffee can make you stink. I had bad foot odor but once the caffeine was gone the smell was gone. Also soy make you stink a lot if you eat too much of it. To make the smell go away eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and less junk food and meat.

I imagine a lot of it has to do with your diet. If you consume a lot of garlic, for instance, then it will obviously return to haunt you when you start sweating. This can be said for other foods, or combinations of foods. Some supplements can cause similar problems. Try an "elimination" diet until you've ruled that possibility out, or simply consider being more liberal with the deordorant.

Surprisingly, I can get by without showering for days before the funk actually becomes noticeable. Uh, not that I abstain from showering frequently, or anything...
