Looks like all the stalking worked, LOL. It will be interesting to see if he takes this seriously. Any bets on who his first opponent will be? A nominal striker along the lines of a Kimbo, CroCop, or Gilbert Yvel? Or do you think they will simply throw him to the wolves with a serious grappler like Mir, Struve, or Big Country?

I figure they're match him up with a fellow non-grappling striker ala Kimbo or someone else lame. I'm wondering what camp he'll go to. Whatever the case, he better work on his grappling or he won't last long.

I am a boxing fan, but I bet you MMA guys are tired of washed up athletes coming to your sport. They will give tomato can.

LOL, I think I know what you mean. But Toney has what are probably the most elite pure striking skills to enter the UFC, so his being there - washed up in boxing as he is - can serve to raise the bar, as it is in MMA. I also think this can help MMA in the payout scheme. If fighters can start getting something closer to boxing money, this will bring more elite athletes in from other sports.

As far as his getting a can, I think it depends on what message the UFC wants to send. Do they milk it for money (give him a can), or do they send him packing quickly by throwing him in there with a top MMA fighter.

Dana is a big boxing fan, so I see him giving Toney at least 1 can to get $$$, then probably letting him have at it with a legit MMA threat.

Let me ask you this, do you think we will live to see a fighter who can hold a Boxing belt and a MMA belt at the same time? That would be awesome if some guy will achieve that.

That's a good question. The styles are so different, that on the face of it, I would say probably not. Boxers are specialists at what they do, and MMA doesn't require the same amount of specialization, since they can simply use another tactic (ie; clinch or submissions) entirely if they get outclassed in striking.

But........it's not impossible, and as kids are starting from scratch in MMA, as opposed to coming into it from other disciplines, they could conceivably have the time and energy to develop champion-level skills in both.
