Telus or ShawPage 1 of 2    (1, 2)
Has anyone tried both Shaw and Telus digital or HD TV service, or had trouble with either? I'm thinking of getting a plasma TV, and I'm wondering if the only difference between the two is price and available channels.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to have to do some more research. After talking to the guy in Best Buy this morning I'm now not sure if I should buy a plasma or and LED TV. So now I'm confused about everything

You forgot Global HD Channel 199. It is free as well.

Telus is fairly new so there are many glitches that a few friends of mine are having with it as well as the weird channel numbers like with Bell, and you have to sign a contract like you would with a cell phone. With Shaw no contract and a fairly competitive price. I bought my HD receiver for 199 at christmas and then bought a 1TB PVR add on for 149. I believe the receiver that you can add the PVR on to is now 249 but it is not Motorolla it is Pace.

I switched last Oct form Shaw to a telus bundle,

I have telus satalite., It took me a week or tow to work out were everything is but I would recommend it, saved me about 60.00 a month when i combined it all, phone, internet, and the TV.

All my TV's are HD and I like it, i do miss the US channels for the super bowl commercials.

Do it.

As far as a tv it depends on the size, if it is 50" range or larger I would go plasma, I have both and the plasma is nicer.

As far as cable I went with shaw because I can get HD on both tv's, if you use telus you can only use on HD box ...... once I found that out I stopped looking into switching.

Hope this helps

Telus - not so hot and doesn't work with dual tuners (PIP)
Shaw - Basic cable works with PIP, I dont know if HD is different.
You can consider using your phone & IN to Shaw and might save with the bundle.

Apparently Telus will soon be upgrading their HD service to a completely different technology because their current one is so far behind their competitions' and the industry standard; in fact it's a hash.

Okay, so the general response seems to be to use Shaw. Thanks for the responses. A guy in Futurs Shop actually explained to me that Telus gets their signal from Bell, but then the condense it down, and that's what causes the issues (that's the simple explanation). Still trying to decide on either plasma or LED. I've looked at some plasmas in store that look a little fuzzy to me, then others look just fine. Could this just be the in store lighting?

I guess size isn't always the key but the quality.

I've been saying that for years,,,,but no one believes me.Well,,,,,some of them do,,,,but they had to do a test run or two to gain that belief.

well i would buy a |Led TV over a Plasma any day . depending on where you live if you r sure the power is not going to go out because if you have a plasma and the power goes out and it's winter your plasma will freeze and crack up . also I have shaw and i won't go to telus because they can change there price any time they want without telling you. and with shaw you can bundle everything and get a better deal.

Correct me if I am wrong but you are only able to have 1 HD pvr with telus right?

That is the biggest reason I did try them because I use 2 HD pvrs in my home.
