For band that have more than one guitarists, which duo do you think complimented each other the best (or three like in Lynyrd Skynyrd)? I personally would say Glenn Tipton and KK Downing of Judas Priest.

I like Kirk Hammett's screaming solos with James Hetfield's super fast chugging rhythm in Metallica. I also thought Izzy and Slash in Guns and Roses were awesome too.

Brian Robertson & Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy. Dave Murray & Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden. Oops, had to edit....Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman from Megadeth. All three pairs are (or were) ace duelists!

Hard to top Downing and Tipton - notably their exchange in the live version of " Sinner " from " Unleashed in the East " !

^^^^nice

I do love the old bluesy stuff but I still think the best duos are found in metal. And as long as I'm on metal I should probably give on honorable mention to Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman of Slayer.

Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck played together in the Yardbirds for a while. Pretty tough duo to beat as well.

Paul Waggoner and Dustie Waring of BTBAM
James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett of Metallica
I have a million more to say, but I'll stick with these two.

As for the OP, I totally agree. Jason Becker and Marty Friedman were dynamite when they played together. I also think Steve Vai is excellent when he played with Frank Zappa. The two had a ton of chemistry.

Dam thats a hard one . Tipton and Downing are very good. So is Freidman ( with either Mustaine or Becker). Hammitt and Hetfield are very good too ( But Having met them with Lars I was upset). But having met them both on tour ( Demartini and Cavazo) when they were was very good and underrated. You could also say the same with Skynyrd too ( Metlocke, Rossington, and Thomasson) was very underrated. But for players Doug Aldrich or Jake E. Lee are very overlooked.

I liked Skynyrd better with Allen Collins (after all, he wrote the solo in Free Bird). Also though Metlocke was better in Blackfoot than Skynyrd.

Yeah, I would say you are right on the money with that one.....KK Downing and Glen Tipton...that album ROCKED. The live versions of those songs sounded better than the studio recorded. Some other great duos would be Rudolf Schenker and Uli Roth, the guys from Iron Maiden, and the guys from Night Ranger; Brad Gillis and the other guy, can't remember his name. But the two greatest of all time is HENDRIX and VAN HALEN!!!!!!

Stanley and Frehley from Kiss.
Hagar and Pihl from Hagar's early solo days.
Jabs and Schenker from Scorpions.
Rossi and Parfitt from Quo.
Gorham and Robertson from Thin Lizzy.
