It would be no fun for me to pick the Canucks, so I'll pick a couple of off beat teams. I say the Kings beat the Habs in seven. The Kings have two of the best defencemen in the league - pretty strong goaltending and their forwards are getting better. The Habs lost in overtime of game seven to the eventual Cup winners this year.

But the Leafs will still be golfing when the playoffs start.

For the West:
I think that San Jose, Detroit, Vancouver, Los Angles will be the top teams. Nashville will be strong.

For the East:
The Caps,Pens, Montreal, Buf, Bost, Tampa Bay, and Phili will be the front runners.

The 8th playoff spot will be up for grabs. Probably NYR. Winnipeg has a tough road schedule with plenty of travel. Carolina lost Eric Cole and added dead weight. Kovi and Brodeur cannot carry NJ, Ottawa and Leaves will struggle, the NYI will start strong due to the youth moment but will choke w/poor goaltending and inexperience. Forget about Florida but I love Kevin Dineen as Coach. Maybe they will be competitve for 2 weeks this season.

Being a die hard Canuckle head. I am going to say my Canucks again.

I think sleeper's will be Buffalo, Carolina, Colorado. Depending on who makes the team after camp and if Nabokov signs, Ny Islanders will make the playoffs.

I know. They lost to the eventual Cup winners two years ago, and then lost in 7 games in the Final last year. Boy, they are terrible. Especially when compared to the Leafs. Their playoff record is without a single loss now for the last several years. And, as you pointed out, they were only 16 points out of a playoff spot last year. That's so close.

Hey! The guy is only a few years younger than me. We all loved Bobby Orr - for some it became a life long love of the Bruins. I'm a Habs fan because I was teenager when the Flying Frenchmen dominated the league.

You haven't had Burke there long enough if you still like him. It's all about his ego.

Years ago the Canucks had the most exciting player in the league - Pavel Bure. They negotiated a contract, yet when Bure went to sign, it was in Canadian dollars (the league standard was always American dollars and the Canadian dollar was sitting at about $0.65). Bure was choked and refused to play for the Canucks again. So, Burke had this guy who could fill seats anywhere that he needed to trade. It took over a year with Pavel sitting out and all he got was one halfway decent defenceman and a bunch of detritus. Personally, I'm convinced that Burke wanted to punish Bure and was determined to send him to the worst team possible - and to Hell with what was best for the Canucks.

Burke is the most over rated guy in hockey. He walked in and took the credit in Anaheim for a team he didn't build.

Well, I don't think Toronto will pull off making the playoffs. In the East, I'd say that they will beat NYI, WIN & FLOR and that's it unless some of these teams suffer massive injuries.

well, if you think Edmonton will win, why not bet on them? You could make a killing on the VEGAS odds. They almost won as a #8 seed in 2006.

Last year,at this time, I would put all my money on Vancouver. I'd do it again. Heck, a different team has been winning each year.

My final four are Sharks and Wings in the west, Flyers and Sabres in the east.

Ice you really want to go down this road? You living in Toronto and being a Bruins fan should no the actual reason he was traded were business reasons plain and simple. The Bruins could not afford to keep him with their roster they had at the time and they felt trading him ( instead of others ) would net them the best gain. Deciding who came ahead on this trade is pointless as of this point and would just be speculative ( although I personally hated the trade as a leaf fan) . Thanks to the Bruins on the Kaberle trade , it was agreat deal for the leafs and could be argued either way for the Bruins.

I disagree and could argue with Ice on his opinion on every leaf player that he gave although for the main part I agree with his appraisal of Komisarek to this point.

As Ice says Kabby was a nice guy , having chatted with him a few times myself as well as a few leafs and ex leafs ( living by their practise rink and spending many an hour inside had its perks) . Hockey players for the most part are very down to earth people and are usually more then happy to share a story.

The bruins will probably have a hard time this year and might be on the bubble themselves making the playoffs. Losing players , having to be measured against every game ( from winning the cup), shorter offseason, injuries and probably having sub par performances from a few players will take its toll .

I am a true Leaf fan and my heart is saying they will finish in 8th and my head 10th in the conference. Like a lot of teams they have a shot at the playoffs and there are a lot of factors that will come into play to determine that .

I for one can not wait for the season to start . The puck to drop, hear the roar of the crowd, the sound of the hits, hear about the hockey rumours, speculate on line combo's and to lace up my skates and play some shinny and hear those words " GO LEAFS GO"

P.S. as long as the Sens do not win the cup it is all good lol

Prepare for the Apocalypse folks....because The Oilers will make the play-offs for sure this year!! Sooooooooooooo happy to see Smith back in the orange and blue, can't wait to see him cuttin' up the ice!

and I do agree with you on one thing, I cant wait for the season to start and Wade RIP

First of all Iceman --in that statement there are two thing that you are in agreement with. You are in he financial field correct? lol

I don't agree with you about Thomas, to me he has nothing to prove he just had one bad year due to injuries and had awesome years before and after and although I do agree Rask is good ( thanks again to the leafs giving him to you) I hope he has learned to deal with his little attitude issue in relation to his teammates.

Kabby is the only Leaf player you liked because you had a chance to know him , most of them are good guys.
The Bruins need to replace the intangibles of Mark recchi , get as much luck as they did last year, avoid long term injuries, avoid slumps by key players, make some key trades and hope the new additions and Segin and other prospects do well . If a few of those things don't happen they mind find themselves in 8th or lower in the conference.

As for the Oilers making the playoffs...good luck they will need a lot of it to get close to the playoffs let alone actually make it. They are too young, too inexperienced but should be a force in a couple of years.

I have a Leaf jersey if you need it but to be honest it isn't really fair the odds are the Oilers won't make the playoffs and will more then likely get another top 10 or even top 5 pick in next years draft . I think if the Oil (by some miracle) do make it Iceman should also get a bumper sticker for his car saying Go leafs Go and leave it on all year . lol

Ok here is a fair bet -- you have to have a go leafs go sticker on your car if the leafs make the playoffs --and keep it on until they are out . I have to put a Bruins sticker on if your Bruins make the finals --and I will keep it on till the end of July if they do.

I'm not concerned with odds. I always side with the underdogs anyways and I believe in miracles :)

I guess it's only fair to wager the flames jersey against your leafs jersey as my two teams are Edmonton and whomever is playing Calgary. I have utter faith in my boys and won't have to mar my body with sacrilegious design....lol
