Any new real rock n roll?Page 1 of 1
Ok so i'm looking for new music. Something with some heavy, hard guitars and great vocals. I can do lite rhythem too, and I love the drums. I'm just not really into alternative and punk so much. Some of my favorite bands are led zepellin, doors, allman brothers, bad company, steve miller, thrice, sublime, slightly stoopid, staind. I kind of started to listen zack brown a little bit, and i do like most of southern rock. I like the way old linkin park plays but the lyrics kind of suck. Anyone have anything for me?

If you like Slightly Stoopid and Sublime and Linkin park you should like 311...after all Linkin Park was kind of a shitty 311 clone back in the day. Maybe even The Urge. Even tho neither band is new.

Thrice is one of my all time favorites. It hurt me to see them go.

Try some old Incubus(pre-sellout era)

The Dear Hunter is good stuff.

Derek Trucks Band - Duane Allman reincarnated, the guy is one of the best young guitarists of the modern day, saw him playing with Clapton a few years back and he blew me away, too bad he was getting drowned out by that hack of a guitarist known as Doyle Bramhall II cause the sound guys couldn't get his amp figured out for half the gig.

John Mayer - When he isn't doing his pop gig, he is a slick bluesman who can really play. He doesn't have the grit of SRV, but he has the chops of a guy like Clapton.

The Black Keys - Never really started listening to them until they started gaining popularity north of the border, but now I know what I was missing with these guys. For a duo, they write some great tunes. Dan Auerbach is a great guitarist with a lot of that retro vibe and tone. Attack and Release, Brothers and El Camino are awesome albums.

The Sheepdogs are a poor man's rip off of The Black Keys in my opinion, if you listen to their single The Way It Is from their debut album, the song was produced by Auerbach, it sounds way too much like something Dan wrote himself and had someone else sing. Same vibe and everything.

Arcade Fire - There is a reason why the won a Grammy for Album of the Year with The Suburbs, which is a fantastic spin on a pop rock/indie style with a progressive rock style theme, and it's an album people can relate too as well. They are a bit mellow for some, but they are a good band musically.

Mumford & Sons - By far and away one of the great new bands to come out of the UK in recent years, Marcus Mumford's vocals remind me of the gritty style that Dave Matthews uses on albums like Some Devil, while the band is folk based in both style and instrumentation with double bass, acoustic piano, banjo and acoustic guitar as the primary orientation of the band's touring setup.

Muse - While they aren't new, their albums run a myriad of different themes and styles, everything from hard rock to rock ballads and Queen influenced rock opuses. They aren't consistent with their writing, but their first few records are far and away some of the best stuff to come out of the late 90's and early 2000's.

There's a few good mentions already with arcade fire and muse, although they're both a touch on the light side. Some people's definition of heavy, hard guitars is hilarious. Clearly they are panty wearers. I'd recommend;

- mastodon
- high on fire
- baroness
- the new Corrosion of Conformity

All are kind of based on your expressed desire for southern flavoured rock. These bands channel groove, harmony, disharmony, and Sabbath-esque guitar tones that just breathe air and fire!
