Speaker advice please :-)Page 1 of 1
Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro and would love some speaker advice.

I use my mac and at home (wifi) and at the gym where there is no wifi (I play dvds to workout with when one of the dance rooms are free).
At home I have to move the mac from room to room to hear the music or movie and in the dance rooms the sound is not loud enough to keep my attention.

1) Please would you recommend a wifi speaker.
2) Is there a good speaker I can use at the gym (plug in)
3) Is there a speaker that has both options.

Thank you

Possible solution... how about a bluetooth adapter (can be had for as low as a few dollars up to a good one about 20 dollars on Amazon) and a set of bluetooth headphones. I have a set of bluetooth stereo head phones that are just freeking awesome! works with my phone, tablet and any of my laptops or desktops, Mine have a built in mic for skype calls or phone calls and such... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0046SLA4M/ref=pe_175190_21431760_3p_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

and just about any bluetooth dongle (adapter) will work with them... they sound excellent.

BlueTooth needs to be a CLASS 1 type to be able to transmit up to 100m! Most devices are Class 2 which transmits up to 10m. BIG DIFFERENCE. So make sure you check what type you're getting. I am willing to bet the things you purchase will be Class 2 or even lower, Class 3 (which is pretty much useless). Read up on BlueTooth via Wikipedia if you are bored before bed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth

Anyhow, Monoprice.com has BlueTooth 4.0 adapters for $8.10. I have bought LOTS from Monoprice and their products are really good and they have a no questions asked customer service policy. If it doesn't work for you, then they'll take it back.

Read the reviews on the page below and make the decision for yourself...to me, it's a no brainer. BT 4.0 big strength is low power draw fyi.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10308&cs_id=1030801&p_id=9386&seq=1&format=2

Not only that, you can get a BlueTooth transmitter (Class 2) to broadcast the music to your home stereo or a BlueTooth speaker. Transmitter: $19.47

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10827&cs_id=1082704&p_id=7364&seq=1&format=2

They also carry BlueTooth speakers, here's one that's 10W for $47.25 http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10823&cs_id=1082705&p_id=9953&seq=1&format=2 They also have more types too depending on your needs...

But for me personally, I'd plug in a BlueTooth transmitter into your home stereo system to get hi-fi amplified sound.

Guys without getting overly geeky here she was looking for a solution to her problem... if she can't hear a stereo from 30 feet away to her liking, I really don't think BT is gonna help her if she gets bogged down in all the tech jargon and details..... any reasonable priced BT headset and dongle will do what she wants.. she is not trying to run around a 1/4 mile track :)
