A historically rich park acquired in 1948 and named after Count Odet Philippe, who introduced citrus culture to Florida.
The existing park, was part of the original Philippe plantation from which several citrus trees still remain. An Indian mound listed in the National Register of Historic Landmarks as the Safety Harbor Site is also located within the park.
Much of the 122-acre park is shaded by large oaks and other hardwood trees. The park offers picnicking, a view of Old Tampa Bay along 1 mile of shoreline, a boat launching facility, fishing, and play areas

It's that time again, the picnic seems to get bigger and better every year. I will be there to D.J. for you so bring your dancing shoes. This year I will bring a Badminton and Volleyball set , and they have horseshoe pits there so if anyone has horseshoes and would like to bring them that would be great or any other games you want to bring. As for food I have already got the plates, spoons and forks salt and pepper mustard and ketchup and of course the hot dogs what's a picnic with out hotdogs. And I also have bake beans and deviled eggs. Hope to see everyone out there . Wayne aka midlifeman

Hurray...POF fixed the posting of comments. Now, if you would like to list things you plan on bringing, it will help others to decide what to bring. I will be bringing some charcoal but could use more as we ran out last year.

Lets celebrate St Pattys day (1 day early) by showing our green!!! We had such a terrific turnout last year and I anticipate this event being equally as good. Come out and make new friends, meet up with those you may have lost contact with and perhaps, meet your special match.

This is a great park to picnic at and I have chosen the same site each time due to its location within the park. You won't need to search us out because as you drive into the park, we are the first picnic site you see. I am hoping to have a least a sign or two up just in case!!

Marco, if you can remember the sign, FANTASTIC!! I will still try to do one also to either add to yours or just in case. Either way though, you can't really miss the picnic site as it is the very first one when entering the park. I am going to see about finding a corn hole or bean bag toss game to bring. Really looking forward to seeing everyone again and making some new friends!!

Been receiving private messages regarding attendance for the picnic. Haven't sent out the mass email invitation yet so even now, it looks like we will have a great turn out once again.

Although there is no alcohol allowed in the park, it is a terrific atmosphere to get to know someone you just met, dance a little, chat and be with a fantastic group of people.

Kenny!!! Really hope you are able to attend again this year. Haven't seen you since last one. Far too long!!!

After the mass email went out, the sign ups just started climbing quickly. From 27 to 89 as of this moment. As in the past, I see many new faces signed up. If you are new and scared to attend these things on your own, please don't be. There will be so many great people attending who will be happy to introduce you around and help you to have a good time. My very first POF event was a picnic in this very park and the people I met then, have continued to be friends. When you come, just let me know you are new and if you are wishing to have introductions. We want everyone to feel comfortable and have a GREAT time!!

Wow, 105 signed up so far and still weeks to go before the fun begins!!! Lenny, will be so great to see you again. Try to see if Slaffa will attend. If I get the opportunity, I will message him.

Hoping for great weather for this day. The shelter is very large so even if there are a few sprinkles, we will be fine. If it is warm, there is a great breeze that comes across from the water and if it is chilly.....well, we just dance more to warm up lol

^^Absolutely. I'll contact Slaffa & try to urge. Tho he's self-motivated & has own schedule (also a dedicated loyal public servant). Bet this grows beyond 125 sign-ups. As long as everyone has safe fun, it's all good. Plenty of parking & trails, folks!

Kenny, for some reason, people are having a difficult time posting their replys on this thread. As people tell me what they will be bringing, I will put it into the body of the thread itself.

Wow, good numbers for the sign ins. We always have good attendance to this event and so happy I could host again as I had so many continuing to ask when the next one would be lol

I'm planning on bringing my ambrosia. It usually goes over pretty well at a picnic!! Easy to make but it can be a challenge to deliver it on a motorcycle, but I'll figure something out.

Thanks guys, I will add it to the list. 119 sign ups as I look this morning, but as we know, people who don't sign up will show up, people will bring friends and some heard about the picnic who are no longer showing on POF. I am beginning to get more and more excited as the days draw nearer. So happy to see everyone!!!

Thank you Kenny, but as you know, it is those who attend and have a great time who really make an event successful. You are one of the reasons for that. We have always been fortunate to have so many terrific people who attend, help to make others feel comfortable and give me a hand from time to time so I can also dance and eat.
Wayne has been playing tunes for us for each of these picnics and each year, we get more and more up dancing. He really works hard at downloading all the most requested tunes to play for us and I am thankful to have him as a co-host again this go round!!

Hi Diane...Me thinks I can make it to the picnic. I've been working a lot of overtime the last few months but things are starting to slow down. I might bring my kayak and do some early morning paddling. looking forward to seeing every one. Lenny too.

134 sign ups - Kenny...can always use help. We will need someone to grill the hotdogs and other things. Last year a very nice man volunteered for that. We always need someone to help introduce others, take pics and of course.......I need someone to dance with!!!

Swingdancer, glad 2 know we're still vertical, lol---Ur line. Di, 2 early 4 me 2 add 2 menu list, w/all that's on my plate here & next few wks (pun not intended). Last year's casserole was well-consumed. Probably will be something simpler,
not taking hours 2 make or requiring refrigeration or heating. I just promise it won't be the "12th potato or macaroni salad"---I'll come up w/something palatable, tho, as an ex-chef for the Hilton & an extensive recipe library.

My PSA for the week: Folks, don't shy away from the huge sign-up numbers. There is so much land, trails, amenities & waterfront plus Phillipe's mound itself ( a decent minor workout up/down/up /down again, if anyone needs it). Also, the men could just line up, take a number & dance w/the host--tho Wayne might have 2 do a little miking in addition 2 his adroit DJ skills. Just adding my $20-worth. Jim, bring bring an extra companion 4 my friend, lol.
